Notes: Harrison was born by emergency caesarian after 10 hours or active induced labor and 1 hour of pushing. Harrison turned into the posterior position after the induction commenced and his head would just not come through on his own.

Think I'll stay in here too! Having a great time now that we are home. Only issue so far is Kahlani having reflux which she is now on Zantac for (gotta love my on the ball GP and paed). Whilst she doesn't like the taste it certainly is helping her pain.

Waiting patiently for Lolly and Narelle's news.

Teena and Bek, it is really great that you both will stay with the Feb thread!! wohoo!

Just popping back in to say hi and goodnight. I'm buggered and want to get an hour in before the next feed.

OK OK I'm here. Sorry had a little sleep to catch up on. Hope you ladies are doing well and are coping with being new mums. I am finding it very tiring but enjoyable. Wow what a steep learning curve. I think I am starting to get the hang of the breastfeeding thing. It was a lot harder to master than I originally thought it would be but we are getting there. I have had to go back to the Dr a few times since being discharged from hospital because there have been a few issues with my blood pressure not coming back down. I am not on any medication for it yet we are just waiting to see what happens. At least the swelling in my feet has decided to go away this morning and my tummy is starting to return to normal. Can’t fit into my normal clothes yet but I think it won’t be far away. I didn’t think about button up maternity clothes when I bought them (for feeding) so I can’t really go anywhere because I have to take my top right off to feed him lol.

Can someone tell me how I go about uploading some photos of him?

Lolly, There are many ways you can share your pics. I have decided to use myphotoalbum. Its really simple and easy to use, and you can change the background colours and stuff (and free). You just follow the steps to set it up. Email me if you would like the link, because i cant put it in here. Ive found it to be really simple and handy.

I cant imagine being able to fit into my normal clothes... My thighs and bum have gotten much bigger! Might have to walk a bit (or ALOT) when this is all over. Hopefully my tops will fit me though, although i dont have many button up, or zip up tops like you! might have to go shopping!

I hope your blood pressure cooperates and returns to normal. Can you believe that if you werent induced that little Harrison might still be in your tummy right now!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Kahlani has put on another 300g this week to now weigh 2.66kgs! Unfortunately the monitor went off again this morning after I had out her down from her feed. All OK when I picked her up though so maybe we have the settings wrong?

How's it all going Teena, Narelle and Lolly?

Hi new mums. Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing night sweats. I seem to have them but get them at any time of the day. I am starting to understand what it must be like for women going through menopause with the hot flushes. My Dr said that it is normal for woman after pregnancy who have been carrying a lot of excess fluid as it is your bodies way of getting rid of it. I didn’t think to ask him how long it would go on for though and was wondering if anyone else new or was experiencing the same thing.

Good news is my blood pressure has now come back down to normal and seems to be staying there so the head aches have now gone.

My little man is doing really well, the community nurse is coming tomorrow and I am really eager to see if he is putting on weight. I’m sure he is because I think he is looking bigger every time I look at him. He is a really good feeder. We are taking him to have some photos taken today by one of those professional baby photo people. Then off to see his great grandmother who is 96 for the first time.

Community nurse came this morning and I am pleased to say Harrison has but on 40gm above his birth weight which is great. She was very nice and answered all of my questions. She also put me in touch with a mothers group which is starting up in a few weeks time for babies around the same age. I must admit I am kind of looking forward to having some adult conversation again.

Had a bit of a rough night last night. The little man just didn’t want to settle. He was awake from about 10pm till 1am. He was fine while he was getting a cuddle but as soon as I put him in his cot he would wake up and start to cry. The nurse said this is normal and that it is usual for babies to have an unsettled period between one of their feeds. Now all I have to do is work out how to get the unsettled period to happen during the day rather than night so I can get a bit more sleep.

Hope all the other bubs and mums are doing well. We need some more Feb mums in hear it is way to quite.

Very quiet in here Lolly. I find Kahlani's unsettled time is after 7pm but that's also the time when we have to give her the Zantac for her reflux. It's not really that bad though.

With the night sweats I only noticed it in hospital and put it down to their heating/cooling system and having to keep the SCN at a constant temp.

Hi Feb mumma's!

Been pretty busy and every time I go to write a post it seems Allegra gets up and is due for a feed!

Things are going pretty well in our household. Allegra is sleeping pretty well, between 3-4 hours at a time usually and is feeding wonderfully now after her slow start.

