I am really struggling too...I have to keep going back and re reading bits cause I get so lost and confused...I really want to finish it though......LisaB I know I can, I know I can lol

Discussion on Love in the time of Cholera will start as of March 1st for the whole month while we are reading the next book choice; if that suits everyone. If it isnt discussed for a month no worries, just a good time frame to keep the thread alive. If you have NOT finished reading the book, still feel free to join in on the discussion or when your ready. A new thread has been started exclusively for the discussion of the book choice; to allow for non-spoilage if members havent finished reading it yet ;)

This one was a suggested book for quite a few members. Finish date for this book is March 31st ready for discussion in April. If you are a new member and would like to contribute 3 suggestions of books to read please pm me title and author and they will go into the hat. Thankyou!

I thought Id take the lead and get the discussion and next months book choice out there for everyone. There will be a separate discussion thread for the book choice so as not to spoilt it for anyone.

Sorry Ive been MIA; getting ready to start Uni next week and had 3 sick kidlets and a husband on crutches :rolleyes: I do lurk though to keep up with the goings on.

I gave up on LITOC. I got a few chapters in and wanted to scratch my eyes out in boredom. Its rare I find a book I dont like or cant get into but this one was one of them :lol: I am curious to see what others who did read to the end have to say.

Still happy to take more suggestions for the suggestion hat if any of you come across books you think might be an interesting read! I have many awesome suggestions already in the hat.

I had heard this book mentioned so many times and am really surpised at how myself -and seems as though everyone else- is finding it.

I will keep trying for a little longer but am looking forward to moving onto the next book. I too keep reading the same thing over and over, it has been knocked off the bed sooooo many times by the boys i keep having to figure out where i was up to :o and in doing that seem to get no where because i get tired and have to put it down.

Freya just read a review for the next book, sounds really interesting. I'll try this one for a little longer and then may move on.

It is interesting that most people are saying the same thing....

hard to get in to, complicated reading meaning that they have to keep reviewing what they read and nothing drawing them on the next page.

Oh well, I say it was worth the try - the blurb and Oprah made it sound like it had so much potential. I will keep attempting to keep going but certainly no promises!!

I can usually read anything in under a week, too - but honestly with this pregnancy, everytime I sit down to read, I fall asleep :rofl:
Its not the book, its me - but this book is true to form as with all literary classics, they all read the same as far as being lots of words, or ''waffling'' (well certainly of the ones I've read, anyway!)

''We Need To Talk About Kevin'' is a FANTASTIC book - great for discussion, but its another fairly heavy one (especially the topic nature for us mums) - just thought I'd give you all a heads up ;)
Not heavy/hard to get into like Love In The Time Of Cholera, but Lionel Shrivers writing style will take a little while to get into - another one where if you find yourself struggling at the beginning, push through the first 50 pages & you'll be all good :D

Definately will keep reading Love In The Time Of Cholera - I need to start reading more in the daytime & not so much at night :lol:

I hate to say it but I gave up on the book - it was too hard for me to get into :-(
I went to the library this morning and borrowed we need to talk about kevin - hopefully I can make it through this one!

I have the next book on order at the library....Hopefully i enjoy this one better than the last!

I'm almost up to Chapter 3 but i'm thinking of giving up, i'm not one to leave a book unfinished but i'm more so just reading the words to get through the pages. I think i'll continue to read it until i can get my hands on the new book.

I just finished reading We need to talk about Kevin - 2 THUMBS UP! What a thought provoking and at times horrifying book. Youll all enjoy it I am sure :)

The book has some questions listed in the back from the author about the books storyline that I will be posting as discussion points in the discussion thread at the end of next month.

im about 3/4 of the way into love in the time of cholera. it's a bit meandering but im enjoying it!!!

Well, I thought I would cheat and watch the DVD..... I've only managed to get about halfway through that too!!! Further along than the book, but still not getting there! :wall:
