I like to keep things neat and tidy down on Tassy. :p About once a week I usually like to do the fire breaks and tame the forrest in general but the last few weeks I have to admit, I can't see what I am doing! :redface:
This would be DH's face if I asked for help :o ha ha...
Last week I nearly cut off my finger nail.. not even sure how that happened :lol:
Do you bother once you cant see, get waxed or just let it run wild? :dunno:

With DS I just let it go - but I don't reckon I will this time. It's all a bit difficult to keep the forest clean after the birth.
I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and ask DH to assist - his face will be exactly the same.
Missbec gets it waxed (we were discussing in another thread) - as I'm sure other BB members do. Brave, very brave. I just wish I had the guts to - it would make life so much easier in the long run.
I just reckon waxing would totally cane - but be really good. Oh, I'm torn!!

Yeah I let it go first time too but knew I had to have a ceaser so day before, I was standing in front of the mirror doing it and that was really awkward.
I did try geting it waxed once when I was pg and you're right it blardy caned after shaving for so long and because everything is more sensitive. Especially along the top YEOW! I always got ingrowns from waxing too for some reason, never a prob with shaving. Shaving only itches if you leave it longer than a week in between. For me anyway..

This has always been something i HATE doing so its become DF's job regardless if im pregnant or not.
Since being pregnant i've let it go wild. But every couple of months i'll get sick of it and shave it off very slowly and carefully in the shower. Lol

Evie was correct. I just got waxed.
It wasn't my first time and it won't be my last!
This time though I had let a few months go between waxes so I was at the beginning again - the more you have it done, the less it hurts.
It hurt like a b**** but it only lasted, ohhh, maybe a minute?
Much better than when I TRIED to shave - hmmm, I still have the scar! That will teach me for trying to do it when I couldn't see...
I will continue to get waxed every couple of weeks now until and after the birth. I just find it so much easier than doing it myself - maybe I'm just lazy!
I prefer waxing because it is quick, easy and lasts much longer than shaving. Plus the hair grows back less and softer...
Ingrowns are easily avoided by having a good routine after waxing - using a loofah glove or body scrub and moisturiser. I have only ever had 2 ingrowns - this time actually - because I didn't follow my routine... :rolleyes: They have pretty much gone since I started it again though.
My first birth I went wild... OMG! Big Mistake. Never ever again! I tore badly and needed a lot of stitches and needed to be checked down there hourly... It would have been so much easier to look after by the nurses and myself, if I had tamed it!

Just go wild. My hospital asks you not to wax or shave 4 weeks prior to your EDD. Apparently waxing and shaving can leave small nics which can cause infection.
BTW I use clippers to keep under control and DH does it when I can't...It is a bit nerve racking but the job gets done after a few laughs.

Both hospitals - first birth and impending - actually suggested a tidy up prior to birth...
When I asked the midwife and OB at the hospital for this one if it was ok to be completely waxed for the birth, they both said a very big yes and explained it makes their job a little easier...
You brought up a good point with the shaving - I will avoid that one if I can't get waxed in time for the birth or if I chicken out! :rolleyes:

I used to wax myself. I would lock myself in the bathroom on a Friday night, drink a couple of bourbans (numbs everything a little and helps with the ripping it off courage) but in all honesty, didnt matter how much I loofahed and looked after it, I ALWAYS got ingrowns. I never get them shaving and I never get itchy from shaving either. It would be nice if it didnt grow back so quick.. but hey DH doesnt inspect that closely these days anyway. :boohoo:
Interesting thread - just starting to contemplate the idea of waxing down there - the sides and underneath seem to be causing a few issues with my underwear and attempts to wipe after toileting. Not really worried about the top section much more just the sides and underneath.
Not quite sure if I'm game to go and get it done though - wouldn't quite know what exactly I'm asking for - does a bikini wax just do the sides or does it do underneath as well? I don't want the whole lot off - I know that much :redface: (If I ever used to tidy up down there I would shave but that happens very rarely as I would get the itchy rash thingy happening too - rather just go wild usually)
Not even game to ask DH to attempt to help tidy there - I would be too embarrassed to ask him, let alone him actually considering the idea and attempting it.
To me its hair and I have never bothered with it. My midwife looks at more vagina's then I care to think about so when it comes to birthing my attitude is 'who cares?'. Birthing is natural, hair is too :D.

