quilting kits

Has anyone used or purchased a quilting kit before??

I've made a couple of quilts now, but am feeling lazy, and wondering what they're like??

Where do you buy from?

I was lucky to inherit my Nan (in laws) kit! I've been told there is a few hundred dollars worth of cutters and mats in the bag (the bag Nan quilted).

Now I just have to learn how to use it.

Hope you're able to find a kit.

Oh yeah Charlie! It is a VERY expensive hobby!!
I have all my tools, as I've been to quilting classes, and purchased the necessary items, however - I'm actually refering to the kits you can buy with your material pre-cut.. Do you know anything about them? I'm pretty lost searching the oodles of google search results!!

I bought a quilting kit with the pre cut fabric a few months ago. It's still sitting in my fabric drawer until I learn how to quilt! I've managed to lay it all out and pin it in the order I want, just have to sew it now. It will be for DD and I want to make sure I know what I'm doing so I don't stuff it up....no progress so far

Eluned I went to my local Janome shop and took a 10 week quilting class. It was on a Monday, for 2 hours in the morning.
We were given homework each week. And buy the end of the 10 weeks I knew how to quilt, AND i had completed my very first one!
Each week we were taught a new technique, and made a block, so the end quilt was full of different styles, iykwim.
Look in to it! The classes themselves wern't expensive, it was just the material and supplies.

Now, I try and make a quilt for my very close friends, whenever they have a baby
I'm young, so the quilts aren't "old and country" looking, very colourful and super cute.
The only problem is - often the people who you make one for - have absolutely NO IDEA how much goes into them. So you never get the response or appreciation you'd like (or deserve).

ooh thanks telly, I'll have to check out some local classes then.

The quilt kit I bought just had 64 squares with basic instructions. Once I get around to putting it together I'll then have to do the batting and backing myself. That didn't come in the kit. I bought mine from an online fabric store.

there's heaps of places to get them. Most quilting shops sell them. If you have a look in the quilting mags there are often heaps of ads as well. I bought one once. Started by hand then switched to machine as DH bought me a sewing machine. The seam allowance is different for hand and machine and I never finished it

Can you remember which one Eluned? I thought hot possum was what I was looking for, but not quite. Gorgeous fabrics though, now in my favourites

Saffron Craig has some beautiful kits. I love her fabric designs!
