damn sleepless nights & baby brain....
I was at the library & wandering around thinking
'I know there's something I'm meant to be looking for... what was it? I think it had something to do with Bellybelly...'
So I wandered around in the parenting section for a bit then gave it up & went home :doh:

im nearing the page 100 mark :redface: i cant believe i havent finished it yet, it was a drag to page 50 but since then ive actually liked it, its still a little hard to follow but its getting there, should we extend the time until discussion?
Maybe i'll get the movie too... :redface:
I'm not sure Mrs S. I think I will struggle, and I know there seems to be alot of people that are way off finishing..... I think if i tried to finish this one it still would be another 2 or 3 weeks before I got through it, and like I said, it isn't calling me!! But i am happy to go with whatever, I had already resigned myself to either finishing it or not finishing it and giving my input to the discussion where I can.
I don't know what page I am up to.... she just arrived back ;) for anyone playing at home!

I am so glad to hear that others have struggled to get into this book. I am a great reader and will read anything and everything, usually multiple times but this book I really struggled with. It was interesting for me to react this way to a fiction book so I've given lots of thought to why that might be.
Happy to start the discussion anytime but perhaps a little more time would be good? Just thinking that it will be better to discuss if more people have finished it and I don't want to give away too much by being the first to start :rofl:
I am happy to hold off discussing for a little while longer...I am at page 381 and it is last bit that is killing me!!

Discussion on Love in the time of Cholera will start as of March 1st for the whole month while we are reading the next book choice; if that suits everyone. If it isnt discussed for a month no worries, just a good time frame to keep the thread alive. If you have NOT finished reading the book, still feel free to join in on the discussion or when your ready. Sorry Ive been MIA; getting ready to start Uni next week and had 3 sick kidlets and a husband on crutches :rolleyes: I do lurk though to keep up with the goings on.
I gave up on LITOC. I got a few chapters in and wanted to scratch my eyes out in boredom. Its rare I find a book I dont like or cant get into but this one was one of them :lol: I am curious to see what others who did read to the end have to say.
Still happy to take more suggestions for the suggestion hat if any of you come across books you think might be an interesting read! I have many awesome suggestions already in the hat.
I had heard this book mentioned so many times and am really surpised at how myself -and seems as though everyone else- is finding it.

I will keep trying for a little longer but am looking forward to moving onto the next book. I too keep reading the same thing over and over, it has been knocked off the bed sooooo many times by the boys i keep having to figure out where i was up to :o and in doing that seem to get no where because i get tired and have to put it down.
Freya just read a review for the next book, sounds really interesting. I'll try this one for a little longer and then may move on.
It is interesting that most people are saying the same thing....
hard to get in to, complicated reading meaning that they have to keep reviewing what they read and nothing drawing them on the next page.
Oh well, I say it was worth the try - the blurb and Oprah made it sound like it had so much potential. I will keep attempting to keep going but certainly no promises!!
I can usually read anything in under a week, too - but honestly with this pregnancy, everytime I sit down to read, I fall asleep :rofl:
Its not the book, its me - but this book is true to form as with all literary classics, they all read the same as far as being lots of words, or ''waffling'' (well certainly of the ones I've read, anyway!)

''We Need To Talk About Kevin'' is a FANTASTIC book - great for discussion, but its another fairly heavy one (especially the topic nature for us mums) - just thought I'd give you all a heads up ;)
Not heavy/hard to get into like Love In The Time Of Cholera, but Lionel Shrivers writing style will take a little while to get into - another one where if you find yourself struggling at the beginning, push through the first 50 pages & you'll be all good :D
Definately will keep reading Love In The Time Of Cholera - I need to start reading more in the daytime & not so much at night :lol:

I have the next book on order at the library....Hopefully i enjoy this one better than the last!
I'm almost up to Chapter 3 but i'm thinking of giving up, i'm not one to leave a book unfinished but i'm more so just reading the words to get through the pages. I think i'll continue to read it until i can get my hands on the new book.
I just finished reading We need to talk about Kevin - 2 THUMBS UP! What a thought provoking and at times horrifying book. Youll all enjoy it I am sure :)

Ooooh, I'm thinking of joining the group - just ordered a copy of Love in the time of cholera and read it early next week! (We did Kevin in my IRL book group and I found it too bad to read. Not the content, the writing style. Couldn't get into it at all. So will skip next month.)

LZ - 'Kevin' took me about the first 50 pages to get into the writing style (she was tough in the beginning) but glad I persisted as its one of the best books I've ever read. Definately not happy by any means though, so it may not have been worth it for you to keep reading for that reason I guess :lol:

I managed to get through the first 100 pages but it wasn't good at all - but then I didn't really want to read that sort of book!
Just googled Kevin - I'm really looking forward to reading it. Off to the shops today so hopefully I'll find a copy.
I now have my copy and have managed to read a couple of pages. It's a different style of writing again. Very wordy?? :dunno: But even in the process of reserving it and picking it up i have had a number of comments on the book which makes me really interested to read it and complete it.
Gave up on LITTOC :wall: It's rare that i can't get into a book and find something in it that makes me want to read it but not this one...

first week in April is kick off for discussion but unless you go read the discussion thread you could prob get away with finishing it in April.
