babies under 12 months shouldnt have lentils, as they cant digest them properly.
I don't think that is true as I got a dietician plan for my (vegetarian) baby when he was starting solids and she said "well-cooked red lentils from 7-8 months; well-cooked brown lentils from 8-9 months; well-cooked mashed chickpeas from 9-10months". She specialises in vegetarian and vegan diets.

Lovinoven - I will email you some information that I have been given if you like. PM me with your email address. Also if you contact the vegetarian society of QLD they give out free starter packs with lots of information including for kiddies. It doesn't beat a proper dietician plan but is a good start. I also have the details of the dietician I used who is very well known within the vegetarian/vegan community and does workshops etc. She does consults online so you don't need to be near her. Iron is important but arguably more important and less well known is vit B12 which isn't available in many vegetarian sources unlike iron, so a proper plan can help cover your bases (and saves lots of nagging from doctors!!)
