I haven't got to borrowing game of thrones in hard copy but I did find a different kindle book to read and enjoyed reading that so I think that I need to get either game of thrones in hard copy or see if I can get it in a kindle friendly format.

my dp loves the books as well - not because he reads them but bc they are a guaranteed birthday or xmas present for me that i will love!
im half way through game of thrones. im enjoying it but rely on hosp appts to get the time to really concentrate!

I read that ludicrous justification too, Lulu. There is nothing metaphoric about Jack Reacher's size. The books constantly refer to his size- his large shoe size, how he looks down at most people due to his height, etc. All the other actors will have to be shorter than Tom to make it authentic, lol! Tom is just too polished. I think I will have to see the movie just so I can assess how well the metaphoric approach works! Does anyone know when it is due out or is it still in production?
Nikky- there is a typo in sloane's post- it is LEE Child. Try and read them in order of release if you decide to give the books a go.
Leckert- that is sounding positive then. Once you get a hard copy of the book you should get right in to it.

Someone like Jim Caveziel would be so much better as Reacher. He does the brooding, silent type so well

Stewed on Tom Cruise all the way home while reading Reacher on my Kindle. Boo. Really not happy about that. I read that thing as well about the height being just one facet of his personality. That is such utter bollocks. I think the same article said that so many of Reacher's "situations" start because of his size - he is in the wrong place at the wrong time but because of his size he gets sucked into the scenario. And becomes the unlikely hero and uses his height/size/presence to his advantage. The one I'm reading now (Persuader - had to check) has a whole sub plot going on about this tough guy, Paulie, who is bigger than Reacher. And automatically he is on steriods because no normal person is bigger than Reacher :lol:
Hmm, Jim C... I think he'd be great. I'm loving that show he is in currently on Ch 9.
Nikky - give them a go. You can pick up the early ones (started with "Killing Floor" I believe) for quite cheap in most book stores I think. On Kindle they are pretty cheap too.

Ocean, Tom will have to go on steroids in prep for the filming. He will never 'be' Jack. It's embarrassing really.
I am reading my Connelly book in large paperback format and I am not loving it. The book is cumbersome and awkward to hold while bf. I much prefer reading on my kindle now. It is light. And I can increase the font in low light situations. And there are food stains on some of the pages of the book - yuck! - where a library patron has spilt their lunch while reading.

Ewwwwww. I am so OCD about my books - no breaking spines, folding pages etc. My books all look like they've never been read. I never, ever lend them to anyone and can't borrow books either from friends or the library cos I hate all the damage they come with.
I really think I need to get a kindle. Just not sure if I'll deal with the whole no paper in my hands thing. Do you all find it an easy adjustment or does it take a while to start to love it?
I'm currently reading (and have been for some time, just been too busy lately) the second book in the Eragon series: Eldest. For about the 10th time :)
Haha Lu I am the same with my books. Would you believe I reluctantly loaned my Lord of the Rings trilogy to someone I was working with and then while he had the last one he left the company :o
I was devastated that I'd lost the third in my series... and then I randomly bumped into him just recently and asked about it - he still had it and posted it to me. Woohoo! DH had been saying "just buy a new one" but it wouldn't have been the same as the other two, it was an older print, and that would have annoyed me intensely.
ETA: love my Kindle. Have you seen one before? I had used my dad's a little bit so I sort of knew what to expect. Otherwise I think it would take a while to get used to, with the page redrawing and stuff. It is completely different to the way a tablet/iPhone/iPad works, you need to get used to the "e-ink". But I adore it now. Comes everywhere with me. Never know when I'm going to need it :D
Lulu- I don't have a kindle but have over 600 books on my iPad.
I'm waiting patienty for a book set To arrive... The black dagger brotherhood. I have read them all before but borrowed them and now the new one in the series is coming out so need to refresh myself and I love them so brought them this time instead of borrowing.

Apparently the 50 Shades of Grey trilogy is classified as Mummy Porn. A friend of mine has a friend in the US and was explaining why it has become so popular.
It has become one of the the top sellers in the US due to the tablet/kindle phenomenon. As in, people cannot tell what you are you out in public or on on tablet so a lot more people are reading it :lol:

Currently reading "Anonymums" which is absolutely hilarious & awesome :) It's written by three Aussie mummy bloggers who decided to do three months of playing truth or dare each getting one truth & one dare in the month. So interesting the things that came out of the dares :)
I'm currently reading Eragon by Christopher Paolini. I vaguely recall the storyline from seeing the movie some time ago. Dragons & magic, random average person saves the world type of thing.
Thanks to all the chatter on here, I bought myself a kindle for DH & the kids to give me for my birthday. It's the first birthday I've actually looked forward to in a while ;) I still have a few weeks to wait though.
Peanutter, yes: buy and read. Very intelligent storytelling. It will end up being one of those books you read at school IMO.
Nutter - I read book 1 in one day, and book 2 the next. Now waiting for book 3 to be delivered, so re-reading 1 & 2 again while waiting.

But P you asked a while ago if it is similar to Battle Royale - I was telling DH about it and he said the same thing, it sounds really similar to Battle Royale! It does, but from what I read about Battle Royale (haven't read the actual book) it goes beyond, into the consequences of the games. It doesn't stop when the games stop.
Do it. Read them. You won't regret it.

have ordered the books ... so don't need new books right now, but if they're as good and as easy a read as everyone seems to say, I should be through them in a week or so, right? ;)
I have the urge to re-read The Forbidden Game trilogy, and the Bronze Horseman series too ... is it post-partum nostalgia, or am I just so tired that I want to read things I know well already, or are they just really really good books? I'm not sure ... but everytime I go to pick something new up, even if it's something I've really been looking forward to reading (like the Tina Fey book) I just put it down, and pick up something well worn and comfortable.
not that I've had much of a chance to read lately - I'm only getting 20 odd pages a day read, at best. I either have no time, no inclination, or I fall asleep after the first page because my poor little neurons are totally fried ...
so what am I reading tight now? subtitles on the telly, so I can have it on but very quietly while I feed DS2 ... that's what I'm reading these days!

Ladies I just read "I came to say goodbye" by Caroline Overington. Completely sucked me in and I read it in like a day. (thank God for MILs!)
Can't quite figure out if it is based on a real event or not but it is wonderfully written, with a lovely narrative, intriguing characters and a twisting, gut-wrenching storyline. Warning: you'll need your tissues. Several times.
Great read. Highly recommended.
PN, you'll love The Hunger Games. For me, it got tothe point of "Hmm, bub is finally asleep! I should do the washing so I actually have underwear. Or I should catch up on sleep. But I wonder what Katniss is doing..." I neglected everything when I was reading those books lol.
I've just downloaded A Game Of Thrones. I wasn't convinced I'd like it but decided to give it a good. Hooked already!
Just finished the Hunger Games series - loved them! Had no plans of enjoying them or even of finishing the first book but thought I'd see what the hype was about! A week later and a house severely lacking tlc, I've finished them :)

Just started Eragon. Loving it.
OP I am almost finished no 2 in that series. I like it better as it goes on. I found the style of writing in Eragon a bit difficult at first. I have since found out the author started writing it at 16 or thereabouts, so that explains it. He improves :)
So many books to add to the list. I saw 50 shades of grey at the bookshop the other day & thought "Is that that porno book I've been hearing about on BB?" lol! I got my kindle a couple of weeks ago so that might be one for that :p The help sounds good too. I haven't seen the movie. Any advice on whether to read the book or see the movie first?

Currently reading the griffin's flight by k j Taylor (book 2 of the fallen moon trilogy). It's fantasy and not bad at all. Bk 1 is the dark griffin.

I am getting a kindle touch for mothers day. I know I am because I ordered it myself! Should be arriving today but I'm not allowed to open it because it isn't mothers day. Cheezed off! I want to play with my new toy.