Settleing.. sometimes it is better than other times but they all have times of unsettled behaviour dont they! Last night Allegra was awake from 10pm to about midnight which is unlike her but we had been out all day and she slept in her portable bassinette so I think that made her a little extra tired and a bit irritable.

So bloody hard to get out and do all the things that need to be done but today I went to Medicare and enrolled Allegra, did the baby bonus paperwork and claimed the expenses I have paid to date, OB, Paediatrian etc.. was happy that I got a fair bit back as we were over the threshold so yay for that. I was expecting far less back than we got!

Will come in more regularly and chat.

Meanwhile, does anyone elses bub have a lot of wind?

Hi girls...i can finally join you in here [-o<

Things are going well so far...today much better then yesterday (day 3) where we had constant feeding...ouchies on the boobies...and a night where I saw every hour go by...yep feeding again.

My milk came in yesteday too which may be why things were unsettled...today she is sleeping like a baby should and feeding well, so I cant complain too much.

Apart from that motherhood is treating me ok...mr 2 is a bit of a handful and stressing me out but its all new to him too and thats what I have to keep reminding myself.

Night sweats...yep I got them in hospital too and also blamed the air con but have noticed that I am sweating heaps at home too and the weather hasnt been that bad?? Maybe its the breastfeeding??? I am normally not a sweaty type of person and havent been able to breastfeed before so maybe the two go hand in hand??

Well I checked into the feb group today and it seems labour is very close for a few girls today...my best speedy labour wishes to Nadine, Wilson and Kaydee...cmon babies O:)

Princess today is the first day that I can say I have had time to myself...lol so jumped in here so I could talk babies...lol I did all the medicare paperwork last night and the centrelink stuff too...we have a friend who works there and reckons she can get the payment done in 48 hours??? that would be lovely me says...lol Cant wait so i can go and buy my new pram...YAY

as for wind...well Katie gives me burps every now and then...doesnt seem to be affecting her too much right now...she has had a few pukes tho too???

When do I start going to the MACH nurse?? so far I have my midwife visiting everyday for 2 weeks...I have no idea if Katie has put on weight or not??

Bruky - when I was at medicare yesterday they said you get the refund in 2 days and the baby bonus should be paid within 28 days.

Centrelink told us that the Maternity Payment (ie the $3K) takes no longer than 21 days....BUT having that friend of mine work there she said she can have it paid to us in 48 hours...she sms'd me last night confirming it...BUT will wait and see if its there tomorrow or Friday too IYKWIM 8-[

How are you all going with feeding???

I feel like I dont stop but I dont want to complain as I had probs with the last 2 and from memory havent lasted 10 days before??? My nipples are going ok but sore, not cracked yet...my boobs are so huge and full...ouchies. Main pain is when she first latches on...i cringe a bit but it eases off pretty quickly

Sometimes I feel like I havent stopped feeding for hours and I'm not sure when she has finished as she will fall asleep on me all the time...i wake her up by tickling her cheek or changing her bum or undressing her and she usually goes on again (she tends to feed for 10mins then falls asleep then I wake her and try again) but sometimes this isnt enough and she can just keep repeating the pattern...like last night it went on like that for 3 hours...very tired mummy here!

My midwife told me to offer as I do but if she keeps going to put her on her side and rythmically pat her back slowly as she might be overtired...this did work but only for about 15 minutes when she woke up to be starving again??

I might need to talk to a LC about it???

Any ideas girls?

FYI, I know someone who got their baby bonus within 4 days; whereas it took three weeks + for ours. The 'tax time' money is $600 per child regardless of your family income is it not? The $600 is pro-rated depending on when your child is born during the financial year. ie. Maddy was born in December, so we will get about $300 this year; and the full $600 for her next financial year.

Yes the payments are mega confusing.. part a and part b... heheheh I'll have to check every couple of days to see how long the bonus takes to go into our account!!

