:smt039 Hi there kat. Yes i do, I think its blackmores, it's just one that states for pregnant women, I haven't eaten meat for the whole pg (unusual for me!!) as has made me  everytime. figure it can't hurt, and want to know that little one is getting all that important iron, folic acid, and calcium. I have taken a pg vitamen with all my pg's, but never take one any other time?
I started taking Elevit about 6 months before munchkin was conceived & am still taking it now. It's supposed to be good for both pregnancy & breastfeeding.
I never took any. I only did the 3 months of folate etc and iron tablets.
Love
Hi Kat
I've been taking blackmores pregnancy multi-vitamin since I found out I was pregnant.I also took folic acid for the first couple of months but have stopped taking folic now.
I started taking the Blackmores Folate after my last loss, not knowing I was already preg again, I try to remember to take it every day, but I am not very good at that! So I probably remember afew times a week!!!
But I didn't take anything with DD!
I also take the Blackmores pr tablet each day (except if I have an "Up and Go" as they have folate and vitamen A both of which are necessary in small amounts but can be harmfull if you have too much) I haven't met my antenatal midwife yet, this happens at 10 weeks, so I intend to ask then if I should continue what I'm doing or take anything else. I'm not huge on certain vegetables so I figure the tablet is a good supplement.
I'm taking the Blackmores Pregnancy and Breastfeeding Formula - hardly had a rest from it in the last 3 years between pregnancy and breastfeeding lol!!
I'm taking the Blackmores Pregnancy and Breastfeeding formula too. I find that if I forget to take it for a few days I get really tired - so the iron must be helping. Up to 14 weeks I was also taking additional folate and iron (Fefol capsules).
Thanks for the replys everyone, I bought some of the Blackmores Vitamins yesterday and just wanted to make sure it was safe to take.
Cheers
Kat :)
I alternated between Elevit & Blackmores PG throughout PG & breastfeeding... what ever was on special :)
I took Blackmores from when I found out I was PG last time, did try the Herron brand, but found I felt more washed out on that, so switched back.
This time around I've been taking Nature's way brand since January 1st, because I found 5 bottles at coles for $2.10 each! It has much the same as the blackmores, but also has ginger in it to prevent m/s. I saved around $16 a bottle, and they weren't out of date or anything, just discontinued. The Pluravit PG was the same price, but there were no bottles on the shelf, but it didn't say discontinued line. Has anyone else tried/seen the Pluravit brand?
I take the Elevit.
Hayseed
I take Blackmores multivitamin for pregnant women- very good was taking centrium until i found out it had too much vitamin A in it was can cause birth defects.

Hi,
I take the blackmores one when I can remember. I try and take it everyday but somedays I forget. I pray this baby is healthy anyway and that the supplements are just that.
My pregnancy was a suprise one, so I didn't take the folate for the 3 months before hand, but as soon as I found out I started taking the folate. I may have missed a few days but overall I have taken it.
:D
I take Elevit, but its out of stock at every chemist I've been to in Mlebourne lately. I finally found one that did have some & bought 5 months supply.
Blackmores is suppoed to be very good, and has fish oils too! Elevit doesn't have them, so I take flaxseed oil too.
I too found some natures way cheap. Wasn't pg, but still BF.
Yep I've been taking PG/BF multivitamens for 2 yrs non stop, so has become a habit, and don't forget very much. I put them with the glasses, so when I get a glass out to have a drink I see them!! :D
I have been taking the Blackmores Preg and BreastFeeding Formula too and was wondering if people taking this have been having one or TWO tablets a day ---- or just whenever you remember?
KIM
Kim - I take two tablets at the one time, it says to take two in order to get your RDI of each supplement. I am also taking a separate iron tablet (combined with vitamin C to assist with absorption) because I'm vegetarian. Three tablets a day - I feel like a junkie.
The Blackmores does have fish oil in it, so it was a conscious decision on my behalf to start taking it and taking in the fish. About two days after I made the decision, a study was released and published in the paper about how important omega fatty acids are to the development of foetal and neonatal neural components, so I figured it was a sign!
I was taking Blackmores Pregnancy and B/F forumla, am now on Herron brand as it is cheaper usually.
I was also taking the Purlavit one, it cost me $2.99 for 60 tablets at Priceline but they were discontinued a few months back.
Will continue to take Herron for as long as I am breastfeeding for.
I always take two tablets. The bottle recommends 2. I must say though, they're horse pills, and I usually dry retch with at least one of them :feelsick: Oh well the things we do for our little darlins hey!!!
I tried the blackmore one first but seem to make m/s worse, then Elivit which as a little better, when ran out of elevit went to buy it again but pharmacy had run out so started taking fabfol and i really glad i did because i have felt much better since then no m/s and more energy and told the OB that and he said that alot of other women he had seen were also reporting the same thing.
also if you do take vitiamins and you feel nauseous, i found that if i took them at night i didnt feel as sick
So far I haven't had too much m/s instead I get n/s at the end of the day I 'm my worse. I don't feel sick after taking the tablet, is just trying to swallow it that I have trouble with. But good idea I might try a diff brand and c if that helps!!
If you can find Nature's Way, (it's been discontinued too) that has ginger in it to help with m/s. I didn't really think it was that much different, untill I didn't take my morning one yesterday. I felt so sick I could barely eat to have the next one (so when I did, I cheated and had both at once).
I normally have one after breakfast/lunch (depending what time I get up lol) and one after dinner, because it says to take one twice a day with meals.
I took Elevit through my pg... the only downside is how expensive it is (for someone that wasn't working that is, LOL)!!!
my pregnancy was a complete surprise so i wasn't taking anything prior to conceiving.. i bought elevit and i found that it made me feel really queasy and nauseous, like it was forcing m/s onto me! so i stopped that and now just blackmores folate.. when i remember to..
[-o< ing for a healthy baby..
I'm taking Elevit - I started taking it about 6 months while I was TTC, but then couldn't be bothered after a while, as I kind of stopped thinking so much of TTC, so I wasn't taking them when I actually conceived, but have been taking them ever since I found out.
I still forget every now and then though...
Bertie
I take the Blackmores preg and b/f one, Omega 3 and have just been put on iron tablets as I don't eat a lot of red meat.
Megan
i am gonna start taking them again over the next few weeks to get my milk supply all vitamined up, i think i took blackmores early in pg.
Blackmores Pregnancy & Breastfeeding Formula.... another fan here
I am on Elevit one day and then Omega3 the next.
I was taking Natural Nutrition (same dosages as Blackmores), but it doesn't have enough iron for me, so I have to now take iron suppliments.
In fact I was quite shocked at how low the iron levels are in most pg multi's. Wish I knew that earlier, no one spoke to me about what I was taking until my levels started to get low. I think I will mention that to the midwifes at my next appointment.
I agree with Hayseed, take elevit, it has everything u need. O:)
