    Exclamation Non-stovetop recipes

    Hi!
I don't know if anyone can help me, but a few weeks ago our hotplate stove top decided to stop working. So all we have now is a bbq and an oven to cook with.

Does anyone have any good recipe ideas to cook with the oven or bbq (possibly microwave) that doesn't involve the stove top at all? I'm really hanging out for DH's spag bog, but we can't cook it coz guess what?! It needs the stovetop! Might just have to cook it at his parents place... Its getting really cold now by the time dh gets home, and he doesn't want to be out in the freezing cooking on the bbq, and I haven't the slightest idea on how to use it and he probably wouldn't let me (put it this way, he doesn't like me to use knives too often, coz I'm really clumsy and have always been so and always manage to hurt myself - totally accidentally i might add- with them so I don't think he's going to let me use the bbq on my own).

    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

You could do a pasta bake instead of the spag bol?
I bought a pasta bake sauce the other day and all i had to do was put the pasta, sauce, milk and some cheese into a dish and put in the oven. Didnt even have to cook the pasta beforehand. Very easy.

    Ren -

If you can nip into Retravision or similar, you can pick up "hotplates" for around $50. We're currently renovating and I have no stovetop either.

To cook spaghetti, I put boiling water into a large microwave-proof bowl with a lid, and cook it for the recommended time in the microwave on high. Break the spaghetti up to fit it into the pan.

Also get a slow cooker if you can - you can use this for lots of meal bases (like your spag bol sauce).

Or cook your spag bol base on the bbq in a frypan, reheat later when its time.

That's a thought, do you have an electric frypan? Great for spag bol bases and stirfrys!

we rarely use the cook top at home - electric fry pan, electric wok, oven and bbq get a good workout (and would be lost without the rice cooker) - basically anything you can cook on the stove top you can cook with those few things! we did it for over 2 years cos the stovetop in our old place was rusted and i wasn't real happy with the heat distribution it gave and i wouldn't use the oven cos it was old - we still cooked everything except pasta bake/lasagne things - everything else we could cook! if we were having pasta, we either cooked in the micro (rarely though, cos we had a little micro) or in the rice cooker - could also steam veg in the rice cooker - and i think the one we have cost maybe 30 bucks - and it still get used weekly!

good luck finding creative ways to cook without a stove top hun - it's definitely possible - and you might find yourself creating interesting new dishes for your family
