my mum brought the machine and dies Sissex off ebay I will ask who she brought it from, cos she went to the same seller mostly. he really hasn't used it much but planned to sell diecuts and just didn't get around to it.
Might have to do some research on the sizzex then.. yeh was looking at them and the Cricut yesterday on ebay. The Cricut is only in america atm i think and is quite expensive.. is all done at the push of a button. Do you know how the sizzex works? Are the dies just cartridges or actual dies as in paints?
I know my parents were going to give us some money for our wedding (as we decided to get married at the registry while i was pregnant rather than have a big wedding) as they spent a fair bit on my brother and sister's wedding, so i might have to do a bit of arm twisting in the DH direction :)
cricut is about $800 at my scrapping shop but oh its so nice. they sell it with a set of alphabets to. sizzex is cartidges matie. (oh i think so anyway)
I know.. oh if only i could win lotto! Ive seen it online for around $500 but then i think you have to buy the cartridges. Someone needs to invent one that you can hook up to your computer and just print whatever you want.. if there isnt already one.

I emailed that person about the Cricut as it has a power adapter and i think its a USA one so cant use it here without a converter
we went tot the craft fair last year and they had the cricuit there, xyron actually makes one too, which is similar but smaller and cheaper, and the cartridges are cheaper too. Sisex is like a press really. The dies have pads with the shapes on them and you put the paper on this pad with a piece of perspects on top, you roll them or press trhem through and the shapes get cut into the paper. The sidekick is an other add on from what I understand. There is also one that does hook up to the computer, I am trying to remember the name, it has Robo in it. But that was about $800 too and you could use your co,puter to make the shapes, letters etc that you wanted and it laser cut them for you. It too was good but the $$$$ is the full stop!
Nah not going to buy one at the moment.. i was just curious as they said in their listing it was imported from the USA.

How often do they have those craft fairs do you know? Ive heard of one being in sydney too a while ago. Um would it be the Craft Robo? I noticed that on the related searches on ebay. Ahhh i want em all!

Make sure you buy an australian make of these and not american as some run off different power sources and a registered seller so you can return it if you have problems.
The cricut is better than xyron as xyron is a bit flimsy when you put cartridge in and its trying to read it.I went to a shop that sells both and this is what they told me.If i won lotto id buy the cricut. The sisixx you need a lot of space for all the cartridges and stuff.I can use one free at my local shop to cut what i like out.
Yeh.. i think ill probably just stick to the stickers atm i think.. theyre all way too expensive for me.. im sure the costs will come down over time.
Wish my local shop did that.. but its only small (and crap).. might have to see if theres one in Penrith or something..
At least if you got one of them, Caro, you could make and sell layouts etc. Kind of like the scrapbooking shortcuts ebay store (my heroes!! LOL - great for people with no creative flare like moi!).
Oh yeh id say the Cricut is 10 times better than the Sizzix.. not that ive used either but it would be alot quicker and easier id think ... and im sure theres alot more you can do with it than the sizzix. Also storage wise.. to do alphabets on the Sizzix it looks like you need a whole stack of different cartridges (like 1 per letter) whereas with the Cricut you have heaps of different fonts all in the one small cartridge. If i had the money id be buying it for sure.
Btw.. i bet the high bidder hasnt realised you cant use it here.. the US even runs on a different voltage to us so its not jsut the matter of getting a converter power plug its also the voltage.. id be peed if i bought it and spent that much to find out i couldnt use it here!
Yeh i know.. thats why i wondered when i saw that.. but unless you thought about it like that you wouldnt realise until you got it. And it doesnt show the bidder's name either, otherwise i was going to email them and tell them. Ahh well.. i guess they'll learn for the future but not a nice way to.

Caro go the cricut!! There are endless possiblities.Fantastic machine.Maybe you can make some stuff up like headings or people can place an order(girls fromm bb) and it will help pay for it?

Hey caro.. if you go to the cricut dot com website and click on products, then cartridges, then choose one and then click more/larger images, it shows you whats on each cartridge.
How much can you get them wholesale?
Caro,i can say i want "millana" in a particular font.You can do it on the cricut then sell it to me. But obviously a few done at a time for it to be worth it.Just a way us bb girls can some diecuts done if noones close by to do it.

