Yasmin?
Hi! My doctor gave me a script for the OCP Yasmin, I haven't been on this one before but I was worried about weight gain etc and he said that this had minimal side effects. Just interested in hearing from people who are on this or have been on this and if they have had problems or good experience with it. My DH and I do not want another child in the next year but condoms are just not pleasant! lol. Thanks.

Hi Rachel. I was on Yasmin about two years ago, and I found it had virtually no side effects on me. I stopped using it because at the time, I thought it was contributing to my depression, but since have realised that it was most likely other factors, and not the Yasmin.
So a thumbs up from me :)

Not me personally, but my best friend has been on Yasmin since she was fifteen to help with her PCOS - and she says it's fantastic, she has had no issues with it whatsoever.
Well, the only thing she has said, was like Lisa, that it may have been contributing to her depression - but she got that sorted as well and was from other contributing factors.

I had no problem on it and I am pretty sure it was the last pill I was on before falling pregnant the first time. I used to get bad headaches from other pills and not with Yasmkin. So no problem on it and no problem getting pregnant afterwards. HTH

I was on Yasmin for 2 years before pergnancy and loved it no problems.
I actually changed from other pill to Yasmin due to feeling down on it and bloated.
It is one of most prescribed OCP as does have least side efects i actually have about 4 friends on this one.
-
I actually lost weight on it and it was the best pill I've been on. No side effects to report of in my experience.
-
Thanks ladies! Weight gain was my biggest concern with the OCP...i came off the OCP last time to try to lose weight and ended up gaining a whole lot more weight (my DD)! As much as we love her and wouldn't change it for the world, we are not ready for another one, but I still want to lose weight. Thanks so much, i shall be filling my script this week.

A doctor put me on Yasmin before we TTC this baby as i generally get migrains due to (what i think) hormonal reasons. She said its low dose in something that triggers my migrains which usually come a week before each AF is due. Well, Yasmin didnt help. I still got my migrains.
Dont know if that helps or not but yeh just my experience.
-
I've been on Yasmin for 6 years now (except when ttc or pregnant!) and it's great for me. I used to get many different side effects from other types, but nothing from Yasmin... no weight gain, no sore bbs, and best of all - NO PMS!!
-
I was on Yasmin for about 4 months and got alot of bloating, headaches and severe mood swings - one minute I was fine, the next in a rage! I guess it's different for everyone. I tried 7 different pills with no good results so had to do without it in the end.
-
Thanks Kell, Dee and Jess. I have decided to give it a go. Jess it sounds like you have troubles with many different pills, thanks for your experience, but I have been on many pills before and haven't had a problem so hopefully it will be the same with Yasmin.
Thanks ladies.

Hi-
My Gp Put me on Yasmin as i was worried bout weight gain. He told me that when on yasmin you shouldnt put on any weight and can even lose a small amount- i lost 1kg every month i was on ot (only small amount but hey better then putting weight on) It was expensive when i started it bout 90 bucks for 3 months but think the price may have dropped now...
I stopped it as i was on it for 3 yrs and gave my body a break from the pill...
-
I've just started on Yasmin today, to give it a go for a little while to try and help to regulate my cycle - has been about 12-18 months since I got my period back after 5 years of breastfeeding and its still all over the place, which is very frustrating.
The doctor said to me that there is the notion that it's 'best' on the market as it's most expensive ($55 for 3 cycles), is a new generation hormone and it has an added ingredient which is a diuretic to help prevent common symptoms being on the pill like bloating and water retention. So given it's short term I will be using it, I decided to give it a go because in the past low dose pills have been useless - sick of breakthrough bleeding on them and even the doctor agreed they were a pain. But hopefully wont have many side effects on these like the others in the past. Was on logynon for a while and was sick of headaches.
-
Kelly - hope it works for you. I had probs getting my cycle back after feeding too (even though I only fed for 3 months...) and my doc suggested Lisa Curry-Kenny's 30+. I tried it and after 2 months my cycle and hormones were back on track with even my mood swings settling down. (sorry, that was very off topic...)
-
What is that?! Never heard of it before!!!
-
You get it in the chemist from vitamin section. It says it's a natural way of helping your body to regulate your hormones after being on pill for years or after breast-feeding. It was 2 years ago I used it so can't remember ingredients, but it worked for me and had no side-effects. It's designed for women over 30 years of age, hence the name. I think it's a similar concept to her menopause tablets.
-
Ahhh thanks will check it out :)
-
Thanks ladies. I decided to bite the bullet and go and fill my prescription, so I started it yesterday and we will see how we go. The weight loss sounds very appealing, lol! Kelly, I was on the pill since I was 15 years old due to acne and I honestly can't remember what it was like to have a period without the pill, well, if it is anything like what I have been having I wasn't impressed, my last cycle was 35 days! Very frustrating, so back on the pill I am....plus, this will be less stress when it comes to having fun with my husband! Thanks again for all of your experiences ladies.

Hi Rachel
I was wondering how you have found Yasmin since starting? I was put on it as I reacted badly to another Pill but find I don't have any noticeable side effects from Yasmin so far (2 weeks in).

