Clomid and vaginal ultrasound

I have PCOS (and am trying to get pregnant) and I will be starting to take Clomid in a months time. I have vaginal pain and tension on penetration and am aware that when you take Clomid, the nurse/doc does regular vaginal ultrasounds to monitor eggs, etc. vaginal ultrasounds are terrifying to me!

Does anyone know if there is any other way for the nurses to do this? Or will I have to put up with my pain/anxiety and go ahead with these ultrasounds??

Hi Flowergal, mostly they use internal u/s, but I found I only had to do one a cycle which hopefully reduces the anxiety a little. They use a wand like thing which I found not too difficult to manage, and nowhere near as bad as something like a speculum which can be mighty uncomfy without additional tension difficulties.

Have you ever had a vaginal u/s before?

Flowergal, make sure you talk over these issues with your doctor. It may be possible that they may be able to monitor by blood test instead, but it's important that they know what they are up against.

I had my first internal U/S done yesterday and it was not in the least bit uncomfortable or anything to what i expected. The cool gel they use i found to actually relax downstairs IYKWIM!! Don't worry to much they sound alot worst than they actually are!!

Thanks for info and reassurance girls. I haven't had an internal ultrasound before. But I can't stand pap smears or anything too large going in there. Is it similar to a pap smear? Don't think I'm seeing my doctor again before I start the Clomid so hopefully the nurses who do it will be understanding about it (and gentle!) If anyone else has any comments/advice/info to add please keep the replies coming!! Cheers

Flowergal, internal ultrasounds are nothing like a pap smear at all. Much less painful than pap smears.

I agree with BW on the much more comfy than a pap smear factor. Its much less stressful as a whole.

Also if the u/s is to count follies then you need to know to empty your bladder right before the appt so they get a clear view. Saves having to dash out in a gown ;)

Hey Flower gal :) internal ultrasounds are a little uncomfortable but no where near having a pap screen for starters they don't jack you up like your a car ouch :) and second they use a gel, i found that through all of my scans the majority of people are very sensitive to your needs especially when you have ovaries full of follicles that are screaming at you!! Anyway would love to hear how you go with the clomid good luck and try to relax along your journey, have done clomid now up to fsh injections and have pcos.

Neane, FSH injections will be my next step after three months on the Clomid if it doesn't work for me. Let me know how you go with the injections. I hate needles so don't know how I'd go having to give myself one! Good luck :pray:

Hey flower gal, the injections aren't so bad initially the idea of injecting myself everyday wasn't something i was to impressed about. But i decided to just get on with it. I think the trick is just top do it really quickly as the needle does sting for like a second, i found that as my dose of fsh increased it does sting a little bit more. But the good news is that with the fsh you can keep going until you get the desired follicle size whereas the clomid you can only take that for five days and that's it. so how far are you into the clomid cycle? :)

I actually haven't started the Clomid yet.

i am on Oestrogen tablets for another 2-3 weeks, then when I go off them I should get my period, and I will start the Clomid with my period.

:) Good luck with it all. would be great to hear how you go. i have finally got a nice big juicy follicle that is growing nicely thank god hopefully next week will be the week it will finally be at the right size and can have trigger injection.

Hey flower gal had the best news today. I had my scan this morning and finally the nice big juicy follicle really grew over the last week measuring 23mm so i got my girlfriend who is a nurse to give me the injection. the last time she gave someone an injection to trigger ovulation the couple got twins...:clap: so i am hoping for a positive preg test on the 15th February. I was so ready to give up and have a break for awhile. I think i am still in shock at the moment, i just had to tell someone. So how is everything going for you?

Around the 15th feb or around then is when I start the Clomid so I will let you know how I go with it. I am counting down the days!

Hey saltprincess, it's good to hear someone else going through the same cycle i am. I will be on luteal support same as you pregnayl every three days which is good cause i don't have to inject myself everyday very tired of doing that. Would love to hear how you go on the 5th of feb hopefully a very positive test result for you. will you be tempted to do urine preg test? my fs is just getting me to do urine preg test is that normal? I only ask as dh and i have only got to this stage once before and they ordered a BT last time.:lol:

OMG OMG OMG I'M PREGNANT!!!!!!:) I did preg test on monday cause i couldn't wait any longer and i had a sneaking suspicion that i might be but wasn't sure cause i didn't know how long the injections would last in my system. I did another preg test wednesday and the line was heaps darker and rang the clinic did blood test and my BHCG levels 102 retested yesterday morning and my levels have doubled. It's weird my DH thought I might of been before I even tested cause I started having to pee every few hours through the night and I'm always starving but only for savoury things anything sweet makes feels sick... how are you all going? would love to hear....:)

I am on my 3rd Clomid tablet today. My moods have been wierd. I'm feeling fine and then all of a sudden I feel really anxious and irritated for no reason.

