yoghurt balls...
I was thinking about this today as I munched on some moreish banana chips. What are some foods that *seem* healthy but really aren't.
I nominate banana chips, and caesar salad!!
yoghurt balls...
I know lots of people think museli bars and commercial yoghurt are healthy...
I think lots of people think commercial fresh strawberries are healthy... They are toxic time bombs they are sprayed within an inch of their lives. I always feel sick when I drive past the farms around here and they have pick all you want for $10 - and kids are eating them unwashed...![]()
Breakfast cereals - if there was truth in marketing most of them would be in the confectionary aisle.
Aaah yes cereal. Thhat does my head in. I have yet to find one that has no sugar. They are so choc full that you're right Pony they should be in the confectionary aisle... Grrrrr
I was going to nominate breakfast cereal and muesli bars too. Have you eaten Corn Flakes lately? I can't taste the 'corn' for sugar!
Roll ups and fruit sticks are another pet peeve of mine.
dried fruits ...
fruit juices ....
"health" waters ...
We don't have cereal apart from rolled oats - I just personally can't come at feeding my kids sugar for breakfast. I think those companies have a lot to answer for. My kids think I am mean for not feeding them "iron man food". I have tried to explain that iron man is on a sugar high.....
I'm the same Inanna. I refuse to allow my kids to go to school hyped up on sugar. i dn't care how 'uncool' I am. I do buy a small pack of Coco Pops as a treat on school holidays though.
The weet-bix are pretty salty. The kid's one has heaps less salt but we eat heaps so we finish those tiny boxes really fast.
Hot chips...well they are a vegetable...
Roll Ups are a pet peeve of mine
Commercial yoghurt
Philadelphia Cream Cheese - people seem to think that because it has way less fat than butter you can use 6 times as much of it?? lol
:yeahthat: Lime - and the fact that philly cheese barely resembles a food....
Roll ups, fruit sticks, muesli bars, those 'fruit' lollies, fruit juice poppers, colour cordial pop top drinks, custard cups - yogos, etc. Basically the majority of things people pack in their children's lunch boxes! rice bubbles, coco pops, any breakfast cereal that's not rolled oats, weetbix or maybe sultana bran. Even rice crackers can be bad if you eat too many.
My personal loves that I know arent' helathy - soy crisps, mmm, could eat the whole bag in one go, but full of fat!
The key is modertion - but parents need to be very careful of the amount of sugar and additives they feed their school children daily.
The only cereals I buy are cheerio's, nutri grain (odd occasion) & kids weetbix. Not sure if the cheerio's are as good as they say they are, but I agree with the sugar for breakfast thing. A friend of mine was shocked when she found out thats all they get.Her child is 6 & at the dentist every other month for something new. Says alot.
TBH, I can't think of any others off the top of my head. I hate juices & cordial. Only buy one a week & the kids get one a day.
Oh I know. Nutella! I hate the advertising for that stuff! Seriously...chocolate for brekky? Go for it kids. Great idea![]()
I have a vendetta against lunchbox crappolla too. It's disturbing how much sugar, additives & chemical is in lunchbox...![]()
