What books do i need to read??

Just looking for some recommendations of what books are on your need to read list. I love reading but cant seem to find anything that holds my interest. Would really like to get back into more reading so any suggestions would be appreciated. Can be light hearted or the kinda book that makes you think.

What books do you usually enjoy reading? Those are just a few that sprang to mind as "good" books that are easy for me to read and often make me think.

Spot on Ryn. Anything by Terry Pratchet is great! And Neil Gaiman as well.

For something completely different have you read The Time Travellers Wife? Its a lovely book. I've read it twice and refuse to see the movie cos I don't want to ruin the experience of the book.

I'm currently re-reading One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest by Ken Kesey.

If you are into historical romance Diana Gabaldon is fantastic. The first book in the series is called Cross stitch and it is about a woman who goes through standing stones back in time 200 years. I couldn't put it down...

Phillippa Gregory's books are fabulous - historical fiction, Henry VIII era, quite acurate in the facts, and a great story in between.

Jeffrey Archer has just released a 30th Anniversary edition of Kane and Abel - if you have never read it is is a GREAT story.
His short stories are also excellent

Infinity, I can relate to what you are saying. I find that the movies are rarely as good as the books (there are a few notable exceptions). I will not see The Road, as I recently read the book. And I have decided not to see The Lovely Bones, because I want to read the book first.

I am reading the " the brighest star" by marian keyes . i have all her books , also Jane green , Sophie Kinsella . I have all the books from them .

They are Chick Lit and very funny the stories are easy to follow and make you cringe with embarrasment when one of the characters gets themselves into a mess ! the most recent book i finished (2 days ago ) was "twenties Girl " from shophie Kinsella . It took me about 4 nights to finish , i couldnt put it down and i often read and read till the wee hours if im really into the book !

I cant really get the gist of Crime or Sci Fi , i love books about history , but tend to go for the light hearted stuff as its easy to digest at 3 in the morning

You *must* read The Book Thief.

I always recommend "Cold Mountain" by Charles Frazier as well...its the novel that started me reading again.

Something lighter: Garden Spells, or The Sugar Queen by Sarah Addison Allen.

"My Sister's Keeper" by Jodi Piccoult, or the other one of hers that I couldn't put down was "19 Minutes". I haven't seen the movie of My Sister's Keeper but the book is just amazing and really makes you see the issue from all angles. I couldn't put it down! And there are not many books that are like that for me!

Mummy Tummy If you haven't seen the my sisters keeper movie DONT! I read the book and loved it and when i saw the movie i wanted to throw something at the tv lol. They even changed the end, not cool.