There's also one called the Baby Bonus...thats the one you claim through your tax return...I think its up to $500 or was when I had Jordan anyway

Its not to be confused with the $600 per child or FTA or FTB...thats a different thing altogether

I was working full time the financial years before Jordi and after I had him I didnt work fo 6 months so my income was not the same over the 2 years so I got the Baby Bonus of $493 at the time as my income had dropped??? Not sure if I am explaining it correctly but its all there on the ATO site...will see what I can find...but its all different things


Shannon - hiya \:D/ she loves sleeping with me, we have had a much better day...even got a 3 hour sleep then she woke up and over 2 hours had 2 feeds off each boob, then play and bath and is back in bed, so maybe she is just working it all out...I hope so anyway

Haven’t been on line much lately. Been to busy but was determined to spend the day at home today taking it easy. It is amazing how much the interrupted sleep takes it out of you. We had a really busy day yesterday because I took Harrison into work to show him off and then went out to dinner with our old neighbors. We didn’t get home till midnight so very tired this morning. DP looked after Harrison this morning after the feed so I could get a few hours catch up sleep which I really needed.

We have had a few offers on our house which is for sale which is promising. Nothing that we are willing to accept yet but it is getting closer so fingers crossed. We went to an open house on the weekend and saw a really nice house which we would love to buy but don’t want to commit to it until our house in Sydney is sold. God I hope it is still available when we are finally in a position to do something about it or I will be disappointed.

Still getting the night sweats. My swelling had pretty much gone so I don’t know why I’m still sweating so much I’m not normally a sweaty person, maybe it does have something to do with breast feeding.

I still have to fill out the baby bonus form. I have registered his birth and lodged the Medicare form in when I claimed all of our medical expenses but the I am only half way through the baby bonus form. You have all motivated me so I will try to finish it off this afternoon.

As for wind, Harrison gives me big burps after most feeds and he farts like a trooper. I have only had 2 times when he had had wind pains but have managed to get the wind out of him through either or both ends after a few min of burping and patting him.

Kayla is doing well. We had a bit of an unsettled night last night. She wantd to suck all the time, so I have tried out the dummy today, and it has so far worked a treat. Lets hope my nipples can recover now :)

We will be going back to the hospital tomorrow for a check up on Kayla's jaundice, just to make sure her levels are not rising.

Mum is here at the moment and will be staying for a week, so she is doing all the houswork and cooking, which helps heaps.

Adam is at work this week and then has 4 weeks off from next week.

Thought I better pop in and say Hi, things have been pretty full on for me. Had some major problems with breastfeeding and that kept me busy busy busy.

I had one good boob and one that was slowly getting worse, no matter what I did I couldnt get the attachment right so each feed was going downhill in a hurry.

Katie was taking up to 5 hours to feed at times where she would feed fall asleep I would wake her up and then we would go again then i would try to settle her in bed but she would just wake up screaming for another feed within 10-15 minutes so the whole process started again...this mainly happened at night but then she started doing it in the daytime too...I couldnt get anything else done cause all I was doing was feeding, the stress was really getting to me.

I went and bought some nipple shields on Sunday as we were heading out to the show...She had one feed on my bad boob with the shield before we left which worked well so I thought great =D> problem fixed...but NOOOO whilst at the show it was feed time so I put her on the bad boob first with the shield...wouldnt take it, so I took the shield off and thought just do it!! She wouldnt take that either cause she was getting blood so switched to the good boob, it took 32 attempts for her to latch on properly and start sucking (this was another new trick she was pulling on me over the last few days)...she would go on then pull a face and then let go???? I had done nothing different than to before, no creams or soap on my nipples so i dont know what it was she didnt like the taste of.

So here I am with a screaming baby, me in tears once again (fairly common over the last few days with all this fussing around and long feeds) in public and DH finally said "thats enough she goes on the bottle"

All the way home I beat myself up over it...thats now 3 children that I just cant seem to feed properly but at the same time I felt so much pressure lift off my shoulders. I really did try to get through the pain of it all but the long feeds really did me in and the top of my nipple just hanging there was the final straw for me. That was sunday and still now its a mess.

I think I have done the right thing, I'm upset that it didnt work but I dont have the guilts...as DH pointed out we already have 2 extremely healthy children that were bottle fed and the main thing is happy mommy = happy baby.

Oh and she is now sleeping and settling...only awake for about an hour and back to sleep which is what newborns should do....lol

SO thats what has been happening with me...I hope you are all going well with babies in arms and they are sleeping and being good lil angels for you O:)

Just thought i'd pop in as well and say hi looks like i'm not alone with the unsettled bubs which is good, hard to type though as harry is asleep in my lap, hasn't slept all morning...so i'm not game to move.
last night was our best night so far hubby settled him and i got some sleep and just fed was much better, we had an all nighter the other night as well which wasn't fun. But getting there slowly, getting used to having no sleep more now i think :)

he poops and pees like a little trooper, and is really just lovely, i love being a mum!!