I have so been wondering about this too! I can't see my tassie either - DH would do it no probs but I think I would just laugh the whole time! I think waxing would probably be better - but I am so scared of it! I only just started doing my legs!!!:lol: My sis swears by waxing the forest but I think it will absolutely kill! Post birth I can see how this is a better option. Oh what to do? A girls dilehmma! Thanks for the laughs girls what a great thread!

Liz I have a friend that uses clippers that kinda shorten everything up to keep it tidy and under control. I usually use scissors to shorten the landing strip but I cant see it now to do it properly and too scared I will hurt myself :lol:
Macca I'm not doing it for the midwives LOL its just for me as I prefer it neat. My friend is a theatre nurse and she said that if peole come in for an op where they are knocked out and have made a special effort down there, they have a bit of a laugh about it!
What do people think Obstetricians prefer?
I have the clippers. They're specifically designed for deforestation. They're actually pretty good and I haven't cut off any vital parts - oh no!!!!
I will continue to clip, dunno how - but I will. Can still see everything so far - so that's good. My belly isn't so large yet.
Erybery, I don't reckon they'd care. They've no doubt seen everything and are prepared for all types.
I can't understand why middies would say they find hairless "easier"? What are they doing?!? I would've thought that any tears or where they need to be looking there's no hair growing anyway? :dunno:
I haven't tidied for a while and last time I could see ok if I angled my pelvis forward enough and put one foot on the toilet. But next time I will probably use a portable mirror while I wield the scissors, and rest it on the toilet seat.
Last time I let it run wild, but this time I'd like to control it some before the post-birth bleeding.

I try squatting down, and just do my best to hack slowly with th razor. But most of the time I get stuck. Its a hit and miss thing lol!
I wish I had the guts to get it all waxed . It would make life so much easier. But im too chicken!
ha ha ha... great thread!! I prefer to wax and did when I was pregnant with Aiden up until I was 38 weeks and the lady who waxed was great and honestly it hardly hurt... but thats just my personal preference :p

It was horrific!
I think my midwife and ob said it would make it easier is because of MY history - they will be able to see what is going on easier and quicker when they know I am already have panic attcks about it now...
Another waxer here!
Waxed all the way through when pregnant with our DD - and our hospital asked you to wax or shave before c-section delivery. No stubble around my scar when it was fresh which really helped... takes about 2-3 weeks before the hair peeks back through - by which time my scar was in really good shape and not as sensitive...
Not sure what Ob's prefer overall though.
Doesn't hurt as much as you think - and hurts a whole bunch LESS than your eyebrows. Besides, I only do it every 6 weeks.
Should say though, that it does hurt a bit more when I'm pregnant - but I'm generally more sensitive in that region when I'm pregnant :redface:!

I couldn't see and it was just too hard so I let it go. With DS2 I fully intended to do something about it before going into labour, but he arrived 3 1/2 weeks early and with a 3 hour labour there was no time to worry about it! I am sure the ob and mw have seen it all before so I wasn't too worried about that, but boy did it give me a shock when I could see it after the birth!
They must have seen it all before!! - unchartered territory.
lol this is a funny one. Well I too have always been one to tame the beast. I have to shave still. I can't really see it either I just hope that it doens't look to funny.

I'm a huge fan of waxing Tassie so lucky for my DH, he's not going to be subjected to maintaining my precious 'Map' for me. I actually had mine tamed a couple of weeks ago and had to apologise to my goregous beautician for my new Amazon look - even my poor belly has some new sprouts! Well, it had some until the hot wax took care of those suckers for me. I have so much extra hair now I'm pregnant that it's disturbing! I still shudder to think what my beautician saw when she got rid of the hair 'behind'!!!
Speaking of excess hair, has anyone else been blessed by a very fine growth under their chin? My DH affectionality informed me yesteday that he still loves me, even if I do have a beard!! I've never had hair there before and I'm a bit scard to wax it in case I have to do it forever. Hmmm, will start another thread to get some feedback

I have never been one to keep up on the mowing. The undergrowth needs to be capable of harbouring fugitives before I can be bothered but I did a huge "backyard blitz" when my due date approached.
Tools of the trade were scissors, wax and a small mirror which I rested on the corner of the bath which I then rested my foot on. It wasnt easy, there were several troops lost but mission accomplished eventually. I should have got a purple heart! I was glad I bothered as I had an emergency ceasarian and saved valuable lifesaving time from having to have a shave in surgery. MUCH nicer for the wound care too as I had a nasty overhang scar that had to be cleaned and covered for much longer than normal. I was very glad to not have much regrowth then!

