Can someone recommend a really nice port?

Can someone suggest me a nice bottle of port? It's my partner's birthday today and he's been going on about getting some port for a little while! Something not too hard to get or hideously expensive - medium range

If you lived near me I'd recommend the Grant Burge port. I prefer the sweeter one but there are plenty more refined ones lol. Very cheap from the cellar door and they sell everything for it like small tapped barrels, glasses etc.

Is there a cellar door near you that you could check out? Lots of free tasting involved

My DH had a really nice one the other day, I'll ask what it was.

Off the top of my head, Penfolds Grandfather Tawny. It's about $80 a bottle, too expensive?

Another nice one I've had is Stanton & Killeen classic Rutherglen Tawny, that one is more like $35 a bottle.

The penfolds grandfather is really nice, but their bluestone (the next grade down at around $30 a bottle) is awesome too. My dad used to work for penfolds and even though we would get both a bit cheaper than usual, my DH actually liked the bluestone best (and he is a bit of a wine guy).

I was in a rush so grabbed Grandfather, 89.95 but Safeway had it for 99.95!!! Lashed out a bit since I havent had time or opportunity to shop somewhere good. I'll definitely try those others next time (for him I dont drink it) but in the country choice is very limited - Safeway liquor or a liquor store. Thanks heaps

Grandfather is a wonderful choice, he'll love it. A cheaper one that we really like is Galway Pipe.
