    Persistent cough

My DD who is 3 gets a cough at this time of year and it seems to last for months. Every few days I think it's gone and then bam, it's back again. I give her Olive Leaf extract and she has a vitamin (kids echinacea) as well as probiotics. Not sure what else I can do but thought I'd put it out there incase anyone has a secret remedy!!
    Thank you
Oh and it is prob not asthma. She does have allergies, we see a kenisiolgist for that. At allergy testing they said no asthma.

i was going to suggest asthma.
it can be seasonal at times and sometimes spured on by allergies
especially if she has allergies to things like grasses, or pollens.

also sometimes the colder air is harder to breath as it can be denser.

has she had a spirometry done? this is a clinical test for asthma and will give u a yes or no answer.

My DS is 2.5 and this is his third winter. Last winter he had a terrible persistent cough, recurrent croup and conjunctivitis. Geez we were miserable. Anyway, now that the weather's cooled down the cough and conjunctivitis are back great! The cough is worst in the morning and at night and when he goes outside into cold air. It sounds so awful but he's really not sick, he just has this awful cough. People give me terrible looks if they hear him coughing (like: "why is that child outside, he should be at home in bed" type looks).

There's nothing much we can do. We just try to keep him warm at night by making sure he has enough layers on and we heat their room with an oil column heater.

I'm taking both of them to the GP this Friday for a beginning of winter check-up. We are so lucky to have found a fabulous GP who is also a pediatrician. I'll let you know if he has any more useful tips.

    Hey girls

Just seen this thread and feel a lil bit better about both my DD and DS...they both have a consistant cough and yesterday went to the SIL place and they were all so concerned bout DS...we went to the doctor and he said his chest was clear and its just one of those coughs that will prob hang around for a bit considering the weather...its also like it tickles his throat and just keeps coughing, his is worse at night and morning... Same with DD.. shes actually on antibiotics that are about to finish, its her 2nd dose but the cough is still there...hate getting those looks, I know they are ok, always check their temps and give panadol if needed... I think young babies and children just get these coughs that are hard to shake until the weather warms up.

Make some onion syrup (google it). It sounds awful but its pretty much onion soaked in honey and strained off. It soothes the cough and you can give it to them as needed. I have a jar in the fridge for winter. It works.
