Sewing a mei tai - what kind of fabric?

I have found a free online pattern for a mei tai, but I'm wondering what kind of fabric to use? I'm guessing that stretch fabrics wouldn't be so good, as I primarily want it to be able to wear Jambin on my back, so I need something sturdy that doesn't have much give in it. At the same time, I want something that's not too hot (e.g. corderoy or however you spell it). Any ideas?
