wow hard to believe it is already august!

eliana got given her cousins walker on saturday so she spent all afternoon & some of this morning scooting around & of course getting into so many things that i didn't think she could reach - she is still not crawling but is loving the independence. we spent yesterday at DP's mum's place so i could make eliana a teddy bear out of a towel - ive almost got it finished, the patchwork dress is taking longer!

i'm going crazy from the lack of sleep
wolf gave me another crap night with screaming from 12 - 1 and 4 to 5:30 (then mini sleep and then awake from 6). i just don't know what to do anymore. i was hoping to have an afternoon nap with him but he just screams and screams when I try to put him in his cot. what happened to my wonderful sleeper? i can't continue living on 3-4 hours of sleep, especially not pregnant.

snowy - you poor thing i hope you got some more sleep last night - i thought i would have problems with eliana when i got her to self settle a few weeks back - she did wake up a few times but i just pressed her fisher price music thing on (i have it on the repeat of one song for 20mins) & she just goes back to sleep - hopefully wolf will be out of it soon - maybe he senses there is another baby on the way & he's getting all the attention he can now!

well, last night was a lot better. he cried himself to sleep within a few minutes (had to, i just couldn't cope... but i felt so bad... but it worked) and he woke a fewtimes but just a little, put dummy back and turned on "music for dreaming" and he kept sleeping. yeah!!

yes, i think he might sense something is up (and mommy is grouchy from the p/g... oooops)
i really wonder how it will all be with 2 munchkins.........

okay, one floppy tired baby is squiming on my lap, better go and have a family snooze :)

Snowy, glad to hear Wolf slept a little better last night. Fingers crossed this turnes into a habit. It must be so hard looking after Wolf and being pregnant. I can still remember how tired I would get in the early days of pregnancy and oh, the morning sickness. You deserve a big =D> !!

Mel, the walker sounds great. I keep thinking about getting one for Aidan but always seem to change my mind for one reason or another! That teddy bear sounds adorable, I cant imagine ever being that crafty!

I have been MIA for a little while as I was quite sick a few weeks ago with severe abdominal pain (I think it turned out to be due to a change in diet - I am trying to lose weight and had a binge on the Saturday night, the same night the pains arrived). Anyway due to a very thorough doctor I had an u/s and they discovered I had polycystic ovaries which was quite a shock. Not sure what to think so not thinking about it right now. I just hope it doesnt cause any problems with TTC #2 when we start (maybe the start of next year).

Well I keep forgetting about new threads and new months starting lol and at the moment I cant access my emails grrrr so im not getting alerts...

It is pooring with rain here this morning :( but on the upside I am going shopping for outfits for a wedding we are going to ;)

DP has started a new job and gets up at 3am home by 11, thing is lately I have been getting up at 3 too coz I cant get back to sleep...

Jaykob is well, although not really showing many signs of wanting to move.. He says dadda now, DP was stoked and was worried I would be sad that he didnt say mum first lol (well i was a little, but we wont tell him that)

we are having a quiet day at home today - we went to seaworld yesterday for DP's birthday - i gave him a swim with the dolphins as a surprise & he loved it - eliana liked the animals she could see & was fascinated by the dolphins

it's almost lunch time here so better check the other forums out & find something to feed eliana

2 good nights in a row and then last night again awake for 2.5 hours... he ALMOST fell asleep several times and then rolled over, got on all fours and was wide awake again. I was so frustrated, I just let him cry. Then after a good half hour of him crying, I put him back on his back, put in the dummy and he fell asleep. It's really weird, I can't figure out what's going on with him. he's not in pain or anything, he just seems to be wide awake and wants to play...

oh, swimming with the dolphins.. that's my absolute dream!! so want to do it one day. SIL did it and it looked so neat! What a great present. He must have been stoked!

