Waters Breaking?
I thought I'd seen some stuff about this in here somewhere before but of course, now I can't find it...
Anyway, this morning as I rolled over in bed I felt a small gush of clear fluid (sorry if TMI but I'm guessing a tablespoon full or so) and jumped out of bed. I had a couple more tiny dribbles but so far (half an hour later) nothing else...
When your waters break, is it always a big gush and very obvious or could this be part of it!? I have no clue and can't find anything on the net yet...
-
This explains all about waters breaking here. If it is your waters, it could still take some time for contractions to establish, so stay home as long as you can negotiate as labours tend to slow or stall in hospital with the change of environment, and tend to happen quicker at home. The article will explain more, but sounds like it could be it :) Sometimes women go into hospital early perhaps subconciously thinking the baby will be born quicker but it's often the opposite, unless you get pressure for augmentation (speeding up labour with a drip) as you have been there a while. They usually offer 24-48hours with your water broken due to an increased infection risk.
-
Sherie, if it is the start of it, good luck and I know you will do brilliantly. Can't wait to see you post in birth announcements...
-
Thanks Kelly! Wow, it does sound like it could be it!!
I'm still searching the net and have found a few other bits that sound like me too...still says it could be days away for labour though...
Thanks Sherie! I'll be sure to let everyone know when I'm out of hospital! :) Gosh, it's exciting to think that this could be the start of it!!!! :) :) :)
-
I know, it is very exciting, but try not to get upset if it takes a while to get going, which will be hard I know, but it will happen.
Now I can't wait to have our meet so I can see him LOL.

My waters broke with a pop a gush & then continue as a slow trickle for a day & a half, I started panicking when I was into my secoind day, no sleep (for contractions) but they werent really strong & seemed to come & go over the courrse of the day & I was exhausted, so try to rest now as you do need lot's of energy when in hospital.
I ended up being induced (I went in to hospital too early) as long as fluid is clear & not green (which mine started to become) then all is well to stay at home as long as labour is truly established!!!
Woo hoo
-
Thanks Kate! :)
Thanks Tracey! I will try and rest as much as possible today...might be a good day to watch re-runs of Friends all day... ;)
-
sherie, good luck!! have a wonderful birth:hug:
-
Sherie, if you can go for a gentle walk - will help that baby get pressure going on the cervix :) Don't overdo it, but walking is great, and even some stairs if you have some. Helps the pelvis move in directions to help the baby get into a good pozzie :)
-
Thanks Beastie! :)
Thanks Kelly! I might try walking... No stairs anywhere near me though.
I'm having strong period like cramps every 5 - 8 minutes at the moment...not overly painful but enough to know it's definitely there...I'm hoping to go for a nap and see if I can sleep through a bit of it. And I've got a bit of lower back pain too... It all sounds like part of it! Woah! ;)
-
sherie, take a bath... if your pain is strengthen.... pack your bag :D :crossfingers:
-
Yeah, I walked more the day I was in labour with Indah than I ever have & I walked up the stairs at the hospital when we arrived too, the midwives were yelling out that there was a lift & I glared at them...
I mean once your finally nearing the end, the last thing you want is to take the easy way out & have the labour stop!!
Gooooood Luck!!!!
-
YAY sounds great Sherie - usually contractions do start fairly quickly but not all the time, you are a lucky one ;) Definitely get walking and help move things along so you wont be pushed for a drip :) Once they are about 1&1/2 mins long about about 3 mins apart, they are the good stuff ;) A bath can slow things down and make you sleepy - so I think best to keep active at this stage. If you want to use water, jump in the shower :)
-
Wow its finally all happening!! Goodluck hun!!
-
Kelly my contractions were 3 mins apart with Indah right from the beginning (7am) but didnt get stronger, til about 8pm that night!
It's all so exciting!!!!
-
The length of them is important tho, time between is good but you really want long, opening contrax. My last birth mum called me was 3mins apart, went to birth centre 1.30pm babe born 2.04.
-
Ooooooh, so can contractions actually not be painful at the start?! I know these 'cramps' or 'contractions' are getting stronger (so much so that I have to stop what I'm doing now). I thought that everywhere I've read it has said 'you'll definitely know by the pain when you're in labour'...
Hehe, I have so much I want to do today but I don't think I'm going to get much done after all. ;)
-
Yep thats right! Try and keep it normal though, do your normal routine and distract yourself, time will fly that way! Don't wait for it to happen!!!!
-
Yeah I'm trying my best...hehe... It's hard to concentrate though. ;) Gosh, it's bizarre to think today, tomorrow or maybe even the next day our little boy will be born!
-
OOOh I am gonna be thinking about you birthing all day now!!! I am sending you happy, placid nice comfy, labour vibes!!!