AFM I can't exactly see what the heck im shaving down there but I try my best. A wax has jumped into my mind on a few occasions, but Im way too chicken to get it done! Makes me feel silly considering Im going to go through something much more painful!
If I do get it done, and it ends up really hurting, chances are I probably wont go back. Im kind of in 2 minds about it!
I've been 'going to Brazil' for about the last 10 years or so. I look at it a litle like birth- you know it's going be incredibly painful but you know the pain will eventually come to an end and the end result is well worth it. Luckily, for all of us, we don't have to return to childbirth 4-6 weeks after the last one...hmmm, not sure how to work that into my little metaphor:think:
Anyway, I'm all for it particularly in the third trimester when I'm feeling massive...bring on the pedis, manis and visits to the hairdresser- anything to make me feel a bit prettier!!

Hi, I just checked into the second tri section ... not officially eligible yet, just wanted to get an idea of what I was in for.
I love this thread! I'm glad I have time to plan a strategy for how to deal with this when the bump gets bigger. I'm thinking DP would love an opportunity to have an extra fiddle down there.
As for waxing, I've had it done a few times... gave it a go because it's so cheap here. It didn't hurt so much but it was VERY personal ... doing a starfish while someone moves your bits around. I also got ingrowns... got a super-infected one last time that filled up with pus ... so disgusting. I ran out of exfoliant and didn't think it would matter.
Now my Tassie region seems to be public property for scans, DP's conversations with the baby and the future birth... maybe it won't seem so embarrassing.

I have been having regular waxes for Tassie since - well I can't even remember how long I have been waxing. I missed my last appointment because I couldn't get to Obs and other appointments all in one day so I will take to Tassie with the clippers and shorten everything and then get it waxed and then continue that regime until birth. I have already discussed with my wonderful waxer how we can manage the different positions once the bump gets bigger
I've started waxing again since I've been pregnant cos I lost sight of mine months ago. It's really not that bad... If you ask me having your legs done hurts way more than your bikini (I only get a tidy up though, not the full brazillian, funnily enough they actually call the wax I get a Tassie).
But I was thinking about what I will do in the lead up to the birth. Personally I will feel a whole lot more comfortable if I know it's all neat and tidy. But, I have to exfoliate daily to avoid ingrowns and somehow I don't think I will be wanting to exfoliate anywhere near there in the days afterwards (or weeks if I need stitches)...
I have just reached this stage.. Well not just reached it, but reached the point where DP has asked me on a number of occasions "what are you going to do about that situation? :o i got a mirror out the other day and welll :redface: its pretty horrifying! Esspeically because i am normally a waxer!!
I don't mind waxing there normally, I just cant be bothered to be honest! Plus it looks weird now! I cant remember who posted it originally but the description "big purple hamburger" comes to mind!
Dp has kindly offered his services - personally I think that this is just coz he will get a free pass to touch it and secretly thinks he might get some action out of doing it! How wrong he is! But I am scared at him coming at me with a blade! :o So I am going to go and buy a lady grommer which are clippers designed specifically for Tassy, and let him attack it with them! - plus I think we are beyond a blade situation at the moment! :redface:
I think closer to my EDD I will get my act together and get it waxed though, I personally think it is much cleaner, prob isn't, but it just makes me feel less icky especially around AF time, so I assume it will make me feel a bit better to be smooth after the birth!

Another thing is because I used an Implanon contraceptive for 6 years, then was diagnosed with PCOS and then fell pg on my second cycle after being on PCOS management I haven't really had a real AF experience for about 7 years or so - with the post partum bleeding I am not sure how I will cope but I remember when I would have AF and get annoyed at the forest so I imagine I would be much the same post birth.
tk1999 - yeah thats the bit that more worries me, not so much the actual birth. Obviously tampons are out, so pads are the go, which i HATE. Mainly because no matter how much i change them "down there" smells when i use them, plus they irriate me - i think i have some form of reaction to the fabric, and the smell is more sweat than anything (TMI and gross i know!) but being waxed seems to help this and make things much much more bareable.
I am usually a full Brazillian girl, but had my last one a month before I got UTD. I just haven't had the guts to have one since and everything is outta control, I tell ya!! (I have, however still been having minor bikini waxes so as to avoid inficting fright on those swimming with me this summer). I am due for a wax in 2 weeks and am psyching myself up for the full-monty and am scared - it is so much more painful when a) you are pregnant and b) the forest is totally overgrown! I figure rather go through the pain now than waiting until I am about to pop :D
