I haven't read htem either but i *think* they're about teenage vampires. A friend of mine raves about the books.
Tinkerbell is right, they are about teen vamps - a movie has just come out based on the book.
It was an alright read, I have read better about vampires but thats just my opinion
I hadn't even heard about them until the movie, so they can't be that much of a MUST read.
These books are absolutely ALL I've heard about for the last... well as long as I can remember!!! (All of this year, anyway!)
Being a piano teacher to stacks of teenage girls - its all I've heard about every half hour of every week day since they got released
I bought myself the first one (Twilight) months ago - figured I needed to see what all the fuss was about ;), plus its always good to have something to talk about with the kids I'm teaching.
I'm in 3 monthly book groups though, so average a book a week to keep up with them - the Twlight book has sat on my book shelf now for waaay too long!
Picked it up last weekend & am nearly done - will definately be over the next day or 2.
I can understand the hype - its a little exciting for me as a 31yr old, so I can understand the obsession for girls half my age ;)
Apparently the last one is not as good as the other 3 - and according to all of my students, the movie is a tragedy (aren't movies based on books always though?!) - they're all so disappointed in the film.
I have to admit, when I was a teen, the rave books were the Virginia Andrews ones (Flowers In The Attic, Heaven, etc) - and they were obsessive, incestual & addictive ;).... I think the Twilight series & the Harry Potter books are nicer for teens than what I was reading at their age
If you're a reader, Amy, they're worth the read... its an easy read, and its nice to be lost in the easy world of a teenager again (which is how I feel when I'm reading it!)
I'm a big reader - which is why I don't get how I missed this!!
Vampires isn't usually my thing - I was never into Buffy or Angel etc. I might give it a go - I absolutely loved the fantasy of the Harry Potter books when they came out so I may enjoy these. I just feel so out of the loop!
I've started it, had it for a few months just haven't had the time. Everyone I know is reading them or read them, that and the wicked books (and all the other adult fairy tales). Its a very easy read thats for sure. But it does get you hooked.
I saw on reddit that you could easily replace the chick with a piece of cake (as he's falling in love with his food, LOL) and it was pretty funny ;)
ETA: It is more like HP in the writing style than in the Anne Rice novels, which is making it difficult for me to read as I'm finding it too easy iykwim. A few stating the obvious things have given me the irrits but I have to remember its written for teens just as HP was.
omg Amy read it!! lol.
I am addicted.
I'm not really into fantasy really (except Harry Potter) and when I heard about it I was like, 'a book about vampires, no thanks!'. But I am hooked.
Some bits are a bit corny but I love it. I agree, the movie was pretty crappy tho, don't see it before you read the book!!
I don't know how you missed it either, all 4 books have been in the top 10 for ages!!
I have read all of the series and I really like them. I couldn't put them down. I really enjoyed the movie too. I thought it was a good adaptation. I usually don't like movies of books I have read
I started reading these a couple weeks ago. Twilight is fantastic, couldn't put it down and i am on the 2nd of 4 series New Moon. Can't wait to see the movie.
LOL Amy, thanks for starting this thread, I just heard about Twilight a few days ago... books, a movie... i thought i had missed something really obvious. But now i know its not me!
Might give the books a go.
Hmmm. I'd never heard of it either! Maybe i'll have to give them a go too. Im not into fantasy either though, not even Harry Potter. Although i haven't even looked at a HP book.
TT - Pick up a Harry Potter book!!!! My favourite!
Sooo, the big question? Do you fancy Edward or Jacob?
i read an interview with the author where she said the Jacob fanciers were rarer than the Edward fanciers and TBH I just don't get that. What is there not to like about Jacob? He's waaay hotter than Edward lol.
Edward!!
Ok I think I need to read the books now. I'll let you know if I am a Jacob or Edward girl after Xmas ;)
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I started reading yesterday and I am already OBSESSED :D
I even took myself off to see the movie today - I just had to see it even though I hadn't finished the book. Completely and utterly emersed in the book and can't wait to read them all!!
And ummm - I have a crush BIGTIME on Edward Cullen - YUM
I thought it was awful... however I really am hanging out for the next book now that I don't have it.
I'm a sucker for love stories but this really didn't do it for me. I didn't find her to be a particularly talented writer and as much as it had potential it justr didnt achieve in my books.
Maybe the sequels will prove to be more satisfying.
The movie was so~so as well but I expected that I guess.
Well I really must have been living under a rock.... I love my books, but this is all new to me! I think I need to pick up a copy and start reading!
No idea here either LOL. I don't get to read much anymore now.
DD who is 17 has all 3 books and has seen the movie twice, she is obsessed with it all!!
My GF got me into it and took me along to see the movie and I loved it! I know have the book and love reading it after seeing the movie.
Edward is hot, hot, hot (even in his pasty makeup!!!).
Jacob will feature more in the other books I think, can see something happening there. He is pretty cute too!!
I've read the first two books, had to see what all the fuss was about.
Hmmm...the story is entertaining enough but like Cai, I find it a bit frustrating at times, I have to remind myself it was written for teenagers. I read the first book in 1.5 days and the second in a day  It lacks depth for me but I still want to find out what happens so will finish the series.
