I've got a ball coming up at the end of May, a Black and White ball, and the only dresses I can find are HUGELY expensive!
I have a sewing machine, and limited sewing experience. I was just wondering how feasible it would be for me to make a basic dress in a gorgeous black satin, and then a plain white sash - do you think it's possible at all?
PLEASE tell me if I'm kidding myself - DH may hurt me if I have ANOTHER unfinished project on the go
Possible if you have someone to mentor you along the way. Satin is quite slippy, so I would recommend some practice sewing, like maybe a nice satin pillow slip, to get the hang of it. It does show sloppy sewing easily, but maybe black wont be so bad.
Fair enough I guess, given the limited time frame, its probably better to get a dressmaker to do, but start practicing anyway so I can do it myself next time...
if you think you can do it, you can do it!!
all my sewing experience was textiles in year 7, and a couple of bags i made out of my fathers old jeans.
But i made my wedding dress =) got my first sewing machine as a birthday/xmas pressie in novemeber, and made 2 dresses by march.
The satin is slipery, i found having a lining made it easier (i just use calico).
in saying that, ebay might work too =)
but its worth a try, just like everything else!
good luck with it!! if you want any help or tips ill try as best as i can!!