Did you have any side effects from Clomid?

do you feel like :throw_computer: for no reason, some things that never would annoy you all of sudden have the ability to just get right up your nose. make you want to :cry: for no reason you name it and my personal best was having what my GP told me was reactional depression because of the clomid..... I personnally had a really bad run with it and I new just knew that my body was totally resistant to it. I ended up talking with my fs about how i was feeling and we reevaluated my treatment i went onto fsh injections and felt absaloutely fantastic other than slight bloating towards period time i felt great. I am hoping it all works for you, other woman i have talked to said they had similiar experiences to both of us with varying degrees of severity. I hope i am not scarring you???

Hi neane. It's nice to know that others have experienced anxiety, etc on Clomid - it's feels awful! I took my last tablet today for this month and actually felt great today for a change - not irratable at all. Having blood test on Friday to check my hormones. Then if they are rising I will hopefully have an ultrasound early next week to check out the follicles. Here's hoping! :pray: Hope all is well with you :D I have heard that you get really sore boobs while taking Clomid, but I don't yet. Does that start later in the cycle??

Hey flowergal it really does depend my fs did u/sounds on me more frequently due to the extent of my polycystic ovarian syndrome as i had over 30 follicles on each ovary that they could count. I think everyone is different with the symptoms that they experience and i do know that it is absaloutely wonderful to hear from someone else who has experienced something similiar just to know that you are not going nuts :lol: :cryinglaugh: :wall: I am glad that you are having a good day and good luck for your test on friday :happyforyou: and i really hope those hormones kick in and your in business.

had blood test on Friday and my hormones had risen nicely so went in for my ultrasound this morning.

It was very painful when the probe went in, but was ok once in.

I had lots of follicles but only measured 1.1 rather than 1.8 as they are meant too, so they said I'd prob have to have another scan on Tuesday to see if any of them had grown. I also had a blood test today. just got the results back for that and the nurse said my hormones had dropped again! This means I won't have an ultrasound on Tuesday now. I am just to have a blood test on Tuesday and if my hormones have gone up again I will have another scan. :(

That was pretty upsetting! :cry: I got my hopes up as the Nurse was fairly confident that the follicles would develop further in the next few days, and then the blood test showed my hormones had dropped again! Pretty dissapointing but I guess I'll just hope that my hormones are back up again on Tuesday. :pray: I normally have a really long cycle so this may be why.

hey there, i Know your disappointed but keep your chin up, your body needs sometime to adjust to the onslaught of having all of a sudden produce big ripe juicy follicles and this is frusturating because all you want is to have a positive result and know that in 9months time you will holding the most precious gift in the whole wide world. I found it really hard to and i also found it good to keep things in perspective by writing in my diary and having bellybelly of course. If your not happy using the clomid you could talk with your fs about doing fsh injections which will grow your follicles to the desired size, i found it just as if only a tiny bit more expensive as buying the clomid and had less reactions mood swings. However just because i had a bad rap on clomid doesn't mean everyone else will sorry about that, hang in there chick it will happen, usually when you give up is when it happens. talk with you soon. neane.

i find it difficult because my younger sister got pregnant on the first month of taking Clomid... but i think I have a more severe hormonal imbalance than she does.

I know that it's only the first month on it, but keep getting my hopes up, it's impossible not to - I'm sure you would know that!

As rude as it might sound, lots of people I know refer to it as "dildo cam" because it looks essentially like one IYKWIM. If you're ok with intercourse then I suspect you should be ok with an internal ultrasound.

my first month of Clomid was unsuccessful :(

Now I am on double dose. i take my last tablets for this month tonight.

yay!!! The clomid made me ovulate this month. in 1 and a half weeks I will find out if I'm pregnant or not! :pray:
