I'm reading Christopher Paolini's latest book, Inheritance. Finding it hard to get into, anyone else have this problem? I want to love and devour it like Eragon and the others, but I just can't :/

I am reading The Art of Friendship by Erin Kaye. I thought it was going to be light hearted, it has some really confronting issues :o
I was holding back the tears when I was reading it on the train the other morning
It's a great read and shows just how friendships can really be put to the test.
I've read a few over the past few weeks.
The Cathy Kelly short story collection "Christmas Magic" left me feeling...Meh. Just how I feel at the end of every short story collection I've read. No reflection on the author really, just that I don't enjoy them.
Sisterhood Everlasting by Ann Brashares, which is the final in the Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants series, was sensational. The previous book was supposed to be the final one, but it left me feeling lost and wanting more. And so there was a surprise one! Finishes off the series really well, broke my heart and made me cry. Worth reading the series, even if you aren't a young teenage girl  (The final one is a few years on, so they're all in their 20's)
Getting Personal by Chris Manby was pretty good. Predictable, but fun anyway. I've had it on my shelf for years and decided to give it a go. Figured out what was going to happen by page nine, but still a page turner. Light and fluffy.
Where Rainbows End by Celia Ahern was great. Another one that was just sitting on the shelf. She wrote P.S. I Love You. This one was all in letter form. I really enjoyed it, and it made me wonder why I hadn't read anything else by her before. Starts off when the main characters are seven years old, and finishes when they are fifty.
Not sure what's next. Will raid what I've got tonight and see what takes my fancy.
The Street Sweeper by Elliot Perlman.
Oh. My. God.
I was so desperate to sink my teeth into it after Seven Types of Ambiguity - I was desperate for more, and I finished all 500-odd pages of this one in a week, and was again desperate for more, for "dessert" so to speak. Then I realised that this book *was* my dessert. So now I'm back to waiting for him to write something else.
Yes yes yes! Girl with dragon tatoo is Definitely worth the read! Once I got into it I loved it!!! Read the whole series quite quickly after that!
AFM - I just finished reading 'Sister' by rosamund lupton
About a girl who's sister goes missing and she doesn't agree with the police investigation. It's written as the sister tells the story to a lawyer over a series of sessions and tells her journey to find her sister.
I bought it out of the 2 for $25 shelf at target on Friday..... Finished it already!!!
Ahhh. What to read now!?! It's hard to find decent bookshops to browse at now too!!! Maybe a library visit is in order......
Ps... Love Harry potter!!! And traci Harding - the ancient future series :) AND trudi carnarvon - the black magician trilogy
I love reading!!!
Great thread!!
I'm reading a book by ... mental blank - the woman who wrote Sex In The City ...? It's called "Trading Up" and I'm not enjoying it much.
Next on my list is a non fiction book about human trafficking ... I'm guessing something light will be in order after I finish that!!
I just finished The Hunger Games Trilogy! - Suzanne Collins
Read the first 2 in a couple of days....made the last book last a week! Sooo didn't want it to end! Awesome read (even if targeted at teenagers! hmph)
I attempted the girl with the Dragon tattoo and it was a bit of a snore fest and I lost interest... I'm reading The tomorrow series now (Tomorrow, when the war began...) which I'm quite enjoying (and it's extremely easy to read with little ones around!;))
One Of Our Thursdays Is Missing by Jasper Fford. I love his Bookworld stuff, although this is very different to the first five in the series. Still good, just different.
Oooh I loved the Tomorrow series too!
I've just bought The Hunger Games, can't wait to start that.
ATM, have gotten right into a book called "Pulse", by Acacia Green. It's the first book in a series (The Binuit-Namri chronicles) and it is actually written by one of our very own BB members. She's only published it on Kindle, but I got one for Christmas so I thought I'd be supportive and download it.
I am really enjoying it! Bit like Twilight meets Hitchhiker's Guide meets... what was the movie with the aliens made out of light? Can't remember. Anyway, it is pretty good so far!
If you've got a Kindle, give it a look. It's quite cheap too!
There are 3 more books called the "ellie cronicles' when you finished the tomorrow series....they are what happens when the first series ends and i enjoyed them just as much as the tomorrow series!
I got a Kobo for Xmas and have read so many books already I'm loving it.... cant even remember what I have been reading - Vampire diaries (not so good after the third book), hunger games (fantastic) and lots of James Patterson books. I think DH regrets buying it for me as he says my nose is always in it.....
I bought the Tomorrow Series and Ellie Chronicles last year to relive reading them from my school days - I still love them just as much!
Another fan of the Tomorrow Series and Ellie Chronicles. The rights have been given for the second film to go ahead too, with production to start sometime this year.
Helle - was it a bad storyline for Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, or just slow? I've been thinking of reading it, but my attention span isn't great at the moment.
Anyone who has read My Sister's Keeper and seen the movie - I've heard the ending is different. I'm guessing the only way it could be different is to go the complete opposite of what happens to the sister who is a donor?
PRM, it's just really slow, I think. I'll probably give it another chance once I've finished the tomorrow series. And now the Ellie cronicles! That's for that! Totally heart having a kindle. Easy book access! ;)
I read Girl with the dragon tattoo but didn't really enjoy it - it was a book club book. Didn't feel the urge to read the other ones. It starts slow but does pick up pace... but it isn't a pleasant book, IYKWIM. The writing is fine, just the subject matter isn't nice.
DH is regretting my Kindle too. It is the most dangerous thing anyone could ever give me - I fancy reading a book, I can just download and read it! I hate to think what my credit card bill will look like this month. Especially as we had no TV for a few nights, so I just got a new book instead.
I've read my sisters keeper but I can't for the life of me remember what happens at the end... Or at the end of the movie for that matter!!
(probably because I'm a blubbering mess by that stage ;))
Hi,
Hope I can join.
I am reading Bloodlines by Richelle Mead. It's teen urban fantasy. I read the other series of Richelle's, The Vampire Acamedy, and this series has characters from that series but is a new mystery.
Cheers Jubear
My hubby keeps asking if I want a Kindle.
I just can't imagine not *holding* a book when I read. IYKWIM?
I just keep ordering from bookdepository dot com . Cheap and free postage! weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Nikky I was the same. But I love mine. I can curl up in bed and read laying in my side without having to worry about the other side of the pesky book being awkward to put somewhere. And I just plonk it on my knee when BF DD :)
Catcher in the Rye :)
I just finished reading the twilight saga.
Loved breaking dawn - and very sad there aren't anymore :( they aren't the type of book I normally read so it was a nice surprise I got through them so fast. I normally read real life books - Cathy glass, torey Hayden ECT.
Now though I'm off to read text books :( I have a big box at home with unread books I'm dying to start but there is just no point while at uni/ work/ making cakes because the spare time I do get I try to make up to my dd!!!

I also really like the Tomorrow series and the Ellie chronicles ...
I loved the Girl With The Dragon Tattoo series too - his writing style is very distinct and jarred a little for me personally, but I didn't find it to be too problematic ... my sister gave up after the first one though, because of the style etc.
With My Sister's Keeper, I've only read the book, but I did read a plot summary for the film, and yes, the ending is totally different. I've written something below in white - highlight it if you want to read it ... otherwise, spoiler alert!!
In the book, it's revealed during the Trial that Anna has only been making these claims and bringing the court action because her sister has asked her to ... she is tired, and is ready to die. She would willingly continue providing donor parts and products for her sister - but her sister wants to be allowed to die in peace. Anna then dies in a car crash, and Campbell steps in and Anna's usable organs are harvested (including the kidney) and her sister goes into remission.
In the movie, Anna and Jesse admit that Kate wanted them to being the case - and (as per the book) Anna was still willing to go through with the op. Kate dies at the hospital, with her mother beside her. After Kate's death, Campbell finds out that Anna won the case. The family moves on, but every year on Kate's birthday they go to Montana (her favorite place)
So yeah, totally different. I think the book rocks.
I'm still reading Song of Ice & Fire by George RR Martin. I'm at book four & am very disapointed to learn there are more to come :( I thought that would be it. I jsut want to know who wins! (Don't tell me :p)
Tomorrow & Ellie are the best. I have read them over & over countless times. I got the first three for my 13th birthday. I still love them.
My Sister's Keeper - I have read this & seen the movie. I was very disappointed that they changed the ending. The ending in the book was much better and very unexpected. I guess it was too much for the hollywood crowd to handle. Peanutter - I thought it was the other way around? I can't check though as I deleted the movie & sold the book. You're probably right though & I'm losing my mind.
Nikky - I'm the same re holding a book. I can't imagine using a kindle.
I had completely forgotten about that ending in the movie, P.
I thought the book rocked too. Movie, not so much.
okay Im cornfuzzled about My Sister's Keeper.
I haven't read the book, but watched the movie.
Um, what you said happens in the book is what happened in the movie I watched ???
Yeah another that much preferred the book of Sister's Keeper over the movie.
As for me I am currently reading Madame Bovary. Haven't really read it in a while. Struggle to get into it, but about 2/3rds through.
I have downloaded a sample of Caitlin Moran's book called How to be a Woman on my iPad.. Has anyone read it? I have nearly finished the sample - about 40 pages and will definitely be buying it.
Can I come and play with you ladies?
I loved The Girl with/who series too. I thought the first one was the hardest read in terms of geting into -the next two I thought you fell into pretty quickly. I saw the new movie of Dragon Tattoo on Friday and was really glad they had stuck to the book pretty faithfully. I hate it when they change things to make them more Hollywood!
I've just finished reading Jo Nesbo's Headhunters. He is supposed to be the next Steig Larsson, so I read the I think one book of his that doesn't have a continuing character to give them a try. I really enjoyed it - pretty light, easy read although the subject matter wasn't overly light ITMS.
Now reading Shantaram by can't remember who at the moment. Quite a difference in writing styles to what I've read recently but really enjoying it. Its a doorstop of a book though, so I'm looking forward to the girls starting kindy and pp next week so I get a chance to really get into it.
Agree on struggling to adapt to a kindle - can't imagine not turning proper pages etc. Will give it a go one day - my Mum got one for her birthday late last year and I was going to try it but some delightful people broke into their house last week and stole it (among a ton of other stuff)
ohhh Shantaram is AWESOME! and yes, quiet a huge assed book!
I just finished the 1st book in the game of thrones series, going to try get the 2nd book this week.
Peanutter - I'm confused. That's how the book ended. I assumed that in the movie (spoiler alert - highlight next bit) that both sisters lived. I figured Anna dying was too much for the film viewers. Like in the Horse Whisperer when Tom doesn't die at the end in the film, but it was a brilliant heart wrenching ending to the book.
I HATED how they changed the ending of Horse Whisperer. It had so much more significance than just someone dying. Grrr to Hollywood.
i loved the girl with the dragon tattoo series. i agree that the first was the hardest to get into - different sort of writing style, lots of names to get your head around etc. whereas the 2nd & 3rd books had the same characters & you already knew the background. i definitely thought they were worth persisting with. i'm looking forward to watching the movie. i also have a copy of the swedish movie at home that i really must watch as well.
i'm desperate to get paid this week - i want to order the Game of Thrones books. can't wait! DP loved the series but i'm a reader so when i found out it was based on books i decided i MUST read the books. hopefully i'll be reading the first one by next week :)
I know LuluHB. It was a perfect ending to the book and there's no reason why it wasn't kept true in the movie.
The director of Tomorrow When The War Began is also directing (and screenwriting) the next one and is considering a massive change in there too with one of the characters. I don't understand why they want to change things when the book is a bestseller - it doesn't need to be altered or "improved". Just leave it true to what people know and love.
I am about to start reading Catherine Alliott - A Rural Affair. I have just finished Isabel Wolff - The Very Picture of You and really enjoyed it.
Hey OP, I was the same with the Twilight series, didn't think it was going to my kind of thing. I raced through them!
Has anyone read the Hunger Games?
I'm thinking of reading them before the movie comes out

The Mighty Toddler, Robin Barker..... flicking through it trying to gain insight into the mind of an almost 2 year old!
.....What do I want to read? Game of Thrones series and escape into a world without an almost 2 year old!