Wolf is just so gorgeous right now. He likes to crawl away from me and when I chase after him on all fours, he breaks out in hysterical laughter. It's so cute. He also loves to play ball. He can actually roll/throw it to me (well, 80% of the time it goes to me) and when I pick it up, he laughs and thinks it's so funny. I'm so in love with my little man - is it possible that we love our little munchkins more and more every day? It feels like that to me at least... :hbeat:

Melbee - he wakes up occasionally but i dont mind coz i take him into bed with me, otherwise im all alone :( Im still not used to being alone for those few hours in the morning ... i still get scared im such a dork! lol

Woohoo Colleen on Jaykob saying dada. Kaleb is still stuck on baba and that's about it, apart from blowing raspberries.

I just can't believe how active Kaleb is now and how much attention he demands. He is just constantly crawling and climbing and hates being inside. Days where we're at home all day are a nightmare, it is so much easier being out and about. Can 7 month olds already start showing signs of ADHD, because that's what it feels like, lol!

Yes, we have been very quiet. I think ever since Dachlostar graduated to the next group we've lost an avid poster :smt039 *hi dachlostar, we miss you* :smt039

Well, Wolf slept through until 5 a.m. - would you believe it?? I think I've actually figured it out: we both have a nasty stomach bug. DH had it in the beginning of July for almost 2 weeks and he must have passed it on to Wolf and then Wolf to me. No wonder he's been pooing 3-4 times a day. But yesterday just twice, so I guess he's getting better (which can't be said for me... arrrg..)

Morning sickness is on and off... usually bad in the evenings and the stomach cramps from the bug aren't helping either. Sometimes I wonder whether I feel like throwing up because of m/s or because of the bug.

Beth, yes, it does seem to get more exhausting, doesn't it? The time when you could just leave them somewhere and they a) couldn't go anywhere and b) were content are over... but it's so exciting to watch them explore the world (unless it's the toilet stone... lol)

colleen - i know what you mean about being by yourself - im 35 in november & still freak myself out - at least you have your little guy to protect you!

snowy - that is great that wolf is sleeping better - eliana has had a two bad night but i think she is teething - hope you are both feeling better & that your m/s goes soon - it is quiet without dach

we went looking at display homes yesterday - thinking of building so thought we would see what was out there & if we both like the same thing (luckily we do) DP carried eliana in the baby pouch (wasn't sure if she was too big for it) but she loved it & of course seeing herself in the all the mirrors in those place - poor DP's shoulders were sore though

beth - sounds like kaleb is into everything - just wait till he is walking! i keep forgetting to ask if you ever met up with some mums in a park at chermside when kaleb was little? there was a mum with a kaleb who came to our first meet & just wondering if it was you?

eliana hasn't put on much weight lately - in fact she hasn't put any on in about a month - she weighs 8.6kgs now & is 74cm long (that's not alot considering she was 5.1kgs & 58cm born) i will see how she goes this week as she is still eating, pooping & weeing ok

Melbee, Jaykob too slowed down in weight gain for a bit (4.5 kilos born & 11.5+ now) But i think with bigger bubs they tend to slow down alot more than other babies because theres more to lose if you get what I mean?
I was worried because he didnt gain in a month but the clinic said it was ok coz hes a bit too big anyways lol

Snowgirl - Sorry to hear bout the M/s, but great that Wolf slept through to 5! Not good about the stomach bug...

Beth I can relate to the being out and about thing, when we are home it seems really draining to be entertaining , but if we go shopping he seems happy with the sites IYKWIM

Not much news here, Jaykobs loving going swimming lately, Im getting him prepared for swimming lessons, Must admit Im enjoying going to the pools aswell.. its relaxing..

Pretty quiet weekend here, they all seem to be that way... Such a boring lot we are!

just thought I'd pop my big head in and see how you are all going.