Anyways better be off, will pop in more often once we figure it all out a bit more hehe

We're back, with baby in tow. No time to post now, but I amn good (though a little sore after an epsiotimy and forceps) and Bonnie is doing really well. Still working on settling her at night as she's much better at sleeping in the say time, damn it!
Boobs are tender and sore, but I *think* her attatchment is ok. Bruky, so sorry to hear the dramas you had, I can understand the frsutration, and we are not having the same amount of stress. I was crying before when she wouldn't suck - just put her mouth on and looked at me! So hard!

Firstly CONGRATS to all of you on your new arrivals :confetti:

just thought i would introduce myself. Technically i am a March buddy but i knew all along that my little man would be born in Feb.

Liam Brock was born at 38 weeks on the 18th of feb weighing in at 5pd 5oz. He is our 2nd child, Bradley our first was four in December.

Liam has started to settle into a routine and is sleeping alot better at night now. In hospital and the first few nights at home he would stay awake unsettled between feeds but i think that was due to the changes the breastmilk was going through and also establishing the flow etc. I had forgotton how sensitive nipples were once a little person started to feed on them :rolleyes: I too ended up with a good boob and a bad one. One is still alittle tender for those first half dozen sucks but slowly getting better. I am nedding to feed him about every 3-3 1/2 hrs even though he can go up to four. But due to his small birth size , his low blood sugars at birth, and the fact that his weight has dropped again since discharged the early childhood nurse suggested getting in as many feeds as he will take during the day(he can go up to 5 overnight) in order to ensure his blood sugars don't drop again and that he regains weight.

Anyway enough of me yabbering on. I look forward to chatting with you all and swapping stories of our new bundles.

Well hi ladies - and WELCOME. Good to see we all made it over here safely and sound.

Apple and Nadine and Bruky and wilson - your bubs are all delicious (you girls are recent posters, im not ignoring you other mummy's i promise).

Apple - love the name.

Sophie is great. Put on weight which is good to hear. Nadine, congrats on introducing the dummy. I bought one today, cause i was simply sick of being a milk machine every hour. She isnt taking to it though. I think she would suck on me all day if i let her. Anyway i have nurse coming over tomorrow, so will discuss then. She sleeping well - 2-3 hourly stints at night.

Finding it very CHALLENGING with 2 little beans........im exhausted, dont have my lunch till 3pm, my ironing is falling out of the laundry and my bladder is crying out for help (i just dont have time to do a wee !!!!!!). My gorgeous DH is taking a month off work to ease the new addition into our family.

Lol with the dummies, i got mine out the 2nd night in hospital when he wouldn't sleep, he has taken well to it which is great, hubby doesn't really want us to use one but its not his boobs that H is sucking on constantly so bugger him hehe, Hubby is actually much better at settling him than i am...We bought a breast pump yesterday haven't used it yet other than to do a quick test but might once my milk has settled in...

I am so lucky that i have my mum here for 2 weeks, hubby is on a week off but then going back and taking leave in April, they are both fantastic and doing loads so not sure how i'll cope when everyone leaves.

Good to see all the familiar faces, Apple Bonnie is just gorgeous so cute, although arn't they all :)

Just a quick response to Bruky's post.

I have had the exact same problem with Kayla. She latches on and then has a suck, screws up her face and then gets upset. This has only been happening since my milk has come in.

So i tried expressing a bit to soften the aereola, but that didn't work. My nipples were getting sore and cracked, so I am now expressing and giving her the bottle.

None of the feeding trouble bothered her though. She was so good, even though she wasn't getting much milk. Poor little thing.

I will attempt BF again when my nipples are healed, and I also think her mouth may be a bit small for my nipple, so hopefully in a few weeks time she will be able to latch on. But I don't mind expressing, as long as she gets my milk i am happy :)

I had the same problem Nadine, with too much milk coming out, and was suggested to hand express a little before putting her on. It seems to work for me. I also tried swapping techniques, and on the left side she takes better when in the footy hold!

How often is everyone feeding? We are going about every 3.5 hours I think. Is this normal? I'd like to try and time the feeds so she feeds around 10pm, 2am and 6am or thereabouts... we are going to experiment over the next day or two.

We are also on teh dummy, well Bonnie is - and it's a god send! Great for when I need ot hand express before a feed and when settling her if she wants to suck. Loving it!

And about settling, what are some tricks!!??? At night, she takes longer to settle.... bummer eh!

Nadine they are little devils arent they...lol My midwife told me the same thing about expressing first...she said that because our nipples are dry in between feeds thats why they hurt on initial attachment :cry: but my bad boob hurt the whole way through

I didnt have any luck at all expressing and have heard its not always easy...something about being in the right frame of mind??

I hope it works out again for you again after your poor bbs are healed sweet.

Somtimes I look at Katie and think maybe give it another go?? Does anyone know if there is a time limit on taking it up again?

Hi Kas...welcome to Feb O:) I only joined these lovely gals a few weeks before I had my DD and they have all been so welcoming...cant wait to get to know you too :) Oh and my angel was born the day before Liam...its nice to have mummies with babies close in age to chat too...the closest baby in age in 'my real world' is 4 months older

Dummies...the midwives hate em dont they....lol Katie has one too now...I tried her on the dummy when she was feeding endlessly off me...she pretty much sleeps with it now and then spits it at some stage. I have the most trouble settling her at bed time but the rest of the night she is going well...sleeping for 4 hours which is great...daytime its pretty much every 3 hours like clockwork

Tomorrow is my discharge from the Midwife program...hopefully Katie has put on weight...she was 3890g born and 3 days ago was 3800g so nearly back to birth weight...being on the bottle since might help beef her back up a bit

mbear i hear ya darl about the 2 littlies...Jordan is sooo interested in Katie and its hard to know where to get him to stop...if i stop him from touching her he might get a bit put out and I dont want that...i see jealousy already but its much better that I am not sitting and feeding for hours (in his eyes no time for him)...Now I have plenty of Jordi time

Hi apple - The best method I have found for Katie so far is to swaddle her up nice and tight after a feed (clean nappy no wind etc etc) give her the dummy (sometimes I have to hold it in a bit for her too or she just loses it) and slowly pat her on the back either on your shoulder or in bed...I am trying to do it more in bed more often so she doesnt get reliant on me cuddling her to sleep every night (I am not sure if they even develop habits at this age either so not sure if it makes any difference...does that make sense?)...so far it works but have to repeat it a bit at the horror hour...lol

Hello my lovelies!!

Allegra sends her love to all her friends! I cant believe she will be 6 weeks old this Sunday!

Things are going pretty well for us. She sleeps pretty well during the day and night so I cant complain. I guess she is a bit older than the Feb bubs but these are my tips (and I am by no means an expert, this is what I have found works for us and has us in a pretty good routine)

1. I stopped looking at the clock. I was timing and noting down everything at feeds. As soon as I stopped it became less stressful and feeding went much better.

2. Allegra had attachment issues but I spoke to our early childhood centre and they sent me for a few hours to Dalwood (kind of like tresillian I guess) where I had a one on one observation class with a nurse. They sorted out all my issues and I have not once had sore nipples - thats how much they helped me! My advise is to avoid continual use of nipples shields as they diminished my milk supple in three days! Ask your ECHC for advise.

3. Settling - from the first day Allegra was home who have pretty much done the same routine. Feed, nappy change, feed, burp, swaddle, pat on bum whilst having a little rock and into the bassinet. I try and get her down in about 5 minutes. If she cries, I ignore her for at least 5 minutes and she usually settles herself. In the 5ish weeks we have been home, we have had 2 unsettled nights.

Allegra wont take dummy but thankfully she doesnt scream much so at this stage I am not missing its potential help.

I guess these things work for us. Some people dont believe in self settling but its something that I like to use and Allegra doesnt cry that much at all when I put her down now, only if she has wind or something.

Bruky - expressing is hit and miss isnt it! Sometimes I get a heap of milk and other times its like my pump is broken or something. They say looking at a pic of bubs helps!

Im such a dope i put our details in but haven't got onto to post yet!

Finally i realised...im glad everyone is going well.

Aiden is 4 weeks on Friday, where has the time gone! he's very happy being bottle fed and put on 500gms in 8 days, he loves his food. he's feeding about every 3 hours at the moment and we get 1 5 hour break a night...not too bad. hopefully he will sleep through from about 6 weeks [-o<

Dummies - had a similar issue with aiden wanting to suck all the time...i hate dummies but brought one, we used is on and off for a couple of days and he's sucking settled down so i chucked it in the bin.
