Oh wow...our very own thread how exciting. :D
How are all you lovely ladies and bubbies. Sammys asleep at the moment. He wakes up at 7 every morning and after weve done the mad dash for us all to get ready and go to school..by 9:30 he is completely stuffed and goes back to sleep. He loves all the stimulation though at the school. All the kids come up to him and talk and he just thinks its great.
Mel..long time no see..how are you hon..ive missed you. Hows Hunter going. Sammy sends a big sloppy kiss and hug.
Storm I really hope the morning sickness isnt too bad for you. I bet Zac and his new baby brother or sister will be the best of mates being born so close to each other. DH spun out when I told him someone from our August group was preggers...lol..think hes jealous really...not bout being pregnant which of course is lovely..but that someone else is getting some. 8-[ Its been once for us...since Sammys been born...lol
Hi Yvette...hope those gorgeous girls of yours are doing fantastically.
Soph hows little Lucie.
Hiya Kitten and Maria
Well...now that ive been first to post..i will step aside and let others in...come and talk pweeeeeeeeeese ladies
Jo :D
-
Hi again Jo! How is Sammy going? He sounds adorable, especially when you take him to school.
Lucie is good. I've come to the conclusion that she just doesn't need much food. She had a shocking week last week and was on a hunger strike for 4 days - and still put on 210g!
-
Oh wow Soph..thats a great weight gain :D
Jo
-
Soph, I had to pop in & tell ya that in 2 wks Indah gained 360g, so Lucie's gain of 210g is more than Indah & I am not worried about her!!!
I read a snippet in Melbourne Child about people who bottle feed & the worry about numbers on the side of the bottles & how breast feeding Mums worry about their milk supply etc... Basically we all stress & worry... But for no real reason... She's gaining weight, so relax now & enjoy her!!!!
-
So true Barley! I sometimes feel that we 'know too much'.... my mum had 4 children under 5 & had never read a parenting book :D She stumbled through it on instict but now, when i have an issue, I have 40 different information resources, 60 options & 1000 ways to do my head in & the truth is, if I am honest with myself, Hunter doesn't know the difference as long as it comes with a smile, cuddle & stupid conversations about puppies & ponies :) :)
Jo I am so please to see you & Sammy (& family) are happy & healthy :D
I havent been posting on BB much..... I have had some pretty tough days over the last few weeks & am just using all my energy to sort it out.... Just a lot of crying/sleeping issues (in the daytime) & there have been times when I just flat out didn't know where to turn. It's a long story but i am booked in for a day at Dalwwod nest week & have been staying in touch with the wonderful ladies at the ECC... I know the answers are just around the corner so I am staying positive.
Hunter is doing great though & such a sweet little boy.... I shouldn't say 'little' because he is 7.2k now.
I'm not depressed but I do find myself getting pretty anxious & emotional when he starts to cry thinking "Is this the beginning of a 5 hour crying/screaming stretch? how am i going to get through it?" I feel trapped sometimes. I am very honest & in no way see this as a reflection on myself or think I am a failure but I am not ashamed to ask for help either. It is just a confusing time we are going through where i am trying to nut out what is best for Hunter.... I know none of that makes sense, it is hard to type out the complexities in 100 words or less IYKWIM.
I like this new thread.... part of what i found so comforting about the Aug Pregnancy thread was getting to know a group of fantastic women who were all going through the same thing at the same time.... the monthly threads changed people so quickly that unless I had an hour to keep track every day & do personals (which I dont) I felt rude just posting about myself because I hadn't kept up.
Storm I was BLOWN AWAY by your being pregnant! I'm so happy for you but yes, like Jo, shocked that you had the time! :D We have only made two (pretty average) attempts at something resembling a normal sex life post Hunter. My 'magic' has yet to return & I didn't realise how true that "Sleep or Sex" dilemma would ring true. Please be sure to do both the Aug baby & Pregnancy Buddie thread....
