    Shepherds Pie

I'm a doofus. I've never made Shepherds Pie from scratch, I always use Gravy Powder. DH HATES the tomato based Shepherds Pie (and its not traditional anyway ) so I've never done it that way. Anyway tonight I didn't have gravy, so I made it from scratch and it was WAY better than with Gravy, and a lot easier too...

To the meat/onion/garlic/herb mix I added 2 tbs flour, and 1 tsp seeded mustard and cooked it off for a bit then added worcestershire sauce, some soy and 1 cup of chicken stock. Added the vegies (I cook off some grated carrot & zuchinni first and save to add now along with peas & corn) and let cook for a bit. It really was the best!

Ah our "gravy" for shepherds pie is 1 cup beef stock, 1 tbsp worstershire sauce and 2 bay leafs, salt & pepper, simmer for 35 minutes or so with the veges etc in there. Then mix 2 tbsp flour with 1 tbsp light soy sauce and make a paste (if you need a bit of water do it) and then mix it through the meat.... thats my gravy sauce. Yum.... *drool* I need shepherds pie now.
