It depends if you want a sweeter style or just a standard one.

Yellow is yummy and very popular... as for sweeter ones Omni Blue is always good

then you'll be going for a sparkling white not a champagne (which can only be called a champagne if it comes from the correct area of France).

Jacobs Creek do a nice sparkling white.

Either go for the Seppelts "Fleur de Lys" or you can't go past ****atoo Ridge, it has a gorgeous colour, just a bit more special than regular champers, not too dry not too sweet and it's in the right price bracket too.

Omni Blue is a good one.

Grant Burge also does a nice sparkling.

My thoughts too Feebs Ricodona ruby and white are very yummy ( and I am not a big drinker but I can and will drink this ) If you look around you can sometimes get 2 for about $25 or less ( IGA normally has them on sale quite a bit as does wollies/safeway

Ditto what Schaz said LOL! I was just about to go on about Ruinart and how Moet is overrated LOL!

When it comes to sparkling wine it really depends, and everyone is soooo different. Some people like dry, some sweet, rose, red...

Fleur De Lys for sparkling white
Koonawarra Dusk is a Strawberry Sparkling which is quite nice, not too sweet.
Girls who like girly bubbles love Yellowglen's "Bella" which is sweet, pink and slightly lower on alcohol content.
Trilogy is nice and they also make a blend sparkling as well, I actually like this more than others as it reminds me of champagne. (can't remember how much though...)

It's about $13-$15 a bottle... unless you buy in bulk hehe

Yep, the pink Bella is quite nice... well priced. Last summer Liquorland had a special on gift boxed pink Bella which came with a Bloom (I think) lip balm. I stocked up and gave them to my neices as gifts... the feedback was very positive.

Other than that the only true champagne we drink is Moet & Chandon which comes from DH's work, leftovers from functions, so I don't know how much it costs. It's French so it's probably pricey.

If you want QUALITY, REAL champagne then you can't go past a bottle of Veuve Clicquot .

    So so insanely delicious!

When I was in the Greek Islands last year we went to this really gorgeous private beach that had a bar and on the drinks menu it had..

    Cristal - 200 euro

And then in teensy tiny print down the bottom it said "Prices quoted are per glass".

That is $390 per glass!!!!!!!!! I did wish I was rich enough to do it though...

Cristal is very nice. Its all down to the size of the bubble and with Cristal its TINY (we had a bottle in July). I'm really into Ruinart atm, second to that would be Cliquot for sure (for average priced champers), but I would also prefer Pommery over Moet. Oh and my absolute fave is Belle Epoque. I have a gf and a BIL who are champagne connoisseurs so we've had a few now.

Amy its cheaper than that here hon, you'd pay less than that for an entire BOTTLE! Yes its exxy, and its something most people can't do *all* the time, but for the experience its worth it, we still have the gold box in my cupboard

If you're after it for the Christening, I'd tend to go with something a little lighter & 'less champagne-y'.. if the makes sense?! )

I truly think Champagne is an aquired taste - some people just don't appreciate the finer things... don't waste your money

Whenever we have a special gathering, I always tend to get

    * Riccadonna (Italian sparkling - VERY sweet, but it suits most people for at least one glass.. and is good for toasts, etc)
Anywhere from $11.95 to $16 a bottle, but at 1st Choice you can get it for $9.95... bargain

    * Verdi (The low alcohol, less bubbly version of Riccadonna IMO )
About $10 a bottle, depending on where you get it.

    * Killawarra (For the 'dryer' taste - not sweet like the others I've mentioned, and they have stacks of flavours - standard, ruby.. and can I just say the new one Vanilla Kreme is a little bit yummy for $10.95 )

Rosemount also have a new one, called 'O' - about $16 a bottle and its light & sweet... not as sweet as the top 2 though.

HTH - I could carry on forever about what I like to drink & what I think is good... but you wouldn't want to be serving it at a Christening - too exxy to waste on guests if they're not into it