Snowy- sorry to hear you are suffering from lack of sleep, not what you need when pg, but hopefully it is just a tummy upset and it gets better soon. Where is Wolf sleeping now? Is he too cold at night? What about day sleeps, how does he go there? Try not to worry too much about having 2 close together. There is 18mths between Jemma and Jessica, and I won't tell you it was the easiest thing in the whole world, but once you get into a routine it is so nice to have them close together. They are starting to interact now and it is just gorgeous.

melissa- I wouldn't worry about Eliana's size. Jessica was 3kgs born and at 10 mths weigh in was 8kgs and 68cms tall. As long as she is growing and developing, it doesn't really seem to matter. Seems like Eliana is quite happy and healthy, so try not to stress!

Jess- I hope you are feeling better, and also hope the ovary thing doesn't cause probs for you down the track.

thanks for the reassurance - it's more my DP's mum that says i should get her checked but everything else seems normal & she is tall for her age

mitch - great to hear your girls are going well - i will be up there soon & it is scary to think our babies will be turning one soon - the time has just gone way too fast

i am spending the day doing housework - i have my mum, sister-in-law, niece & nephew coming tomorrow (they don't come down to brisbane often - im the one that goes up the coast to see them) so im busy making sure everything looks good - i know they probably don't care but a a good tidy up never hurt anyone - just need to keep my little helper occupied!!

just to further calm you mel, jess was 8.55kgs today at 11mths 1 wk, 71 cm tall and hc 44.6cms, which makes her 20th percentile height and 30th percentile weight, MCHN is not concerned.

thanks michelle :D i know that there is nothing wrong with her just when other people say "ohhhhhhhh she hasn't put on any weight" i start to worry but if they opened their eyes they can see she is fine!

DPs mum and gran are forever going "oh i can feel his ribs now, hes lost sooo much weight, is he eating ok? he must be cutting out feeds" ](*,)

if you have seen him, youd know hes far from skinny, they are just blind!!

lol. don't worry girls, I'm sure all your bubs are doing well and I agree, 74cm is really tall! they don't grow in height if they are not being fed well. maybe she's just a skinny girl... don't listen to what other people say. babies come like adults in all sizes and shapes.
Wolf has been putting on some weight recently. I have noticed he drinks more and more formula now, about 600ml a day when I was struggling to get 400-500 into him before. but he hasn't grown in height in months now! he seems to be stuck at 70cm and I wish he'd grow a little.
He has slept through for 3 nights in a row now (til 5 a.m. that is) and he has stopped pooing 4 times a day, so I guess that must have been it. It's been wonderful to sleep through (though I still tend to wake... doh! just natural body clock..)
busy arranging our move to london atm so just a short one from me.
still feeling a bit nauseous but hopefully that will pass. 12weeks +1 day today, so homestretch of the first trimester. yeah! saw bubs yesterday briefly at the obgyn. it was so nice. it's still just as exciting second time round! bubs was very active and dancing around and I was totally transfixed (while DH was wrestling with Wolf in the background, he he)

I havent logged on for so long, my days just seem to disapear and now I find out that you are pregnant Snowy and moving to London!!! It seems like I have missed heaps.

Hannah is doing really well, she a long skinny bub - we have no idea where that comes from! No teeth yet, I look every morning but so far she is holding out on me - I have such tooth envy. Unfortunately she has all the teething grizzliness and that has been going on for months.

Sorry it's been so long, I have been working back at Flight Centre 3 days a week so I dont have much spare time these days. I am really enjoying it and other than possibly cutting down to 2 days I hope I can become permanant part-time (just casual, helping out at the moment).

