Talking The simple things in life

I just came back form the gym and I needed to have some protein and carbs in a snack so I had a chopped up banana with some yoghurt over the top and it was sooo yummy. Really simple and basic and so delicious!

Also last night all I wanted was a toasted sandwhich but I couldn't be bothered with the usual palava of getting loads of different ingredients like I usually do (tastes great but a pita) so I just had cheese and onion and it was so so yummy!

Sometimes I think it's really nice to go back to something thats really plain and simple - you forget how yummy basic flavours can be.

Does anyone else have any really basic, yummy foods they like to eat?

I couldnt go past this thread with out adding as you both have mentioned the two foods that basically make up my whole diet!!
I am a plain as jane eater all the time!!! Toasted cheesies (even minus the onion CQ!!! ) and peanut butter and jelly (or jam as i have been told to say it here in Australia) on fresh bread is the best!!!!!!!!!
My other favourite is the Kraft macaronni and cheese.... nothing else- just a bowl of macaronni for lunch!!

My poor Dh who does all our cooking is astounded at my "picky" eating.. lol but not in the sense that i like things extravagant and fancy- i want them plain and simple!!! lol We never go out to eat anywhere coz its a waste of time taking me anywhere but maccas or pizza hut!!! lol And its only since being pregnant and breastfeeding that i actually make sure i eat vegies!! lol

I LOVE basic foods! Toast with butter, mashed potatoes, I love anything that most people would turn their nose up at eating on its own!!

Cornflakes are something I've developed a liking for while pregnant, but I don't like it if their soggy so just put a little bit of milk in and tip the bowl so that they dont mix

Vegemite sandwiches on buttered fresh bread, with a glass of milk.

Actually just scoffed three and a half of these. The half was because I ran out of fresh bread! I had a lousy and small dinner, so was very hungry before I was about to go to bed, when I stumbled in here for a quick looky. It made me remember what I would eat as a child for a midnight snack if I was hungry!

Now off to bed with a slightly happier tummy!

Toast with jam and cheese - This is a stapel for me. I just LOVE jam and cheese on bread, wheter it's toast, rolls, french bread, pita ... anything.

    Salty Crackers with cheese

2 min noodles .. cooked, without the flavouring

    Apple cubes on Yogurt

STRAWBERRIES - that to me, is a meal on it's own ... come to think of it ... so is PEACHES!!

Spagetti , cooked and fried in the pan with just a tad of butter

Arimeh beat me to it, but white bread, jam and cream. Very yum. Also gingerbread biscuits with cream. And bowls of Nutrigrain with milk that you drink out of the bowl at the end. (Haven't done that for about 6 years!)

Jacket potatoes with butter, baked beans and cheese. Ready in 5 mins in the microwave and always yum.

Pesto pasta. Just cook the pasta and add good quality pesto. Super quick.

VERY partial to a toasted sandwich too.

Could easily get through half a loaf of olive bread just spread with butter.

The other night I had an apple scroll for dinner. Never had one before, it was bloody delicious.

I agree with Fiona - pesto on pasta mmmmmmm! DP and I do this around once per week - usually we add tinned salmon or tuna as well with a bit of cheese on top.

Also, hummus on rice cakes, rice bubbles and milk, plain vanilla icecream with nothing added (or plain natural yoghurt with nothing added).

    Ok, now I'm hungry

Gee, in my single days living on my own i'd often come home late from work and have a bowl of cereal with yogurt, dash of honey & skim milk ... and i'd think it was the yummiest meal on the planet

I still enjoy a spoon of Nutella if i feel like some chocie

Before I came here my most favourite dinner was an oaty cereal with tropical fruit pieces from tesco with plain yogurt on top... I could eat this 3 times a day and not get bored! I'm glad you all love the simple foods, I was beginning to think all ozzies had bad food taste :P

Avocado on toast with a little pepper and salt.
I usually have to make an extra piece these days so DS1 doesn't take it all and I actually get some now.

    Yummmmmmmmmmo!
