Crime fiction Lynda La Plante and the Prime Suspect series is pretty good reading (they made it into a good TV Series staring Helen Miran).
For light on chick lit I like Jennifer Crusie too.

Have you read anything by Torey Hayden? She was a special education teacher. She worked with some severly troubled children and wrote about the breakthroughs of a few of them.. I have only read 3 of her books, One Child, The Tiger's Child & Twilight Children, but I think you might like them.. I know once I started reading One Child I couldn't put it down. I also enjoy John Marsden & Jodi Picoult and usually cry for most of these authors books (LOL I guess I'm a bit emotional hah)
Thanks Melly, at this stage which preggy hormones racing I'm better to stick to fiction LOL. I cry at just about anything, and I think true life stories about children would be too much for me to cope with atm!
