Hi everyone. I have a 3yr old maltese x ****zu who has slowly lost her appetite over weeks. Started off 5 weeks ago she acted really strange, snapped at us and then vomited (more like regurgitated food). Ever since, she has been getting really snappy and refusing food. We've tried all options, giving chicken wings (which she loves!), canned food, scrambled eggs etc. We have got her some vitamins in a paste form which seems to give her some energy. She is drinking lots of water and finally stopped vomiting, but is losing so much weight!
Took her to the vet, few hundred $$ later, they still don't know what is wrong with her! Her liver tests came back slightly abnormal (which tells us nothing). The vet wants to do ultrasounds and put a camera down her stomach. They quoted us $2000 at least just for the tests and then if they find anything abnormal, they said they probably couldn't do anything about it! We love our dog, but with bub on the way, we don't have that sort of money to spare. I have had to stop work 2 months earlier than I thought, due to whooping cough, so the budget's running a bit low.
She is getting quite aggressive and I think confused. I am scared to go near her now. She even tried to bite DH.Got me a few times when I tried to feed her. She just lies around all day, too exhausted to bark or even jump up into her fave chair.
What shall I do? Where can I take my poor little girl? It is so upsetting to see her like this. She has started eating a little but not much. Any advise? What would you do?
It's horrible when our pets are unwell
Will she let you have a look at her gums? Are they pale at all? Does she run around at all, or just prefer to sleep?
I had to deal with my dog of 14 years being ill last year. It's not nice, especially when you have to make difficult decisions.
Hopefully she'll make a speedy recovery soon and return to her normal self.
