How do I get my white clothes white again??

I live where there is crappy water and I love white clothes. Can anyone recommend anything to keep whites white and/or return whites to white? I tried nappy san and even put vinegar in the wash...

Hang them on the line in the full sun. That may help. It helps with our white nappies.

yep I would add half a cup of bi-carb to your wash, and halve your regular washing powder - then add half a cup of white vinegar to the final rinse and then dry in the sun

How do you use bleach on clothes Boobaloo? I try the sun which usually works, but I've got a few things that need something a bit sterner.

if you look in the washing detergent aisle at the supermarket, there are bottles of clothing bleach, my fave brand is white king, that stuff works on anything, i use all thier cleaning products. however, even home brand basic bleach does the job. you can either put it through your wash cycle, or soak it in bleach and water. soaking works brilliantly, for some reason, we get a lot of mould here, and bleach gets the mould out of clothes when you soak them, and leaves the clothing really white. if you have mould on coloured clothes, there are some colour-safe bleaches around. just have a look through your cleaning aisle and you'll find some. hth

This is interesting as I read an old wives tale that said wash your whites with an item of clothing that is blue!
