    Eggs... fridge or cupboard??

I appologise if this has been asked before

But... Where should you keep your eggs??

If i buy them in woolies they are in the fridge and if i buy them in coles they are on the shelf.

    Where are they best kept?

I keep mine in the fridge - seem to last longer, and ever since we kept them in a bowl on the kitchen bench as a kid on the farm and I cracked one after a couple of weeks of 35+ degree days.... **shudder**

Ours are kept in the fridge. Though, they are currently on the bench to be brought up to room temp before baking stuff.

i keep them in the fridge but i'm sure they're actually fine in the pantry. i always take them out if i'm baking though because eggs should be at room temp for that (i think!)

We keep our in the pantry (if buying them off the shelf) until we open them.... for some reason.
Sounds weird now that I think about it.

Apparently they last 3 times longer if kept in the fridge. (according to the local chook keeping lady who ran a workshop here a little while ago)

Apparently they go off much quicker if they are kept out of the fridge. Apparently you are also supposed to keep them in the carton so that they are not exposed to the air as much cos that makes them go bad too. Meh, we go through them so quickly they don't have time to go off!

    Fridge here.

I did an experiment when I was working in the restaurant and the ones on the bench went off about 4 weeks before the ones in the fridge.

In the carton in the fridge not in the door (much to DH's horror - what are the egg trays in the door for?!?!?).

Though saying that our temps and climate are fairly unique and we keep much foodstuff in the fridge.

You have to be careful with the fridge as they can take on smells from the fridge. (Ours are in the pantry)
