I have just finished tomorrow, when the war began by John Marsden. A group of teenagers goes camping and thier country is invaded while they are gone. It is aimed at adolescents, but I heard all the hype of the movie and wanted to see what the book was like. It is actually quite good and I will be getting the next one in the series.

i was just thinking the other day that we needed a thread like this!! and i LOVE carl hiaason books!

What are you reading? the girl who played with fire

    Who wrote it? stieg larsson

What is it about? it's the second book in the millenium series (first was 'the girl with the dragon tattoo') and is about a girl/woman who comes under suspicion of murder.

Are you enjoying it? i'm not very far into it yet but i am enjoying it. i found the first book hard to get into - lots of different characters, different writing style (well, i hadn't read any of his books before) but i think i'm on his wavelength this time so it's much faster to get into this book. he also doesn't have to spend quite as much time introducing the main characters.

I'm just in the first chapters of this too. I loved the first one and like you said, there were so many characters to keep up with especially if I didn't get to read every night I had to try and jog the old memory. I'm just up to a really good part and can't wait to get into it tonight.

What are you reading? Anna Karenia

Who wrote it? Leo Tsolsky or something stupid like that

    What is it about?
Anna is a married woman back in the whatever hundreds (horse and cart day) in Russia, she has an affiar with someone in the military, so it is about their story. It also interwines with other people such as Levin who is a farmer who is in love with Kitty, but she rejects his proposal early in the story as she is hoping that Volonsky (who Anna has the affair with later) proposes, but he doesn't. Also has the odd story crop up about Anna's brother Stephan.

Are you enjoying it? can take it or leave it. But being an 800 + book I borrowed from the library I am trying to read 50 pages a night to get it read.

Reading it cause it is on the FaceBook 100 book list challenge and I want to read as many as I can from the book list this year as I hadn't read very many of them.

What are you reading? "The Help"

    Who wrote it? Kathryn Stockett

What is it about? Set in Jackson, Mississippi, 1962. It follows the story of 3 women, 2 black maids and a white woman.

Are you enjoying it? I am enjoying it. It's interesting and entertaining. I'm pretty picky on the types of books I choose to read, so it's hard to find a book that I think I might enjoy.

I'm reading it because it's on a few bestseller lists and the storyline seemed really interesting. Plus the reviews online talked me into it.

What are you reading? A time of exile

    Who wrote it? Katherine Kerr

What is it about? (it's book 1 of a 3rd series of 4 series set with the same characters and world - if that makes sense) its a fantasy medieval type of world with elves, magic and men (and a few dwarves) - it's kind of hard to explain because the characters are re-incarnated (sort of) and you follow their "soul" lines. Somewhere the whole set of series is described as a celtic knot (book one of series one is called Daggerspell)

Are you enjoying it? yep mainly cause I haven't read it in a while.

Right now, nothing. Stalking the thread for suggestions, but considering picking up my old faithful Lord of the Rings again - been a year or 2 since the last time I read them.

Read the Tomorrow series as a kid, loved them and still do - movie was ok but the books are way better.

What are you reading? Royal Assassin

    Who wrote it? Robin Hobb

What is it about? Fantasy, 2nd of the Farseer Trilogy, it follows a royal bastard whom is sworn to protect heir to the throne Prince Verity and Verity's new bride, but his task is complicated by an invasion of vicious barbarians who turn helpless captives into zombie-like Forged Ones. The home front is no safer, with an ailing King and usurpers to the throne waiting in the wings. Romance, sibling rivalry, battlefield exploits, betrayal, political intrigue and telepathic magic insure that there's never a dull moment in the Kingdom of the Six Duchies. (most of this synopsis borrowed from Amazon)

Are you enjoying it? Yes I love my epic fantasies, and this is richly detailed and characterised.

Another one here that looooves the Tomorrow Series and Ellie chronicles And a die-hard Harry Potter, Twilight and Sookie Stackhouse fan

ooh Beatrix, that Black Dagger Brotherhood series sounds delicious!!

Ree*Ree - I love the whole Farseer Trilogy & the Tawny Man Trilogy & The Liveship Traders Triolgy!! Love Robin Hobb!! (Except Forrest Mage ****e & not impressed at all with the coninuation of the dragon saga - she should have left a good thing well and truly alone...)

These are some of my favourite books. Let me know when you've finished the lot & we'll talk PS they get better with 2nd & 3rd readings too

I'm reading 'Snow Falling on Cedars' - enough said! lol. I'm sorta enjoying it. I'm not getting much reading time & I'm not good with books to just read them here & there. I like to read a novel in a week or 2, not over longer than a month - I'm just not finding time atm!

What am I reading? The Slap

    Who wrote it? Christos Tsiolkas

What is it about? At a suburban barbecue, a man slaps a child who is not his own.
This event has a shocking ricochet effect on a group of people, mostly friends, who are directly or indirectly influenced by the event.

Am I enjoying it? The first few pages I found hard to get into, but I'm now halfway through the book and quite enjoying it's different angles.
