Angry Help Needed Cleaning Cross Stitch!

    Please help me!!
My DS decided to play with my half finished cross stitch yesterday while I was putting the washing on the line and now it has dirt marks over it... aaargh!
I have no idea how to go about cleaning it, can someone pretty please help me with what to clean it with and how to go about it, bearing in mind it is not finished!
    Thanks so much!

Vinegar and unprocessed bran flakes. Check out the lush site, she used it in a few episodes. You get the bran and spray it with vinegar till it resembles brown sugar, then you pat it onto the tapestry and then leave it till it is dry and shake it off. You might be best though doing that after its finished I'm not sure.

If it isn't something that will stain it, I would leave it till it's finished and then wash it as they tend to get grubby marks on them while you are doing them anyway. But if it is something that is likely to stain, just give it a gentle hand wash with some sunlight soap (you buy it in a box with about 5 or 6 cakes of soap in it) as I find sunlight soap is the best thing for washing them. But you can put it in the washing machine on a gentle cycle and only leave it in for half the cycle before pulling it out, rinsing and drip drying it.

Thanks so much girls, it's just dirt that's on there, DS was playing outside in the dirt and went inside without me noticing! I don't think the dirt would stain would it? So should I just leave it until it's done?

I washed mine in lukewarm water and wool wash.

I think there is difference between hand grime and dirt though and it could mark it. Maybe you can spot clean the dirty parts