Aidan is good, but he has a bad cough at night and sometimes during the day. He is on precautionary anti-biotics and the Dr mentioned it could be the start of asthma but I just think it is a LOOOONG lingering cough from his last cold and am hoping it goes away soon, poor little thing. *TMI Warning* He still has a lot of snot and I think it is tickling his throat - I wish he knew to cough it up and spit it out!

snowy - woohoo on getting into the 2nd trimester - hopefully your m/s will go soon - are you looking forward to the move to london? i lived in wimbledon in 95 & loved it there - im sure wolf will love the change

this is our last night in here - eliana is 9months tomorrow - i was cleaning my teeth this morning & thought that 18 months ago she was just being made! had a great day yesterday with my family - eliana loves playing with her cousins - today we went to see bananas in pyjamas - they were great & eliana loved the rat the best!! then i picked up eliana's godmother (she was up for sydney for the day for a work appt) & had lunch at the airport with her - eliana loved the planes - she got so excited - not sure what is so exciting about a plane!!

Mimo - good to hear from you again. How is life in Wellington? Have you found a nice moms group? Wolf doesn't have any teeth yet either. Drools like a champion and every goes "oh, he's teething, he's teething" but he's been drooling like that for months and still no teeth...

Jess, how nice you got some part time work. What do you do with Aidan during the time? It must be nice to get out of the house and get some stimulation. I do miss it a bit - but I also think I'd miss Wolf so much (and it would be a bit pointless for me right now considering I'm pregnant again)

Not much news here - all the same but still exciting. Wolf is crawling and climbing and giggling and playing peek-a-boo with jumpers & blankets and walking along the sofa and smiling so proudly when he does it...

Our poor little girl has picked up my cold, she is screaming when we put her down to sleep and usually she drops off quite quickly. Night time is the worst though, we have about 2 hours of screaming and grizzling. Up until last night when she was really congested I didnt know whether she was sick or playing games coz once we are in the room she stops and starts smiling. We dont want to spoil her but then again we dont want her not feeling well and being left by herself. We gave her some baby panandol last night and again this morning but I hate doing that. We are just not sure what to do, poor little munchkin.

Snowy - Im enjoying Wellington, mind you before that we lived in Jabiru and pretty much anything is better than there! I havent met too many people but just recently have started going to playgroups 1-2 times a week so Im hoping that will change. The cold is taking a bit to get used to, I dont htink Ihave had a cold for about 3 years and since we have been here I have had about3 bad ones, I dont htik I am dressing warmly enough so Im going to bite the bullet and buy a couple of warmer jumpers.

Today we have Hannah's tree ceremony, the suburb where we live presents a tree to each baby born in the last year and you get a certificate and a photo of us and the tree! I think its quite a cute idea. We are planning to plant ours in the verge out the front of our house, they were all NZ natives so I picked the only one I had heard of, it has lovely red flowers. Mind you it probably take 15 years to grow and by that time we will be lviing somewhere else!

yeah, Wellington is cold (and windy), isn't it. You'll probably need some warm coats to combat the wind.

Wolf has a cold too. We went to a playground on Friday and it was either him not wearing any socks or shoes or he caught it from another kid there. He's been quite whingey since and woke up every hour last night for a little cough and cry :( awful, isn't it. He puked up mucus twice (once on himself, once on me... arrg). But in the day time he is pretty okay and happy.

Other than that all is well. The night before his cold he actually slept through til 10 past 6! Things seem to be improving sleeping-wise.
Still feeling a bit queasy in the mornings but I hope it will go away soon. NT scan on Tuesday. Looking forward to seeing bubs again.

Wolf still has his cold. Coughing lots and nose running all over the place (yuck). He puked pretzel all over me at the supermarket today and I had nothing to mop it up with... doh.. (I should have learned by now not to leave the house without wetwipes). Ended up walking to the cheese counter and got some paper towels from the lovely 'cheese-lady' working there ....

Wolf is very clingy. And just wants me all the time. He even pushed DH away this a.m. when I asked him to watch Wolf while I make the bottle. I think DH was a little upset... I guess all kids want their moms when they are sick, hey?

Jaykob said mum today! I got really excited and kinda swerved all over the road :s lol He said dad first and I was happy that he did but it was great to hear my name today!

Hes being really clingy atm, but thats ok i guess, a little frustrating at times.

