I have just finished 2 books by John Grisham, The Confession and The Litigators. I have always been a fan of JG, the law and all its intricacies (sp?) just fascinates me, and he writes very compelling stories. I was in tears with both books. The Confession is about a young man about to be killed on death row within the week, when suddenly after all these years someone confesses to the crime. Very griping, and couldnt put it down. The Litigators is somewhat humerous, it is about 3 lawyers who have basically never seen the courtroom and suddenly are suing one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the USA.
Am now reading The Drop by Michael Connelly, one featuring Harry Bosch. Only a few chapters in on this one so not quite sure what's happening yet, but he is a cold case detective working one cold case, and one fresh case.

What is it about? it's a collection of stories of twelve African women - including a belly dancer, a former child soldier, a genocide survivor, a grandmother who is caring for her HIV positive grandchild after losing her daughters and one grandchild to the disease...
Are you enjoying it? Yes, I'm re-reading it. Sara writes beautifully and with compassion. The stories are fascinating and while they give a disturbing insight into the darkness of humanity, they also show the strength and faith that gets these women through. It puts my first world problems into very harsh perspective.
Ive just finished reading "The Shifter" series of books by Rachel Vincent. Its kinda focused at the teen market but its a good read but to me it was definitely more adult focused than Twilight.
The 2nd last book wasn't my favorite (I think there are six books all up) but the rest were pretty good if you want something light to read.
Manhattan - I read The Drop a couple of months ago and really enjoyed it. Its not earth shattering writing or anything, but good fast moving stories.
I'm STILL reading Shantaram. Been having lots of headaches lately which has made reading difficult. Still loving it and would love a week where I can just get stuck into it.
Lulu - that be one mammoth book to read! but have to say, was a damn good read! Rumours are Johnny Depp would be staring in the movie!:

I could see Johnny Depp as the main character. I wonder if they're going to keep him as an Australian or if they'll "Americanise" it?
No doubt *americanise* it ... here's hoping they don't!
Have been reading about it after my last post, and seems they have been trying to get it into production since bloomin 2005!!!
*However the author's website says he expects to complete the screenplay by the end of February 2012*

I'm currently reading Jane Eyre. I downloaded the Kindle app onto my phone & tablet so I'm reading it there. It started to bore me to death because there was so. much. talking! And not even about anything interesting.
But now I'm loving it! Would like to have finished it before starting work next week because then I'll have zero time for it, but oh well. Would like to read The Hunger Games after this. Have also found many titles in this thread to add to the list :)

Oh purplepixie, I have read Gogo Mama. I was given it as a b'day present. What an eye opening, heart breaking AND heart warming book. I love Sally Sara. She is an amazing woman. You have just reminded me to check whether she has written about Afghanistan yet. She has been reporting from there for years now.
Manhattan, I love Grisham. The Confession is very sad but a great book. Won't say more in case someone wants to read it- you should! The Litigators is quite hilarious. Grisham has a great sense of humour- sometimes very subtle. The Street Lawyer is another great book of his. And Grisham now has a teen fiction series- Theodore Boon.
I finished my first Connelly book yesterday. The first book in the Harry Bosch series- The Black Echo. I loved it (you were right OceanP!). Straight after I finished it, I downloaded the next Harry Bosch on my kindle- Black Ice.
I am all set for a while. Have just loaded my Kobo with 3 new books.
Cathy Kelly has just released two new books, The House on Willow Street and Once in a Lifetime.
I also have Sophie Kinesella's new one, I've got your number.
I finished The Descendants, I loved it. Quite sad in places, got caught out again on the train with the tears :lol:

I am reading '50 shades of grey' after reading an article about how it began on an Internet forum and was uploaded in installments, to then end up topping the new York times best sellers list.
Its been describes as 'mommy porn', i'm not sure why specifically mums, but, Oh... My...! I've never read a book with my hand over my mouth the whole way through!
I didn't read *any* of the books I packed for the hospital!

and surprisingly, with a 21 month old and a 9 day old, I haven't picked any of them up since getting home ...

I've just read 2 more Connelly novels on my kindle- The Concrete Blonde & The Last Coyote.
Tonight, I started Midwives by Chris Bohjalian- a novel about a homebirth midwife, told throught the eyes of her daughter. My MW loaned it to me. Otherwise, I would have started on another Connelly novel.
Appletree- I am intrigued by 50 Shades of Grey. Off to google to find out more!
You're really reading Midwives, Ash? It is SOOOOOO good. I found it in a park a few years ago, quite fortuitous, and I loved it.
I'm reading Dead Europe by Christos Tsiolkas.