LOL Soph about Lucie being on a hunger strike.... i know it is no laughing matter though & i hope it evens out for you. Just know that you are doing everything right & the rest will follow.
Maybe I should take my own advice some time..... =;
-
I agree we all worry about how much they are getting. At Gemma's 8 week check she had only put on 200gm in 2 weeks! And you know Gem's not a big eater either, more a snacker really! #-o
-
Aww Mel...i had no idea you were having a tough time of it sweets. I hope things get sorted out for you. It can be so draining being the sole provider for a little person and working out exactly what they want. I have every faith in you hon..you sound like such a dedicated mama. ooohhh....my little boy is awake....Sammy is a terrble sleeper during the day..lol..will only nap for 40 mins then hes up bright as a button. So i have to squeeze as much as i can into these three 40 minute slots during the day. Better go and feed him.
Jo
-
Mel - Hope you can get everything sorted out. Hunter is such a big boy!!!!! You must be getting a good work out carrying him around!
THanks Tracey and Gemma :D
Jo - Lucie has started to stay awake most of the day as well. In fact I only just got her to have a nap - the one big one for the day. She's been grizzly all arvo - tired I think.
-
Soph, that is one of the problems I have.... there is a limited amount of time I can carry him around. My back has not yet recovered from pregnancy it seems & i feel like i am about to break in half after a few minutes. Not so much the carrying but when you add up all the lifting it just gets too much.... he's just a 'hunka luv' :D
nb. I have updated some shots on my website
-
Oh Mel - he is soooooooooooooooo cute!
-
Love the piccies Mel.lol at Hunter being a 'hunka luv'. Its amazing how quickly they grow isnt it. Sammy has grown 11 cm since birth and and was 7.2kg at his 3 month check. It never ceases to amaze me! No wonder they get tired out with all this growing. Has Hunter found his hands? I can just sit and watch Sammy and watch him relish in the delight of having found his hands and sometimes his feet. Its soo cute!
Poor tired Lucie. Hope she sleeps better for you today Soph. I do whisper in Sammys ear that it might be better for him to sleep for longer but he doesnt take any notice..lol.
Well must go and peruse the other forums.
Jo
-
Morning Girls!
Well I think we have to get this thread moving! Hope you are all well. It's going to be a stinker here today. Lucie is already just in her nappy and I'll probably take that off soon and just let her lie in her doghnut on a heap of towels for the day. She just loves being nude!
Jo and Mel - how are you going?
Storm - Hope you are ok matey - thinking of you.
Kitten and Yvette - hope you are both well.
-
Where is everyone :-k ?
Hope you lovely ladies are all ok.
Well I took Lucie to be weighed again today - only a gain of 110g this week. It's Murphy's Law though - she had a really good week eating wise and only put on that much, whereas the week before when she was on a hunger strike she put on 210g! Anything over 100 is ok though isn't it?
-
Hiya ladies.
Soph sounds like a great weight gain. Bubbas do put more weight on some weeks than others. Dont stress honey...you are doing all the right things! I know though how hard it can be not to stress but just trust in yourself. :D
Well we had a lovely weekend busy..but lovely. Emmy had one party to go to, Livvy had two and Jessie had a sleepover. On Sunday it was so nice just to have a nice day and chill. Unfortunately Sammy has a horrible cough and snotty nose the poor darling...though its seems to be bothering me more than him..hes in great spirits.
Hello everyone else..come and talk to us.. :D
Jo
-
Jo - Yeah tell me about it being hard not to stress! Glad Sammy is getting over his cough and snottiness. Do you use one of those snot sucker things? (Sorry I have no idea of the accurate name!) I've used it a couple of times on Lucie and it does a great job. Oh she's woken....
-
Hi Girls
Thought I'd crash the August thread as all the September girls are MIA today!
Jo-Poor Sammy!I hate it when they get the snuffles.Gemma hates it when I use the fess snot sucker on her!
Soph-That weight gain sounds good to me!Lucie is still gaining more weight per week then Gemma is!
Well Gemma has been one sleepy baby today and last night. She slept for a record 8 hours last night and has been sleeping basically all day as well!I think we tired her out on the weekend with all our visits to relies. \:D/
-
Hi Kirsty - I've missed you! How is little Gemma? You must have got a heap of stuff done today! Lucie certainly is more awake during the day now. At 8pm last night she was wide awake, and Mick and I were like 'hey what's going on???'. She's still a slow and little feeder, but I think that's just her. Will see how that goes.
-
Wow Kirsty..thats great sleeping. Bet you feel great today. Can you get Gemma to whisper in Sammys ear..lol. He was up at 12:30, 2 and 4 this morning...and from 4 thought it was play time. :-s Even though he was in bed with us was wriggling and talking away..little munchkin.
Its sooooooooooo quiet in here isnt it.
Soph hope you had a nice day.
Oh im loving this warm weather...its gorgeous.
Jo
-
Morning Jo! Wow you must be tired with all that waking. For the first time ever Lucie woke screaming at 3.30am - I just gave her a cuddle, changed her nappy and she went back to sleep, but it sure was a shock for me! I really sympathise with all your broken sleep (although please don't punch me - I don't really know what it's like!). Hope last night was a bit better for you.
-
LOL Jo!Gemma does the same thing sometimes at 4.30am and I can hear her in her cot talking away.We have a baby monitor with a camera and Corey has it rigged up through the tv in our room.I watch her when she starts talking and she has normally managed to wriggle her way up the middle of the cot, turned herslf sideways and has her feet up the side of the cot!Now at this age I thought that would be impossible, but obviously not!And she has no blankets on and starts to whinge cause shes cold.I go in and she gets super excited!I normally bring her back to bed with us also.I LOVE it when she falls asleep pressed up against my boobies!!She looks soooo funny!!
I had to laugh at your post to Soph about not knowing what its like to have broken sleep!I promise I won't hurt you!!
-
Good morning ladies :D
I am really enjoying this weather too.... I just love the little oics in your tickers, i must ask DH to organise one for me.
We are off to sleep school at Dalwood today but were supossed to be there by 9am. I find it ironic that the only time Hunter sleeps in the daytime is when I have something specific planned around a wake time. ](*,)
Wish me luck & have a beautiful fantasmagorical day! :D
-
Mel - Hope that sleep school is successful for you! What happens there? Do they show you how to put them to sleep?
Kirsty - Wow Gemma is such an active bub! Lucie is still in the position we leave her in - except she throws her legs up and kicks them around.
-
Mornin ladies
Mel all the best for sleep school. Hope it goes well for you. Is it an overnight visit or a day thing? You will have to let us in on any tips that you learn lol.
Kirsty..Gem sure is active. Sammys gotten into the habit of not wanting any blankets on either in his cot so will kick and kick until they are all off. He doesnt move around much though. I love the early morning cuddles too..love them more when he snuggles in to me and goes to sleep.though..hehe. Sounds like a great baby monitor too. I love when bubbies get so excited to see you and their little legs and arms wave around . Its just magic.
Hiya Soph hows precious girl today. I wont punch you..promise O:) It really doesnt bother me that much anyway.
Oh i hear a little fella stirring so best go
talk soon
Jo
-
Hi Jo! Lucie is going ok - slow on feeding at the moment, but hey, that's the story of my life LOL!
How big is Sammy now? He must be HUGE!
Is anyone else trying to do the E.A.S.Y thing - I just got the Baby Whisperer book (by Tracey Hogg) and am giving it a try......
-
Please excuse my ignorance/dumbness(LOL) but what is the E.A.S.Y thing?
I don't mind the gettin up in the middle of the night thing either Jo.Gemma's always so excited to see me....how could you get mad at that! :D
Goodluck at sleep school Melody!