If you have a laser printer you can print on clear sticker sheets straight from your computer. My mum sells A4 sticker sheets of any name you choose, she has the same name on the sheet printed in different fonts and also the name meaning. You just cut out the part you want and stick it on your page. She sells them for $4.95 a sheet. If you want to see them go to ebay and look at this number 270030249187.

We have an ink jet... would love a laser printer but they cost too much.. i print on Vellum and its ok.. hey.. with the whole acid free thing, will the vellum and what i printed last?
I am not sure bout acid free in relation to toners. I do know that my information on the clear sticker sheets is that they are acid free, coming from the company that makes them. A laser printing like a photocopier basically heat seals the toner and therefore it doesn't smudge. I had to buy a little black laser printer cost app $170 to print name meaning certificates people were buying from me as the inkjet printer ink was smudging no matter what setting it was on, and I couldn't sell them with smudgy ink. The coloured ones are way dearer.
Don't get me wrong I do take the whole acid free thing seriously, but I also think it is very hard to be 100% sure that what these companies are telling us about acid free and lignin free is true. My other issue with the whole acid free thing is that I like to put memorabilia and other items such as certificates and stuff onto my pages and they are def not acid free. eg things like leaves or feathers, the kids bracelets from hospital, I have put coins of the birth year on a page, Josh's kinder graduation certificate, party invitations. I guess my theory on it is I use acid free stuff where possible and if I am unsure about something I will still use it but not have it touching the photos themselves.
What does everyone else do?
I use heaps of different brands.. whatever suits really. I really like the Creative Imaginations (US brand) alphabets.. otherwise i use CM, Karen Foster, DCWV, Frances Meyer and others i cant think of.
I know ive used normal white A4 paper at times... would that be acid free? would have to look on the packaging but its in the other room and i cant be bothered :P
Um.. i stuck Jesse's and my hospital bands in his baby record book, but have his hospital card i want to use somewhere.. Ill use bits and pieces i think through time that wont be acid free, if it doesnt last then its a bummer but theyre something i want Jesse to at least have in his book as a memory.

My Mum and I are doing a white on white challenge together atm. It's quite hard. Am finding it really hard not using colour.

I mostly use CM stuff but this first album of Nixon is not a CM album, i bought it from Riot Art. anyway think i'll start buying the CM albums even though they are quiet expensive cause riot art discontinued that album i had and now have really crappy ones, which are always likely to phase out and change all the time.
Caro- u put it in perspective for me if im going to spend all this other money and all these hours doing the photos that i want kept for years then i mose well pay for a good album.
i havent ever heard of any of the other brands a few of you have mentioned.
Tiff- you will have to show us the finished product, so no colour on the pages at all? interesting!

I just did a CM scrapbooking day last Saturday, had lots of fun (had to take Nix with me cause dh went interstate, but he was so good didnt slow me down) got heaps of pages done too.
It's what they call a monochromatic layout. You try to use just whites (with some black if you and some small amounts of colour if you absolutely have to). Apparently, it's all about using different textures to add detail. It was in this months Scrapbook Creations magazine. So we thought we would give it a go.
Ok, Nic, will do, if it turns out, have never done it before, so am nervous.Trying to find white things in my stash has proven to be difficult.

I dont think it could get to those scrapping things and actually get something done.. im so indecisive and it takes me ages to work out what im going to do.. though, i do have alot of distractions with Jesse, i think may aid to it taking so long.
I got my album from the US... its C.R Gibson i think.. its all really good quality (well it looks it anyways lol)
Tiggy,those white on white layouts did look great! You could do it with any colour i suppose.I find that magazine quite a goodone for finding nice layouts to get ideas from.
Caddie, I agree, am liking it more than the Scrapbooking Memories atm. My fave though is Creating Keepsakes, there are just SO many ideas and so much info too.

At my first scrapbooking day i did a nice page of nixon's first snow trip. My consultant was quiet pleased with it but then said i better not show the others because i hadnt used cm paper or album!e
at the last meet i was over whelmed by what things people were doing. One ladt last year did 805 pages!! thats about 2 pages every single day wow!!