I know mine started as a cramp, by lunch time I was all revved up & walked from 12:30 til about 5pm, just everytime I stopped they started to dull & I was so over being preg (1 week over) so just forced Mum to walk with me again...
So try to keep busy..... to take your mind off them... a bit anyways!
-
Hehe, thanks Tracey! :) Well, if I suddenly disappear from BB for a few days you'll know our little fella has arrived. ;)
I'm going to have to try that walking thing...after I get a few jobs done around the house (finish packing my bag is one of them). :)
-
Wow, me too Kate! It's so good to hear how it happened for others...gives me an idea how different they all are but also what I could expect. :) All very exciting!!
Although, I am starting to worry that the actual contractions are REALLY REALLY REALLY going to hurt if these cramps hurt like this. ;)
-
OH Sherie, good luck hun. I went for a good walk around the block when I was in labour with both Joel and Tehya. Great look with Tehya as I was in my shorty pjs and a singlet top that didnt meet my pants :)
Im sure you'll do great. Sending you heaps of speedy and painfree (well as painfree as it can be) labour vibes to you :D
Oh and you do know that it is ok to take some panadol don't you. Try and have a walk and go for a nice warm shower and get some rest. SOunds liek your going to have a busy afternoon/evening.
-
Ooh Sherie! I've just logged on to find your exciting morning! I hope all goes well and your little man is with you soon.
Sending you happy, wonderful labour vibes!
-
Thanks Rachel & Trish! :)
Oh yeah I know I can have panadol Trish but I have been so good all pregnancy (not having any) that I'll hold off until I get real desperate. Hehe, I was thinking about going for a walk this morning in my PJ's...not a pretty sight but at this point I could walk around naked and not care I think! ;)
-
Yes, that's what I am trying to think too Kate! :) With each contraction/cramp it is one closer to him arriving and one closer to the 9 month wait. :)
Hehe, I think I'm in denial between the pains though...
-
LOL, ahh the things you will do when in labour. I remember after getting back from my walk when labouring with Tehya. My waters had broken and I was wakling around Mum's house with no pants on and towel between my legs catching drips :)
I agree with Kate too on focusing on each contraction as bringing you closer to bub. That and "ok, thas done, where's the next one".
-
Yep, Yep I am also in agreeance...
We want our babies so badly, we have nurtured them for 9 months, so once the contractions start I welcomed them, coz it meant one less til bubs is in your amrs!! So I too focused on that, in the end it's like OK that ones finished, bring on the next one!!!!
OOH with maddy I had constant trickle for a day & a half & I too can recall a towel shoved between my legs whilst I shimmied around the house!!!
man it's exciting I ahve goose bumps!!!
-
So how are you going Sherie?? I hope things are progressing nicely for you :)
-
We're all vicariously on this journey with you Sherie. Thank you so much for all your posts and keeping us up to date.
My waters broke shortly before transition and they went with avengence with DS! It was more like "look out!!!!" so I can't comment on that one.
At the others have said, enjoy each contraction as it's one closer to bubs being in your arms, and each one is helping your cervix open a wee bit more, and preparing your body for birth. :)
-
YAY i hope your labour has started Sherie!! My fingers are crossed for ya!
-
I have just found out that Sherie had her baby boy at 5.50 this evening. :) 8lbs 7 and as yet, unnamed and everyone is well. No other details at this stage.
How exciting! :D Well Done Sherie!!
-
Congratulations Sherie and DH.
Lots of love to you all, particularly your little boy.

-
Congratulations Sherie! I hope that you and your beautiful boy are well.
-
Congrats Sherie on the birth of your son!!!!!!!!! It was great reading about your progress - hope it all went really well.........well obviously it did cause you have a healthy bub and mum at the end of it :confetti:
-
How lovely! Sounds like everything went smoothly for her then.
-
Thanks Megan, for letting the girls know that our bubba was born! :)
Thanks girls, for being there on Friday when I needed someone to 'talk' to. :) Would you believe the 'pains' (duh, contractions!!!!) started around 8 am and by 2 pm when we finally got to the hospital I was FULLY DIALATED, they put me straight onto a bed and told me to start pushing!!!! The only problem was that I pushed full on for almost 3 hours (usually it's around 45 minutes maximum they said!) and have some major problems 'down there' now. Otherwise everything is good though...and our little boy RILEY CAMERON is just gorgeous!!!! :)
Congratulations to Kell too!!!! Jesse Tyler is a gorgeous name (Tyler was one of our 3 shortlisted names!). I hope you're coping well with him!! :)
-
Congratulations again Sweets, you have managed to bypass all the wretched waiting around in a hospital LOL. Were you at the Base or Calvary?
Riley Cameron is a great name and I am so happy that everything is well for you.
