I have started listening to the audiobook "The Slave Across the Street" which is the autobiography about a girl in Detroit who was from an upperclass family, but was raped and then forced into sexual servitude for two years as a teenager ... it's pretty full on.
I am still catching up on the old classics. Read Anne of Green Gables earlier in the week and now onto Anne of Avonlea.
up to a new book ... decisions decisions ...
or is it time for a season of mags? I still have a few from September 2010 which my sister bought me when I was in hospital that I haven't cracked open yet
It's the middle of nanovember... you've got time to read???
I just finished An Idiot Abroad - travel diary of Karl Pilkington. Took me ages tho cause morning sickness and exhaustion kept winning.
I started Son Of A Witch (sequal to Wicked) last night and im already hooked =)
sent via my vortex manipulator
Nanovember, love it!
I just finished "Fall Girl" - the last few books my book club have done have been poor so I chose one that was light and fluffy and it was spectacularly light and fluffy - started it 2pm Saturday, read for about an hour Sat, then train trip in and out to work Monday, in and half way out today and finished it.
Not much to it but set in Melbourne, so loved the references to things I knew, esp Melbourne Uni.
OP: will have to borrow Fall Girl ... :)
MD: yes, but have hit a hiccup with Nano ... struggling ... struggling ...
I decided to shelve the mags for another year, and have picked up a second hand book I bought a while ago called "I remember you". English chick lit, I think.
Finished reading 'The Bride stripped bare' and 'With my body' both by Nikki Gemmel and am back to reading 'Under the dome' by Stephen King.
After finishing The Slap I needed something light, so I am now reading Patricia Scanlan - Love and Marriage. I love Patricia Scanlan, this book is a follow on from a couple of her other's, so it's the continuing story.
Im reading a book I found at my IL's called My Place by Sally MOrgan. Aussie book, really really great stuff, am about halfway through! Prior to that I finished off Brother Fish by Bryce Courtney which I loved and couldn't put it down.
I finished reading 'The Help" the other week and since then Im bookless.
I find that I am really picky when Im pregnant when it comes to reading. That book was the 8th book Ive started since been pregnant, and the 1st book Ive finished. Since I finished it though Im on the hunt for something new that I can read before sprout comes along. But I havent found anything that really sounds good.
finished "I remember you" while on hols, and have been chowing down the mags since :)
I just finished The Sending. Very ho hum about it. It annoyed me in the beginning that Carmody felt the need to explain everything that previously happened (like, why Dragon was in a coma, where Matthew was, relationship between Elspeth and Rushton). She did it in Keeping Place too and it's such an annoying obvious page filler that is completely pointless. You don't start reading the series half way through!!!
But it did get better. It was interesting to see Elspeth's quest finally start, but I don't like the way it ended somewhat hanging...who knows how many years we have to wait for the final book. The publisher is saying next year, but we've heard that before.
Now I'm onto My Sister's Keeper. Never read it before. Haven't seen the movie either.
I read The Sending recently too. I was so disappointed to realise I had just read 750 pages of nothing & I still had to wait for yeat another book. I hope it doesn't take as long this time. I'm sure when I first started looking for the release date for the sending it was sometime in 2006 & it only just came out with an extra book in between and another one to come when it was all supposed to be one book. She really drags it out :(
I read My Sister's Keeper before reading The Sending. I enjoyed it. I watched the movie straight after as I had taped it off the TV while reading it. It was pretty good too. Enjoy!
I'm now reading book 2 of the song of fire & ice series - A Clash of Kings.
Yep, that's publishing for you. I was told that the book was finished but it went back to her for a final edit. Then it became too large for one book. But I saw a you tube vid a few weeks ago and she was saying she can finally finish it because she can see how it's going to end. So really, nobody has any idea if it's finished or not. I find it disappointing that publishers and editors put the dollar before quality - constantly repeating and explaining her story doesn't make for a good read and if should have been fixed before it was released. If they had scrapped all the repetition, then the two volumes would have been one. Getting off my soapbox now!!!!!
Oh I totally agree. It's really ruined the whole series for me which is a shame because it started off so well. I want to know how it ends so I will keep reading it. Have you read the Darkfall series too? I am still waiting for book 3 in that. I have decided I am never ever going to read one of her books/series again (apart from these ones). If I have to wait 10 years + to find out how it ends, & then get a poorly edited read there's just no point. I noted quite a few glaring errors throughout the series which annoyed me.