Just wondering, seeing as this is an age appropriate forum, what do you all give your bubs for snacks that they can hold, eg arrowroot biscuits / rusks, wat else??

For snacks Ive tried a iece of mandarin, a wedge of apple with the skin cut off and rusks - not very imaginative sorry!

Actually Id be interested in how much you are feeding your bubs - Im not sure Im giving Hanah enough food. At the moment she has

wake up - bottle (approx 150ml) or sometimes porridge,
11am - bottle (approx 150ml)
12Pm - can of fruit or custard
3Pm a bottle (approx 150ml)
5PM - 4 ice cubes of whatever concoction I have made of meat and veg for the week(approx 1/2 cup)
6:30 - another bottle (approx 150ml)
7:00 BED (YAY!!!!!)

She is still waking for a bottle some nights so thats why Im wondering if she is getting enough food. She wont drink anymore than 150ml at at time.

Colleen, funny you should mention snack food, I had an interesting mothers group at my place today where everyone at first complimented me on the new rug in the lounge room, and one Mum was worried that her daughter would christen it with a spew, I said not to worry, an hour later all the babies are crawling/sitting on my new rug with biscuits in their hands, thus my new rug turned into a biscuit mess. I am not an uptight person, but I really was disappointed that they would treat my house like that. A few of the babies are over 9 months so they actually know how to eat snack foods, but two in particular are a few months younger so they are just learning to eat. I really was shocked, normally I get along with these girls so well. Anyway, really needed to vent.

Mimo, I would suggest feeding Hannah more solids. I know I fell into the same trap of not keeping up with Aidan's growth and eventually realised he was hungry, so in the past 2 weeks I have pretty much doubled his amount of solid food and he seems much happier. Here is Aidan's routine:

8amish - brekky = muesli then bottle
1pmish - lunch = fruit jar and 1/2 banana and 1 kiwi fruit, mashed then bottle
6pmish - dinner = lamb shank broth (will finally post the recipe!), jelly, then bottle

Quantities are:

Museli, about 1/3 cup
Bottles, all 200ml plus formula
Broth - about 1/2 cup
Jelly - about 1/3 cup (I make this too, will post with broth recipe!)

As you can see I dont really do snack foods, Aidan doesn't seem very interested. I can suggest cheese sticks, all the babies at mothers group seem to like those, and arrowroot bickies! You can get the cheese in the dairy section at the supermarket and they are in cute milk carton containers. Have fun!

Jaykob tends to have his day like this :

7am - boobie for 10 minutes, back to sleep til 9
9am - yoghurt with museli 1/2 a cup
12 - jelly / custard / 1/2 cup & boob
3pm- 10 million arrowroot biscuits lol (looking for new ideas!)
6pm- dinner 2/3rds cup of pumpkin / potato etc
7pm- boob


Im really scared to bring in my own meats, i have given him heinz chicken/ meats but im a scaredy cat! :s

Lamb Shank Broth

2 lamb shanks, trimmed of fat
1 celery stick, chopped - or more
1 large carrot, chopped - or more
1 large potato, chopped - or more
1 tablespoon barley - or more
4 cups water - or more

Throw everything into large saucepan and bring to boil. Cover and simmer for about an hour. Turn off heat. Take shanks out and peel off meat once cool. Make sure meat is all in bite size bits and put back in. I then portion it all and freeze it. When I serve, I drain the juice and mash. Yum!


Jelly

1 litre of fuit juice
3 teaspoons of gelatine

Pour 1/4 of juice into bowl and sprinkle gelatine on top. Over boiling water, stir gelatine and juice until gelatine is dissolved. Stir this into the remaining juice and put in fridge until jelly-like!

Jessica, OMG at the way those mum's treated your rug. I would be so angry if anyone trashed my rugs. I get annoyed if people wear shoes in my home, we had a guy looking at our house the other day wearing shoes and he must have noticed me looking ****ed off because he was trying to jump over my rugs lol.

Colleen, some snacks/fingerfood that I give Yasin are - toast soldiers with vegemite
little sandwiches with vegemite or apricot jam (I avoid the berry jams)
steamed carrot sticks
toated muffins or crumpets with apricot jam cut into quarters
a jar of petit miam (not finger food)
little bits of rockmelon/canteloupe or watermelon
we tried french toast for the first time yesterday (but we have no allergy history in our family - if you do you might want to avoid whole egg until 1 year)
naan bread
a bit of leb bread rolled around some cheese or jam
cheese sticks (I use a harder cheese because the ECHN said that the soft ones sometimes stick to the roof of thier mouths)

Snowy, how exciting to be getting a peek at your bub. I hope Wolf's feeling better. Yasin is going through a clingy stage at the moment too. Its really cute and I'm cherishing it because usually he's a very busy little person and being a little boy it will be no time before he's too cool to cuddle his mum.

Mimo, the tree planting sounds like a great intiative. DH got me a little palm when Yasin was born which is growing nicley in a pot in our lounge.

Emily is now 6mths and 2 weeks (I think) and is crawling and pulling up. She has two teeth and is eating solids reasonably well. She seems to eat them better if Kev or I don't feed them to her.

We now have a wedding date set, 2nd september next year!!

Beth, i know what you mean about active baby! Lily just cannot sit still. She cannot crawl yet(not sure if she ever will) But is rolling from one end of the lounge room to the other without me noticing sometimes. She is trying to pull her sel up onto things now and when i stand her up she can hold on for quite a while onto the side of her cot. She also learnt to wave yesterday, it is so cute with her arm flapping about at strangers!

Lily's naming day is this saturday, can't wait. We're having it at my mum's so have to catch a plane. Lily's second plane trip in her first 8mths of life!

Thanks Jess and MLJakob I think I will increase her food a bit. On the chese sticks - I tried some with Hannah the other day, they were the soft kind and she was choking on them a bit (so I ate them instead LOL!).

Jess - how much water do you add to the fruit juice jellly and do you dilute the fruit juice as well? The broth sounds yummy - I could have that for lunch.

Are you guys still pureeeing food?

I had Hannah back at the Drs again this moring after she spent the whole morning crying and coughing - I was starting to get worried. It turns out she has a mild bronchial inflammation and some wheeziness but nothing too bad, we will just ahve to keep an eye on her. I have had asthma all my life so its something I am really conscious of.

Doe - congrats on the wedding date! I bet with Lily and planning the wedding the time will fly. The tree ceremony was excellent, they took a photo of each family and their tree and we have a little certificate, a really nice idea I think.

Thanks guys, the scan was great. Bubs seem to be doing fine. Downs risk is 1:3000, so I'm happy. It was lower with Wolf but then again I was 2 years younger when it was done (as it was done just 1 month before my birthday :D)

As to food schedule, Wolf has the following:

5-6 a.m. wake up bottle (180 ml)
8:30 a.m. breakfast bottle (150ml)
12:00 lunch (veggies / veggies & meat or fish)
3:00 p.m. fruit & yoghurt
6:00 p.m. semolina/grits/cereal with cows milk & a little fruit
8:00 p.m. night bottle (150ml)

I do want to move the evening cereal to breakfast time eventually and turn the veggies lunch into a sandwich or something like that and then move the veggies to dinner, so skip one bottle feed but will probably wait with that until he is 9 months and we are in London.

My niece who is 10 months only gets one bottle a day now and her creche would prefer if her mom wouldn't give her the morning bottle but some 'proper' breakfast. The Japanese are weird... I thought babies need 500ml of milk a day... (no wonder they are so short :p)

Snacks: Wolf will have rice crackers (without salt) or soft pretzel (without salt). He munches on that happily. I don't want to give him biscuits or cookies yet because of the high sugar contents. Also I sometimes give him vegemite toast fingers. He's a big vegemite fan. Or any other bread I happen to have handy.
