I need a project and i found this cute old wicker picnic basket at a garage sale the other day and i decided id tart it up a bit...line it etc...dont know if il ever use it but anyway. Its one of those ones that has two lids on top that open from a hinge in the middle.
Ive sat and looked at it for the last hour and i have no idea where to start! I was about to admit defeat already but wondered if any pro sewers could give me a bit of a push in the right direction....as i havent got a clue what im doing!?
If you just want a liner for it, the easiest would be to get some newspaper & trace the base (if you do it on the out side you would have to add a seam allowance)
Then get some more paper & measure around the basket ( the circumference) and add 1-2 inches , then measure the height & add 5-6 inches. Make a big rectangle with these measurements.
Join the ends of the rectangle together, the attached to the base part. then the top, make a casing for some elastic & cut out some room for the handle/s & hem. So it should line the inside & go up over the outside, if that makes sense. You could also attach ties so it ties to the base of the handle.
Hopefully I haven't confused you, it all makes sense in my head LOL