Geez its quiet in the September thread again! And pretty quiet in here too............(I'm like the permanent gate crasher!) #-o
-
Lol @ gatecrasher Kirsty..gatecrash anytime..seems like we need the company lol.
Awww Soph..maybe shes gonna be a slow feeder as a bub and be a big eater later on!. Sammy was 7.2 at his three month check a couple of weeks back...so hes definately slowing down the weight gain. If its any consolation I still worry about how much Sammy is getting and ive done this 3 times before! :-s Like Kirsty I dont know the EASY routine either..fill us in Soph
Jo
-
Kirsty we love having you here!
And Jo, really, Sammy is such a big boy I don't think you have anything to worry about!
Ok so I have just started reading the book, but it stands for:
Eat
Activity
Sleep
You time
Basically it says that after a feed, to play for a while (ummm not sure how long yet, I think 20 mins to half an hour) and then put them down for a sleep for 1.5 to 2 hours! There's a special technique to get them to sleep too. All quite interesting, and it's all about putting them into a routine. I'll fill you in as I learn more!
-
Geez Soph thats so weird cause Gemma is already doing this and I thought she is sleeping to much!!!!!!After a feed she plays till I notice that her eyeballs are about to fall out or she starts yawning then I pick her up a hug her tight and close and put the dummy in.Sometimes she whinges(ok most times 8-[ ) but she falls asleep within about 5 mins.Just a question.....so how much were your bubs napping during the day at 2-3 months?
-
Well there you go Kirsty - you are a natural! As you know Lucie is miss sleepy head, and up until recently would be sleeping most of the day too. Lately though ther ehave been days when she has been awake all day, but I'm trying to now get her in the habit of having a nap between feeds.
One interesting thing that made me think of you Kirsty (and don't be mad, just thought it would be helpful!) was that it talks about bubs 'snacking', and I was wondering if this is sometimes what Gemma does? But sounds like she is a very good baby anyway so I don't think there is much to change!
-
I reckon shes a snacker Soph(like I'd ever get mad at you!).She has feeds 3-4 hourly during the day sometimes 2.5 between one of those feeds and only takes maybe 60-80ml.Why what does it say?good or bad?Oh now I'm worried!
-
Got a snacker here too Soph..what does it say 8-[
Jo
-
Ok Jo and Kirsty let me see what it says - basically it's talking about looking for actual hunger queues and that you want bub to take full feeds isteadof snacking. Ok hang on, I'll quote a bit:
If the baby isn't on a structured routine, the parents confuse their baby's needs to suckle with hunger. Instead of giving her a dummy between meals, they give her the breast or bottle.....they can get into the habit of snacking.
How you know: Your baby is 3kg or more and doesn't last more than 2.5-3 hours between feeds or she never takes more than a few ml or 10 minutes of breast at each feed.
There is quite a bit more about it. I'll read it all and summarise for you! I'm not sure I'll ever be able to get Lucie to sleep 1.5 hours between feeds now though.
-
Oh ok thanks for that Soph..very interesting. I tend to think Sammy is just a piggy though LOL :D
Jo
-
Hi Girls
I haven't posted up until now because Maria has been extra clingy during the day. Yesterday and today she would only sleep if I was in bed with her or in my arms, very tiring for me, but lots of extra cuddles as well.
I went to the sleep and settling class last week, got some good techniques and they work at night (very similar to EASY) but not during the day as yet.
So other than the fact that I have another cold (and sore throat) all is well. I will be making my first solo long car trip on Friday, I am going to Canberra and then Forbes the next day, prob about 10 hours of travelling due to all the stops with Maria, but I am looking forward to getting home for 5 days.
-
Hi Louise! Hope you are feeling better. The sleep school sounds great! Good luck with the long car trip. We were going to drive down to Melbourne (from Brisbane), but have decided that DH will still drive but Lucie and I will fly. It's quite a bit longer than your trip though! It's actually probably cheaper for us too - DH will just sleep in the car on theway down instead of having to find hotels, and the airfare only cost us $100!
Jo - Yeah he's just a big hungry boy! Throw some appetite this way please LOL.
Well Lucie usually poohs at 5am like clockwork, but no action as yet today. Hope she isn't constipated. If she hasn't gone by tonight, I'll give her some sugar water.
-
Sleep school was great. Basic principles….â€if you PLAY you can STAY†meaning if baby gets out of bed & is alert, responsive, calm & able to play on his own he has had enough sleep & can stay up heading toward the next feed. “If you CRY it’s GOODBYE†so barring the fact that baby has a dirty nappy, is due for a feed or close to a hunger time frame, or has been ‘playing’ on the same thing for too long & has grown bored (short attention span) any sign of grizzling (tired signs) baby must be put back to bed & given the opportunity to sleep.
Not to be afraid of putting baby back to bed even if he has only been up for 30 minutes. (as long as there is no feeding due, soiled nappy etc) & that sleeping is like catching a bus. Baby works on 45min sleep ‘cycles’ & the reason he cries is because he may not have had the opportunity to ‘catch’ the last sleep cycle so he will cry until the next one comes around…. Much like if you miss the bus you have to stand at the bus stop & wait for the next one to arrive, and then jump on. Sleep cycles don’t start when you lay a baby down; they are an inbuilt rhythm specific to the baby.
Similar to the EASY strategy, baby *should* wake up, have assisted, stimulating play with mummy, feed, then play alone until ‘tired signs’ begin to show & then be put back into bed. The amount of sleep a baby has during the day does not effect night-time sleep (at Hunters age) because the sleep day/night patterns are different.
Overall the women were lovely…. I spoke to a councellor about odd feelings that I get sometimes regarding Hunter & mother-hood in general & I left feeling happy that I am completely normal, if somewhat stressed & pressured, & everything is fine. Hunter weighs 7.6k now so he is thriving & I have some new strategies to work with….. I didn’t go expecting miracles & there were none performed but I feel refreshed & renewed.
Soph "The Baby Whisperer" sounds great.... I will have to look for a copy of that.
Louise good luck on your first solo car trip.... I am such a nervous driver! You are a bit of a Guru tackling that on your own :) I hope that icky throat goes away soon.
Jo Sammy is just such a cutie!
Kirsty I would get too worried.... as soon as Gemma establishes a rythm she will change it.... whatever slightly 'odd/bad' thing is going on it will have changed next week :D snacking, sleeping etc. Just to keep you on your toes \:D/
-
Mel - Wow that sleep school sounds fantastic. Glad you found it worthwhile.
Shannon - Yeap I had heard that re reflux babies too. Unfortunately my bub just isn't keen on eating full stop!
Well poor Lucie was very constipated. She loves the sugar water though - wow I wish she liked formula that much and then she would be so porky! I am not joking though and sorry if this is TMI, but I would have cried doing that pooh!
-
Maria woke at 3.30am this morning and I think she was trying to do a poo but it still hasn't arrived (TMI?), what is the sugar water? She is breast feed only. DH and I sended up putting her in bed with us and attaching her to the boob. We must have got some sleep because we didn't get out of bed until 8.30am. (DH late for work but how can you compare work with extra cuddles from baby, he woke to her patting his face). Hopefully she will sleep today for more than 30 minutes at a time.
I think Maria might be a bit of a snacker as well because I am lucky to get her to have 3 hours between feeds during the day, usually 2 hours only.
-
Louise - I'm not sure but I think it's rare for breast fed babies to get constipated. Sugar water is just brown sugar dissolved in cooled boiled water (I do about 1/2tsp to 50ml of water, but I think it's usually 30mls). It just helps to loosen things up a bit - and believe me Lucie needs that at the moment!
