Ok so I'm going to start my curtains today if I can. I have 15 mts of Organza to get through ad it SUDDENLY occurred to me that I might have to change the stitch size or setting or whatever to suit the lightweight material.
You might want to change pressure of the foot on the material. Do you have a manual for you machine to show how to adjust foor pressure?
Stitch size? Don't need really small stitches cos they won't be under a lot of pressure, but you don't want to go to big either. My machine stitch size goes from zero to four, and i would go about a 2.
Most machines have that sort of information in the manual when they explain about stitch size and types. If you have the manual, maybe have a quick look or even look on the internet if you don't.
make sure you have the right needle in too...a nice sharp (not ballpoint/stretch needle) in about a size 10 otherwise it can be a bit of overkill on a fine fabric with a heavier needle and can sometimes pull on the threads or even leave like holes type thing as it sews.
You may or may not need to make the stitch size a smidge smaller but maybe not trial a small piece first and see
I have looked up the manual and it says to use between 65/9 or 75/11 - does the last number indicate the size then?
And if so, I only have a 14 - well several of them, I didn't get different sizes with the machine.
Since I am always one for plowing ahead (like an idiot), would it be ok if I was extra careful with the 14? I am folding over the edge 2x and attaching the curtain tape so altogether there is a bit of material there.
yup that last number is what you want.....9,10 or 11 would be good for light stuff. 14 prolly not so good but try it...it may pull the fabric it may not.....just try a test piece first is my advice
OK I tried the 14 and its ok. Lucky I had a test run because the silly thing hasn't worked the way I wanted it to.Grrrr. The fabric isn't pulling though so that's a good thing.
