What book are you reading at the moment?

Mrsmac - Its a good one for girls that age to read.

Another one I think they should make compulsory reading for English yrs 10 - 12 is 'A Million Little Pieces' by James Frey.

I know he copped heaps when it all came out on Oprah :rolleyes: - But regardless of the few 'elaborations' he may or may not have written, this book scared the hell out of me. (Drugs, alcohol, etc)
My 15yr old neice is reading it ATM and its really interesting to hear her thoughts, even though she hasn't even finished... I think it would stop at least one or two teenagers from going there.

i wish i could say i was reading for pleasure but i'm into chapther 7 of anatomy and phisology science to life lol sounds riveting doesn't it

just finished 'making history' by stephen fry. it took me a while to get into but once i did, i loved it! it was very funny :)

and now reading 'pitch black' by alex gray

I'm reading 'Down Came The Rain' by Brooke Shields.

The book is fueled by raw emotion which hits very close to home. What she has overcome is truly amazing and it goes to show that no matter how bad things get you can get through it.

I've just finished, Don't Tell mum I work on the rigs, she thinks I'm a piano player in a wh#$@house. by Paul Carter. DH's workmates were talking about it, so he just had to get it. Is a great book for a laugh, I haven't laughed out loud so much from reading a book!
I've just started reading the follow up to it, called, This is not a drill: Just another glorious day in the oilfields.

I'm reading two books at the moment. One is Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets :redface: - I can't help myself, I love the Harry Potter books! The other is Breastfeeding...Naturally.

I'm reading "Gaspipe: Confessions of a Mafia Boss" by Phillip Carlo. He also wrote "The Iceman" which is one of my favourites.

It gives a great inside look at the new york crime families as the author did exclusive interviews with Anthony Casso (they were neighbours when he was growing up). I find that sort of stuff facinating - but I am a little morbid so it's not for the faint-hearted!

I'm reading 'Breath' by Tim Winton... have heard too many people rave about it and my curiosity got the better of me ;)

God, I have so many on my shelf I need to start its not funny... have just had no time as of late... but Luke's at a sleepover & DH is working, so tonight is looking good for a glass of wine & my book on the lounge :D

Just finished The Da Vinci Code. I resisted reading it for ages (I always reject books when they are all the rage). Have to say that yes, it was infact a very good read. It really brought back the memories of my trip to Europe which included all the places the book covers: Paris, France... London, England... and Scotland. And yes, I would recommend it, especially to art loving Francophiles like me. It really helps if you have been to the Louvre and have a good Art History book on hand as well.... but not vital. The book is primarily a crime (who dunnit) conspiracy book... lots of food for thought.

Bath - I tend to try and stay away from the 'mainstream' books as well - but the hype of them every now and then gets the better of me :p

I really enjoyed The Da Vinci Code - DH bought me the hardcover, which has all of the artwork printed alongside each page when it is referring to it in the story... very helpful! :D

I'm a big artlover as well - and DaVinci is one of my favourites, and although I'm fairly familiar with the pieces mentioned, it was still really good to look at them in detail as they were spoken about.


At the moment I'm reading 'The Behaviour Of Moths' by Poppy Adams... not my choice, but one for one of my bookgroups ;)
Have only read 50 pages so far but is enjoyable so far!

Just finished 'Still Alice' (think its due for release in March sometime?) - I was given an advanced readers copy - about a woman who is diagnosed with early onset Alzheimers disease at 51... very emotional & heartwrenching in parts, but well worth the read! Its fiction, but the author is an expert in science and in Alzheimers particularly, so really well written.

Made me think a LOT about how my grandmother coped caring for my grandfather as he developed it for the last few years of his life..

I'm reading the Twilight series.... again.... :redface:

I am up to Eclipse and once I am finished Breaking Dawn I am going to read Slumdog Millionaire.

ETA: HB - I also have the hardcover with the pictures inside - so so good!!

I just finished reading 'My sisters Keeper' by Jodi Picoult.
I'm going to start 'Wild Fire' by Nelson Demille. I tried to start it the other day but just wasn't in the mood to get into it.

Amy - Slumdog is FANTASTIC!!! I loved it - the movie was competely different to the book in regards to most stories - as to how he knew the answers to each question... but I enjoyed the movie as well ;)

Book was fabulous - can't wait til you've read it because I want to know which story you liked best!

The one I liked wasn't even hinted at in the movie at all... and IMO was by far the best one :D

It was so moving to me throughout the whole thing... the movie had its parts, but I was completely in awe of 'Ram' the whole time in the book ;) (I think he even has a different name in the movie... can't recall it as I just kept thinking of him as Ram)... and how he came to have his name representing 3 different religions/cultures of India was significant in the book too.... but nothing to do with anything in the movie :rolleyes:

Bath - I thought the Da Vinci Code was a great read too. His other books were ok, not great, but ok.

I've just finished reading Twilight and am now onto New Moon. Am really enjoying the Twilight series :)

I'm going to read Dan Brown's Angels & Demons next. I don't expect it to be as good as TDVC but I quite like his style and knowledge of religious history... assuming that A&D will at least contain those elements.

Reading Catherine Alliott's The Secret Life of Evie Hamilton now. Quite funny and the main character sounds a bit like me LOL it'll be interesting to read what happens to her! It's also set in Oxford England (where DH and I both had ancestors) so I like reading about that part of the UK.
