I love the idea of a seafood christmas lunch in the our hot summer. But my DH doesn't like seafood and my PIL love the traditional turkey and pork. So it will be a hot lunch for us again.

I'm a sucker for traditional Manta, but that's cos my aunty does a GREAT one.
If I was the one putting it on, it'd be seafood, or a something less traditional I suspect. :D
We definately do a lot of cold seafood, salad, meats etc, but also throw a few kiddy faves in there too (spring rolls, sausage rolls, fries etc).
Up here it's often in the high 30s on Christmas Day, and no-one really feels like hot food at lunch time LOL
we do a great roast meal - though my bro compromises and has a small amount of seafood for him and DH to snack on before lunch!
We have the seafood feast. mmmmmmm can't wait! We have roasts with all the trimmings often throughout the year, so i really look forward to the seafood. We get Crayfish from King Island and order lots of other seafood from local fish monger.
We do always have a ham though! Poached eggs, mustard and ham for breaky, that's our family tradition.
With my family traditional with all the trimmings.
Dh family tends to be salmon on bbq with salads and roast potatoes or mash!
i hate seafood apart from fish!
We have both! Freshly cooked marron and prawns, along with roast lamb and pork and all the trimmings, that way everyone can eat what they like!
We usually do cold seafood but this year I really want to do a roast so we have decided to do that and have prawns too.
We have a cold Christmans lunch, but rarely do we have seafood. Sometime DH does like to get prawns if he can. We have a good ham, smoked turkey breast, salads and trifle. The only thing hot is the Christmas pudding.
My mum used to do the roast turkey with all the trimmings. I find it easier to not really have to cook on the day. We can prepare a lot the day before, but really there is not much to do. DH makes the trifle, so I do not have to worry about that. I wouldn't mind adding a pav to the day.
We do both. Seafood for starters and then BBQ roast meats and all the trimmings! DH is a sucker for turkey so he'd die if we didn't have it!
Seafood here. I looove seafood and luckily so do my family. I am going to be at mum and Dad's for Christmas this year so they will lay on a huge spread. Whole baked barrimundi (sp) prawns, crabs yummo. We usually also have a ham and heaps of salads and my favourite stone fruit.
Everyone is usually too full for sweets but mum makes a mean fruit cake with brandy custard or another fav is pavlova.
I'm drooling just thinking about it.
Oh and another must is lots of bubbly.....
We have always done the traditional roast pork, turkey, chicken with all the trimmings but do have prawn ****tails for entree and usually a bit of seafood brought out for dinner!
Great idea for a thread!
My family has always done a cold Christmas lunch i.e. seafood, cold cuts, salads and fruit. DH's family have always done the traditional hot roast.
Last year we celebrated Christmas at our house so I decided to do a cold lunch, as this was my family tradition and I was the one doing all the cooking. Should have seen the look on MIL's face when I told her there was no turkey....
Oh I forgot to add.. Mum and I ALWAYS cook a ham on Christmas Eve which we eat cold over the Xmas/New Year week. We've done it every year since I can remember!
Once apon a time it was a seafood lunch...
Now i dont live in the same state our Xmaz lunch is normally...Hmmm Mc Donalds:redface:
But this year we are crashing our friends xmaz and they are having seafood and the usual turkey/ham/chicken!
I would do a bit of both , one side of my family like seafood and the other half love roast turkey, pork etc. hard to keep them happy :wall:
ooohhhh hot traditional here!! though my mum wants to change to something easier, but hey its once a year big sha-bang!!
ive already made the pudding and its in the fridge!
AJP you MUST share your pudding recipe :D
We do the big roast turkey (on the weber) and all the trimmings. Usually have a prawn and smoked salmon starter too.
double post
for you miss cai!!
christmas pudding
375g seeded raisins
250g currants
185g chopped mixed peel
90g blanched almonds chopped
250g soft white bread crumbs
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp mixed spice
3/4 cup milk
1/2 cup brandy
1 cup orange juice (approx)
250g butter melted
375g sultanas
185g prunes
grated rind of 1 lemon
1 large carrot grated
250g raw sugar
125g plain flour
1/2 tsp nutmeg
4 eggs
mix all dry ingrediants, whisk eggs, cooled melted butter, milk, brandy and juice, add to dry ingrediants and mix, fill the mixture into large basin. im not sure how big our basin is
sorry it was nana's! makes around a 2kg pudding though!
Cover pudding top with a circle of baking paper. Cover with a double layer of foil. Secure with unwaxed kitchen string (make sure handle across the top is not too tight, or it will leave indentations). Fold the foil up over the string to ensure it doesn't touch the water during cooking.
Place a trivet or upturned saucer in the bottom of a large saucepan. Stand basin on top. Pour in enough boiling water to reach halfway up sides of basin. Cover saucepan with lid and boil over medium-high heat for 6 hours, adding more boiling as required
i also make my custard on the morning from scratch!!
in loving memory of my nana!
We do a seafood buffet and cold ham, salads etc and trifle for dessert.
My stepdad goes crazy with seafood - we do oysters (natural and kilpatrick), crab, bugs, prawns, marinated calimari and grilled fish. Washed down with lots of cold beer :D
I lurrrrve Christmas :D
Gee guys, now you're making me hungry LOL!! AJP, that recipe sounds divine.
