what is it with real estate agents..

WHY are real estate agents to damn picky when it comes to leaving a rental property and cleaning? we spent 3 days cleaning up the house we are moved out of with 2 young children in toe and DH took the days off work. we had the brisbane floods to work with too. the real estate agent is now saying that we need to go and re-do the shower, blinds, etc etc ALL THINGS THAT WE HAD ALREADY CLEANED! or they will take 200 bucks out of the bond to get a cleaner in. i am so angry!

My ex agents were going to charge $450 or something for cleaning one cupboard and the top of 2 ceiling fans ... the bond was only $920. I feel your pain!! Atleast they are your EX agents now right?

oooh i too feel your pain!

the thing that REALLY irks me is that they let you MOVE INTO a stinking cess pit of grime and filth, but when it comes time for you to leave, the place needs to be a frikkin' better homes and gardens show home!!!! ARGHH!

we were once bitten by something similar. we fought it all the way and they backed down, but we have learnt our lesson. now with every house we move into we take photographs before the furniture is put in. and i make sure that i take close-up shots of any mould, stains, dirty ovens, marks, cracks etc. it is a real PITA, but since then we have had no issue. we also go over the condition report with a fine tooth comb and add EVERYTHING we see. even if it is a slight shadow of a mark on the walls. sounds crazy, but i feel heaps more comfy for when we move out. no doubt they will kick up a stink though...

i hope that things can be sorted for you guys and it can get resolved with no cost to you.

I know exactly what you mean! DH and I have had some bad luck with rentals and have had to move 3 times in 2 years, and every time the real estate picks up on something, no matter how thoroughly we've cleaned (and I am a real neat freak).
You spend so much time cleaning, and stressing about if it's clean enough, then the real estate comes back wanting you to do (or redo) something. One time we were asked to remove a cobweb from the outside of a window that I'm sure had been made after we'd cleaned! Sometimes I think they just come back with these little things to prove that they've looked through the place.

We are about to move again (into our own house this time, thank goodness), and I am dreading the cleaning (and re-cleaning) we'll have to do.

    dont even get me started!!!!!
our ex r/e decided it'd be fun to give us our bond back and THEN about 6 weeks later send us a bill for flea bombing the house.
Apparently the new tenants found flea's in the carpet and they were attatched to animal hair. now this is all well and good BUT we didnt have any animals inside the house and it wasnt a part of our agreement that we had to have to the house flea treated when we left.
So i wrote them a nice big long letter explaining to them that a) you've already givin our bond back, therefore u have been through the house and it was passable
    b) the house had been untenanted for 4 weeks(i had kept an eye on how long it took because the house is on the same street as DD's kindy) in the heat of summer and if they'd kindly take the time to look in the roof they'd see the rat baits we'd put up there to help with the mouse problem, we found mouse poo when we moved our fridge and washing machine and had been hearing them in the roof too!! was a very drawn out process but they gave up in the end.
Feel ya hun, they arent nice, hopefully it wont take much to bring it up to their standard!
