Please help me with my Sony ereader!

I got a Sony ereader for my birthday. I have tried to download a book from the sony store but it says only for Canada and USA users. I can't download from Amazon because they only support Kindle ebooks. I downloaded a book from Books on Board and it downloaded fine, but says the book has only 66 pages. If I look on the printed version of the book it has over 400 pages so how can this be possible? Please help me, I'm feeling like this was a bad buy and not a very good birthday!

Welcome to the future of books = locked up in international licensing laws.

However do not despair. You can use calibre software to convert ebooks into your Sony format, allowing you to get books from a much bigger range of providers and still read them (ie allowing you to purchase a kindle book but then convert it for your reader). You can ask at your public library, as many of them are starting to or looking at providing ebook loans. Dymocks also sells ebooks in Australia (but more expensive than amazon).

Or if all else fails, you could read an illegally downloaded copy. Not ideal, but if the industry refuses to provide when we're happy to pay, they can hardly blame people who choose to go over to the dark side.

I'll get DH to post later tonight. We've not had a problem with ours.
