So enticing but always end up disappointed

Argh food magazines!! They always look really great, like they'll have heaps of recipes I'll want to try out, then as soon as I sit down and look through it there might be only one or two I'd actually ever cook or consider cooking. Urm what happened to all the nice looking/sounding things on the cover?!?

I know what you mean. I find even find some cookbooks the same. Sometimes the recipe sounds great until I take some time to read it properly, then I change my mind.

Oh, I'm so glad I'm not alone!! My mum is always giving me her AWW mags or whatever that have big cooking sections to see if there's anything new I can cook for DH (who claims not to be fussy, but is probably the fussiest person I've ever met!)... not a chance!! Most of the stuff sounds either icky, or just waaaayyy too complicated to be a '20-minute weeknight dash' meal!

Yes! SO know what you're saying! OR they're amazing but have this one ingredient that you can only buy in a half kg block and you only need 50grams and will never use that ingredient again ahaha

Oh, I sooo know what you mean. The picture on the cover always looks delish, then you read the recipe just to find out that you don't like half of the ingredients in the dish... I always end up having to chance half the recipe to make it suit both dp and I. Soooo anoying!!!

Also I am always disappointed with the amount of good (usable) recipes in those mags. They might have around 30 recipes, but you only like about 3 of them... Waste of money, I tell you! ;-)

Ooh, yes those 20-30 minute meals. They only work if you are un interuppted. Being hassled by small children means you need an hour, or the meal gets ruined because they hassle you at that one vital point and something gets overcooked or burnt.

Suggestion.. Go to the taste website. It pretty much has all the magazine recipes and you don't have to pay anything for looking

Know all about Taste, but I do love a nice cookbook. It is really lovely to be able to pick up a book and flick through it.

Yep totally agree with you all. I've stopped buying any and even gave away most of my cookbooks because even though I love love love to pore over them, there is very little of any use to us.
I actually prefer the weight watchers mag atm because at least there's stuff I've cooked in there.
Have to agree with the taste website for when I need something, or the Lifestyle Food one, but seriously there's nothing like a good book are mag to get the juices flowing.....just been a long time since I've found one.

I like the AWW "favourites" cookbooks, they are A5 size, have 40 recipes and are available at woolies checkouts - like Mince Favourites, Healthy Dinner Favourites etc. They are under $10 and I find I use a lot of the recipes from the books. Pasta Favourites are good.