I'm starting New Moon today and I also bought Breaking Dawn - Eclipse was sold out everywhere so I'll go on the hunt for it tomorrow as I'm guessing I'll read New Moon in a day!
Absolutely loving the read - it makes me feel like I'm 17 again!
lol Amy, yay!!! It hooks you doesn't it!!
I finished New Moon!!
I found it hard to relate to Jacob while Edward was gone and it really frusterated me!!!... now I cant wait to see what happens next! I'll buy Eclipse tomorrow and then onto the finale. I'm completely hooked - I think it's a fantastic story! It's my style of writing so I'm relating a lot.
I agree Willow, it lacked depth but was well-written for its target market and a great brain candy read.
Cailin, I wouldn't compare Wicked, etc with Twilight at all. Wicked (and others by Gregory Maguire) has far more substance and cleverness and far less teenage sexual tension! LOL
Just finished Breaking Dawn and loved it! Actually kind of sad that I've finished the books!
Really enjoyed every single word. I'm also completely in love with Edward Cullen :D
Oh, I was so sad when it was all over too :(
I love Edward!
My thoughts exactly!!
AmySarah- So glad you like them!
MelS- wait until you read what happens with Jacob!!! Very interesting storylines there!! I wont spoil it for you.
I am in love with these books! Do you know the whole story came to her in a dream and she thought, that would make a great story. Wish I had dreams like that!
There is so much sexual tension in the books! Its incredible how she writes.
I thought the characters were fantastic! Who would have thought..."Vegetarian vampires"!!!
The guy who played Edward Cullen in the movie is from Harry Potter (He was the one who got killed by Valdermolt in the maze challenge) for anyone who is interested. I am in love with him
I absolutely LOVE these books!
I am definietly an Edward fan, but i really like Jacob too. He is such a nice character.
But I would go for Edward... MMM... I'm in love with Edward Cullen!
I thought the movie was ok. It wasn't the best, but they did get some things right. I think they captured the tension between Edward and Bella quite well. Just before they kissed was OMG filled with tension! But there are just some things that you can't get across in a movie the way you can in a book.
I thought that Carslile was perfectly cast. I think he was the only one who was spot on. Edward was ok, but not as good as the Edward in my head... I also thought Bella was good.
I really loved the scene in the kitchen where they were cooking for Bella. I thought it was great. It didn't happen in the book, but i thought it was a good addition!
I am looking forward to seeing the next movie to see what they do with that.
I thought Rob Pattinson was DREAMY as Edward Cullen. YUM :D
Hi- Im nearlly finished New Moon, and I know I'll be disappointed not having t he next two books, cause around here all the bookshops are sold out! I know these books are written for a teenage market, but Ive found the fact that they're such an easy read half of the appeal. ATM Im so dog tired with my two kids, I just couldnt concentrate on anything complex.
Have been a bit disappointed with the absence of Edward in the second book though, I need my fix...can't wait to see the movie too. ;)
Beaksie - I read an interview with the Author that said she urged people to read New Moon twice - because readers were so anxious for Edward to return that they missed heaps of important parts of the book.
You'll love Eclipse and Breaking Dawn - I was so lucky to get them without having to wait. They are sold out everywhere here too!!
Jump on the Stephenie Meyer website - lots of "deleted scenes" and cool things about each book - but don't read about the next ones until you've read the books - lots of spoilers!!!!
*puts up hand sheepishly* I am obessed with twilight!
Amy i too feel 17 again! I must say too it has brought back a spark in DH and my relationship lol! Yes the books lack depth and are written for teenagers but i like to escape reality and these books are perfect! I never understood when people spoke of falling in love with book characters untill i read this series! I am a harry potter fan too but twilight is a bit more "adult" loved all the sexual tension!
I think i had read the whole series in a week  DH was ready to slap me out of my twilight zone cause nothing was getting done! Any time Myles was sleeping i would be reading lol!
Eclipse did frustrate me a bit and i think i did read it too quick so have started reading them all again!
The movie was so so, I think it took too long at the start and rushed all the good bits! But hey Edward made up for that *drool*
There is a website called twilightmoms and the paragraph about why your a twilight mum described me to a tea lol
Really hopeing the next movie is more like the book! But the movies are never as good as the books!
So glad you liked them Amy! Finally I can come out of hiding and discuss them :)!
OMG, I HAVE a teenage Bella and she loves all the books and seen the movie 5 times.
 When we were planning our trip to the US in September I did up an itinerary to travel to Washington State and Oregon - so I could go to Forks, La Push and Port Angeles and visit the film locations in Oregon.
As soon as DH realised what I was doing he put a quick stop to it!! He said there was noway he was flying all the way to the US to go on some "Twilight Road Trip". Needless to say, I was devastated!!
I'll just have to try and spot Rob Pattinson in LA while I'm there :D
Kidnap him Amy so we can have him here :
I'll just have to try and spot Rob Pattinson in LA while I'm there
I too have thought of going to USA just for that reason ! Obsessed much lol!
DH is fully aware that I would leave him in a second for Rob Pattinson - he has been warned...
Oh and Lulu - that is way cool that you have your very own Bella!
