    Prednisolone - Safe in pregnancy?

    Hi everyone,

Hoping someone can help me as I have read conflicting reports on the internet.

To cut a long story short....I have adrenal deficiency (my dad has Addison's Disease) and I currently take 6mg of prednisolone a day. I started taking it in Sep 2007 and fell pg in Oct 2007 (2nd cycle of trying) only to m/c naturally at 6 weeks. We then ttc for 14 months before I had an op and discovered I had mild endo (which was removed) and my right tube was blocked with mucus from my first m/c. I conceived on the 2nd cycle after the op but unfortunately suffered a missed m/c and had a D&C on Friday.

My question is could prednisilone be causing my m/c? I have asked a few Dr's and they all say it is fine and maybe we have just been unlucky. I do trust my Dr but also wondered if anyone had any words of advice or experience with this?

    Thanks,

    Mel

Prednisone or prednisolone does NOT cause miscarriage. In fact, quite the opposite - it can be used to help prevent miscarriage.

I took 10mg of prednisone up until I was 20 weeks or so, and then reduced it to 5mg, but was never able to get off it completely. It does not cross the placenta so isn't going to effect the baby.

My FS and my rheumatologist were both happy to have me taking prednisone through my pregnancy.

I've also taken Prednisone during both my pregnancies & had very healthy babies.
My GI & Dr both recommend i take it during pregnancy.