Yasmin
THE contraceptive pill has been blamed for the death of a 24-year-old Melbourne woman who was using it as part of her acne treatment.
Tanya Hayes, a student from Croydon, died on Monday, hours after collapsing in a car park.
Ms Hayes had been taking an oral contraceptive - recommended for patients using acne medication Roaccutane - for about four months.
Busy working and studying, Ms Hayes had ignored symptoms including "breathlessness" and "a nasty, hard cough" for about a fortnight.
Late Sunday night she collapsed outside a Ferntree Gully restaurant and was rushed to Angliss Hospital.
Ms Hayes died less than five hours later after a pulmonary embolism - blood clotting - in her lungs.
The hospital's director of emergency medicine, Associate Prof Graeme Thomson, said Ms Hayes's death had been "caused by blood clotting caused by factors related to taking the oral contraceptive pill".
Ms Hayes's devastated family said the risks should be printed clearly on the boxes of oral contraceptives.
"We want the precautions for the Pill written on the outside of the Pill (packaging)," said her father, Robert Hayes. "We want youngsters to know how important it is to read the awareness notices."
The fine print in the packaging of Yasmin, the contraceptive medication Ms Hayes had been taking, lists "breathlessness" as a "very rare . . . very serious side effect".
"If we had read the Pill's directions more carefully . . . maybe we would still have Tanya here," Ms Hayes's mother, Genevieve, said.
"My daughter wasn't a vain person, but she'd had acne for 13 years and just wanted to clear it up."
Ms Hayes's twin brothers, Lachlan and Simon, 21, said their beloved sister always put the health of others ahead of her own.
"She was smart, the dux of her school . . . and she was always the person who organised everyone else ," Lachlan said.
"She was nice to everyone."
Dr Stephen Shumack, secretary of the Australasian College of Dermatologists, said contraceptives were advised for women using Roaccutane.
Women using Roaccutane have an "extremely high risk of having a baby that is severely deformed" if they fall pregnant and contraceptives also boost the effectiveness of the acne medication, he said.
Dr Shumack said deaths linked to hormonal contraception was "certainly a recognised event, but it's extraordinarily rare".
According to the Therapeutic Goods Administration, oral contraceptives have been linked to three deaths in Australia since 1973. There have been 56 TGA reports of "suspected adverse events" linked to Yasmin since 2003, but no fatalities.
A spokeswoman for Bayer, the manufacturer of Yasmin, said Ms Hayes's death was being "investigated as a priority".
Dr Christine Tippett, president of the Royal Australian College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, said several factors apart from medication could cause blood clots.

Hi! That death from the PE caused by the pill is a massive tragedy.
Dusty, I actually stopped taking Yasmin one month ago...just got my first period from not being on it. Took it for 6 long horrible months. I had terrible mood swings...i knew i was being a pain but couldn't stop it and I had absolutely no libido at all...so decided to stop taking it...we are thinking about TTC in the next 3 months anyway. So Yasmin definitely did not agree with me at all..one month off and all is back to normal..got libido back (YAY!!) and am much more pleasant to be around. When I first queried about Yasmin someone mentioned this happened to them as well so there you go. I am now staying away from anything that mucks around with my hormone levels....i did not like feeling that way at all. Hope you have better success (my sister is also on Yasmin and has been for years..when i mentioned what was happening to me it got her thinking as she can be very moody and has no libido either..so maybe it is related to the pill also?).

Rachel, I am glad things are much better for you now you are off Yasmin. Sounds like a pretty bad time for you. Good luck with your TTC :)

Hi Ladies,
I had a bad and good experience with Yasmin... i started it when i was 16 because i got sick of taking the Depo. I mainly took Yasmin for acne and period pain as i looked horrible. It did help...for a while. After about 2 years on it i noticed that my period was VERY irregular and abnormaly long. My longest cycle was about 9 months (full on and spotting at times). i went to the doctor, and i got put on Yaz which made it worse. It got to the point that nothing would stop the bleeding when it decided to come...so i finally decided to give Implanon a go. For anyone that is contemplating getting it, i strongly recommend you dont as you gain a lot of weight on it (i gained 10kg in about 5-6 weeks), you spot, you're moody and it is a pain and a half to insert and take out. I know everybody is different, but everybody ive talked to thats had it has mentioned weight gain (sorry...i know this was off topic).
My conclusion is that...after a while...i got 'immune' to the hormone in the pill...therefore i needed a higher dose pill. is this right?
I went to get the Implanon out today...and have started Yasmin again today. Maybe this time round it will make me proud as it did for those two years :) Definitely one of the best pills out there. on the 2 good years i was on it...i lost weight (yay!), had really light short periods, no migranes and it was very reliable...i would know exactly when my period would be due.
Sorry for the long essay...hope i helped :)
Good Luck!

OMG. I started on first day of my period - the 18th of dec and my period is still going. Im experiencing dizzyness, headaches and sore tender breasts. I havent been on the pill for abt 9 yrs as always had bad side affects.before going on Yas my periods were sometimes late. My last due period was over 2 wks late. I did a blood preg test. Next day got period, i was negative. Started Yas and now 16 days later am bleeding non stop since. Is this called breakthrough bleeding? Thanks.

Yasmin had that same affect on me. I stuffed around with a few others after that bit it all had the same affect. I ended up stopping it and I dont take anything now. Not worth the hassle!
