I have posted in the buy swap sell forum, just post in there is you are interested :)
Tanya
ETA... what is the best pattern to use... can someone email me or pm me??
-
Good luck with the bamboo fleece co-op Tanya :D It's great stuff!
I've used VeryBasic AIO and recently Honeyboy. Are you after an AIO or a fitted pattern?
Had a delivery just now of some red PUL and some 4mm hook and loop. I looooove getting sewing supplies as much as full made fluffy mail

-
Wow FJ it looks fantastic :D
-
Ok, what do you girls think is the best material to make AIO with? i know the bamboo is really think, is it best to just use it for boosters in the AIO?
What about the outer material, what do you all recomend?
Tanya

I have not made a AIO but if I did I would have it with a fleece outter, then a hidden PUL layer. Then either bamboo or hemp fleece. then that again in the wet zone (maybe 2 layers) topped with a microfleece, then a snap in booster of 2 layers of B or H fleece with microfibre in the middle of the 2 layers & toped with microfleece. I would probably do a little lay in booster as well so I could have it either a full on nappy or just a light one.
Wildchild night nappy & sandmads both have that layer of microfibre between the 2 layers of B or H fleece. I only have sandmands & at first I didn't really like them but now I do, they have proven themselves to me & I use them over teh BBB's. I would love to try a wildchild one as it would be basically a bamboo version of the sandman ( but I think the over all design of the WC one is nicer then the SM) so I think it would make a great night nappy. So I would basically like a trimer version AIO of those 2 nappies.
If you use somethink like a MM fleece as teh outter you might not need the PUL but not sure. Or just a poly PUL would be ok on its own I think. But I don't think I would use a cotton PUL as they can wick.
-
Tanya PUL as the outer layer works well as well as fleece such as malden mills. I've got both cotton and poly PUL and have had no wicking problems.
If you make a soaker pad of bamboo and attach it to a flanelette hidden inner it works a treat. Also a nice booster of 2 or 3 layers (more than 3 would take too long to dry I think) of bamboo.
I've made one with a hidden layer of bamboo and while it is nice and absorbant it's a bit too bulky and tricky to close up the seam once you turn it the right way out because it's sooooo thick.
What pattern are you looking at using?
-
Pattern... I have no idea... lol... That's MIL job ;) I have to lead her in the right direction tho.
-
Tanya - hows the nappy making going matie??? has it messed with your head yet? pmsl
FJ - great job on your cover to matie and I bet Gigi is totally wrapped
Just got a bucket more of snaps today...I cant believe how quickly im going through them atm. I really have to stop buying so much dame fleece and sew more.
My next big adventure is making prefolds.....am i sucker for punishment or what??

