Nikolaus is now in grade 2, so he's done 3 years at the same school, had the same art teacher and **** I am so sick to death of her spelling his name wrong! I have said things in the past and she still does it.
I can understand his first name.... there is another boy his his class with the name but its spelt NICHOLAUS so I thought she might get it this year.
Then to top it off.......she keeps spelling our last name minus the o . Im really at my wits end and have been really tactfull todate with it but Im just about at the end of my teather now, especially as I said she has been pulled up on it in the past and has been his art teacher for 3 years!
It also gets Nikolaus down because he has told her how to spell his name and he said she just writes whatever and ignores him. I dont think its appropriate to behave like this with children and it seems to me that she is brushing Nikolaus off. Nikolaus is quiet sensitive and the one thing he 'owns' without his brother having anything claim on it is his name, so he is quiet attatched to it IFYKWIM
Im about ready to go and have a nioce little 'chat' with her to tell her my thoughts......What would you do in this circumstance?
i'd be saying something again Maz - it's not helping your son learn how to spell things correctly if she doesn't do it
if she still keeps her head up her butt, go to the principal and get it dealt with - you've asked nicely, HE has asked nicely - it's time to pull her up properly!
I agree with BG, go and speak *yet again* to the teacher, I would also make an appointment with the principal to voice my concerns and put it from the point of view that it is distressing your son.
but no, you need to deal with this - it can't help any childs academic progress if teachers are disregarding something like the spelling of their name!
I honestly think it's incredibly disrespectful to Jed & Yourselves and would be more offended about the incorrect spelling of his first name. To me it looks as though it is out of pure laziness and blatant disregard / disagreement for the way you have chosen to spell his name.
I think you have every right to be cheesed off about it. It is totally unacceptable and that behaviour from an adult is not something that a child should be exposed to - teachers are important people in childrens lives and get a lot of credit for the way they influence them.
What she is doing certainly isn't a good influence - for Nikolaus or any other child that sees it. She should act her age and show some flipping maturity and just spell his damn name right.
I had the same thing with my DD this year when she started prep as her name is Mayleaka but likes to be called May the teacher would ALWAYS write her name as MAY and even when Mayleaka was trying to write her name on her art work they would never help her out and just let her spelt it how ever she wanted without correcting her....
I have no advise though sorry but I do know how annoying it is when they cant get it right!!! and they are ment to be teachers....

My DH who is a teacher and gets every version of spelling of names always does a check of how they are spelt at the start of each year. We joke about it as sometimes he has 3 kids in his class with the same name but all spelt different. The surname is the same as everyone tries to put a "c" in ours and spell it one word. How is it spelt on his report/roll cause if its wrong there it is probably wrong on the main data base and the secretary should fix it.
God I can just imagine how much it must **** you off Maz.
We had a guy at the preschool Evan went too (he had a heart of gold) who was only young (about 18/19 I think)& had soem learning difficulties of his own. But everything that he wrote Evans name on came home with Even on it. I pointed it out a few times but the poor guy just couldn't get it.
We also now have Glenn coming home with stuff with Glen. The thing with Evan/Even I could let slide as the guy was really nice & simply has some troubles of his own.
But with Glenn its more annoying as its simple lack of checking, looking making sure you are correct.
Even Glenn preschool photos came back with Glen & not Glenn on the list of kids names for the group shot.
Im sure Isla will get Ila & this next one with we go with Iain will get Ian all the time also.
My dad keeps spelling Jensen's name Jenson. The amount of people who spell it the wrong way just frustrates me. People even spell my own name wrong, adding an extra 'n' to it (they spell Rhiannon instead of Rhianon, despite being told countless times how to spell it).
Oh Maz I feel ya! Everyone keeps miss spelling and miss pronouncing my name. I still find it quite offensive to my heritage ('cause I'm a German Knackwauscht, too ). My name is Katharina (pronounced Ka -ta-ree-na, all a's are pronounced like the one in "car"). When I first moved to OZ, I got called sooo many different names! Kate, Cathy, Caty, Cathrine, Katrina, Karen (), Katja (again WTF?), Kath (my absolute pet hate!) and Kat. Back home my nickname is Kati (pronounced car-tee, without the r!), but no-one even TRIED to get it right. So now (much to my mum's disgrace, who absolutely loves my name) I just tell everyone to call me Kat. As in Kitty-Kat. And you now what? They STILL get it wrong and call me Kath. Grrr Ahh, I just give up.
Sorry for the rant .Just wanted to let you know I understand how frustrating it is. And by the by, Nikolaus is spelled the right way after Saint Nikolaus. We celebrate his day every December 6th, where we polish our shoes and put them outside to be fiilled during the night by Nikolaus with lovely German chocolates . There are lots of lovely songs about St Nikolaus, too! I'll sing them to you when we meet one day! Now who's going nuff nuff?

I hear you! It's so annoying! Dd is named Amelie pronounced arm-eh-lee (sort of) but we always get Amelia, are-meer-lee, am-mar-lee or my fave that mil seems to always say is Amy-lee.I get when people don't know but, when they have been told it's just plain disrespectful.

My MIL bless her is clog wog (Dutch) and she informed me that her name in Dutch is Lambertha...and when her family immigrated over her the preist told them to change their names to more 'English' themed ones...she picked Elizabeth and told everyone to call her Betsy
The ARt teacher now spell's Nikolaus' name correctly....Im having the irrates with her now just writing 'Wil' on Wilhelm's work. I dont have to worry he lets her know I so cant wait for Vyolett and Mateuaz to go now
