Emily has had some sort of reaction today, which looks as though it is to do with what she ate at lunch. She was at daycare today, and the daycare lady has said almost immediately after starting to eat lunch (chow mein), she broke out in a rash over her face and upper body, eyes started swelling up, mouth swelled up and vomited. She was very unsettled after that, and still is.
Unfortunately, the daycare did not tell me until I picked her up this afternoon. But the rash is still there.
So what I'm wondering, should I still take her to the dr? Is there anything they can do? She had a total of 1 hour sleep today which is very unlike her. She has had some dinner, but not much.
Yes, take her to a doctor. Get a photo of the rash on your phone and give her some antihistimine. its scary, but once you work out what it is, things will be better. Ask them for a list of ingredients as well.
I agree with Ausgirl. You should have been informed IMMEDIATELY not at pick up time.
It does sound like a food allergy ot me. I'm just guessing here but if it was Chow Mein there could have been French Onion Soup Mix added to it. There is possibly something in that he is allergic to.
That is a pretty severe reaction to something and you should definitely get her checked out straight away. Ask your GP for a referral to an allergy specialist. Those symptoms are what DD got when I tried her on peanut butter and her allergy is so severe that I have to carry an epi-pen everywhere. It is MUCH better if you find out now as reactions can get worse the next few times.
I was happy I found out, it's a relief to know that I have the medication handy to help her now if necessary.