*BREAKING NEWS*
Just got confirmation that the fleece Maz and I bought from ebay as "Malden Mills" isn't!
I sent a sample over to the USA for confirmation and they have said without a doubt it is not one of their fabrics.
If you have bought some and the pile lifts off in tufts or it pills in the wash it isn't MM.
We got black but I remember there was also a beige one for sale too
Not sure if it's the seller I should be mad at because there is every chance that they too were fleeced (no pun intended ;) ) and purchesed of a suspect supplier that also duped them.
Anyhow time for some complaints to ebay! Let's see if we can get our money back (if it's possible :dunno:)
-
I got that fleece too.... :( . How do we go about a refund then...I havent cut mine yet either
-
Yay! good on you sammi for following that up. I have cut & sewed with mine but its not wat I thought I was getting so still think a refund is in order.
-
Hey guy's just bear with us. We'll start the ball rolling with ebay and see what happens then get you on board as well.
-
-
ive reproted them to ebay and now going to paypal to do the same
this chick has to learn and she messed witht he WRONG amigo's
-
so should I also report to ebay or just wait?
-
couldnt hurt if you reported it aswell
-
I've had another girl contact me after one of the messages I put on other boards. There is a bit of a posse after her now ;)
-
I have had a email from her saying to read the item again & a refund will be given once the item is returned. I have alread cut & used it so I can't do that plus not worth the bother. She also said in the paypal dispute thing that she has a receipt from MM for the material.
I replied saying I had been in contact with others, we all had doubts about it being MM & a sample was sent to them whom confirmed it was not theirs.
Anyone else had a direct reply from her?
-
now she is asking for me to send any documents, letters etc I have to support the claim....
Is she in contact with any of you? What do I do?
-
she hasnt contacted me as yet, but ebay got back to me and they are investigating her now
-
I will just leave it alone for now then. Ebay put me through to paypal so thats how I opened the dispute. I think I should have left it alone for now. Oh well....
-
Fiona I sah bah to her and her returns policy. I'll gladly give her back the remainder of the fleece (with her footing the postage I might add...why should we have to pay for the cr@p to be posted back to her!). What about the stuff that has been cut and sewn?
Just leave the communication till I have a more formal letter from the guy who's been helping me at MM. Let her know that the sample has been sent to MM in America for analysis and it is on that sample that we are opening up the dispute. They say it's not their product, and we have every right to dispute it!
-
HI girls I just recieved the fleece I bought off a lady and it is only one sided... is that normal? I know the babmboo fleece nappy I have is fleece on both sides. Defineately not what I thought it was going to be.... also it is a ring (?) rather than flat...? Can I still make nappies out of it?
Tanya
-
Tanya the bamboo I've got is fleece on one side and knit on the other. Sometimes the fabric comes in a tube. I've had hemp that way. It's just one way of manufacturing and makes no difference to what you can make with it.
-
Oh good :D I was a little bit panicked about it, but that has set my mind at ease.
Now you have told me it's ok, I can wash it :) (5 times yu reccon Maz?)
Tanya
-
tanya - give me a call when your ready to come around matie, some people dont wash their fleece 5 times but only once, I wash it 5 times for
a) shrinkage
b) to make the material heaps more absorbent
-
So how do you wash it? Warm or cold? I think you said it can be tumble dried?
I've had it on the clothes horse for 24hrs and it still isn't dry
I might come over thursday... i was soo tired today. How are you?
Tanya
-
tumble dry the bugger honey
have penciled you in for thrusday ;)
-
Hey - with everyone's MM fleece....does everyone know that it needs to be the DWR stuff for it to be used for nappies? Just checking cos 2 yards of what I ordered from them wasn't DWR 'cos at the time I didn't know about it - just letting you know for future reference! That's only for the 100, 200 and 300wt stuff though - I think windpro and windbloc is ok regardless? Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
-
So what will do be doing with your dodgy stuff then Cat
-
yeah I don't know....lucky I used some of it for my trial nappies....I was always confused when the white ones wicked heaps! I was thinking of ebay or even putting it on my site, but with a big disclaimer about the DWR.
-
could you maybe use it will PUL under it (for customs ;) )or can you buy the spray and spray it (does that makes sence?)
-
Not allowed to do hidden PUL with HB's, I asked the BBY people. There is a WAHM doing it in the US at the moment but they'll revoke her license when it's time to renew it if she hasn't stopped by then. Plus it defeats the purpose of having to use MM over other fleece in terms of cost. Though in saying that my sponsor prize has hidden PUL (I'd already made it and asked BBY about it and they said while it wasn't recommended they can't really do anything about it) so phew for that. And I put in the description that it's non standard.
As for the spray stuff, have never used it but Mel knew about it (and yeah I hope she's ok like you said, she's been away for a while :()...I could do it but you have to reapply it every so often I think so whoever bought the nappy would then have to buy some spray as well...pain in the butt say I!
-
Where is the best place to buy toweling? Some nice soft stuff?
Tanya

what sort are you looking for..bamboo, cotton, hemp? And what do you want to use it for? If it is for nappies I have some single sided bamboo towelling that I have some spare of...if you want double sided bamboo try Meg at The Bamboo fabric store, if you want cotton or hemp try bubba earth or GreenBeans in NZ...the postage rate from NZ is good and the exchange rate actually works in our favour making it cheaper to get some things from there. Feel free to pm me Tanya if you would like more info...
