How long do newborns stay in newborn nappies for?

I am going to do cloth nappies, but will wait until I am in a routine and figured once out of newborn disposables will start on cloth (plus I am hearing about explosive newborn poos... how long does that last?) Is it like a month or 2? How many nappies will I need?

We got 2 boxes of Huggies newborn nappies and we have a couple left over. It really depends on how big your baby is. The newborn nappies go to around 4 kilos so if you have a bigger / smaller bub then your might need more / less. Maybe just buy one box and see how you go.

And yes, the explosive poos are not a myth!! Have you been told about PROJECTILE poos yet?? The poo can really fly long distances!

we went through 3 boxes of newborn nappies. DD was 3.65Kg when born. just keep your receipts to get a box refunded if you dont use it

Imran was in them for about a week. He could have gone straight into the larger size but the hospital gave us a pack of newborn size so we used them.

Orson has only now just gone out of the newborn ones at 3.5 months old. But he is still under 6kgs.

My DS was in newborn ones for a couple of months, but he was on the smaller side (3.035kg), so it took longer for him to need the next size up. I think we went through about the equivalent of 3 boxes.

i think that the idea of keeping the receipts is a good one.

our DD was in them for AGES. but she was born tiny at 2.7kgs (just under 6lbs). so maybe go with one big box and then if you need more you can buy them at the next shop after they arrive.

It's hard to say, you won't really know until your baby is born and a few weeks old. It varies!

My DD was 11 weeks by the time she grew out of the newborn huggies! She's only little though... lean thing!

DS was in them for about 3 weeks, DD only one week. DS was quite a big baby but fairly thin. DD was a much rounder baby and weighed 4.27kgs (9lb 6.5oz) when born.

The newborn really didn't fit her at all well but they didn't rub against her cord stump so I wedged her into them and as soon as the stump dropped off I moved her up to the next size. Plus we were using up leftover newborn nappies from DS and I wanted to use them up. We still have a box of leftovers!

But we haven't finished having babies yet so when Number 3 comes along maybe we'll finally use up these newborn nappies we've had lying around since 2006 lol.

How long they are in newborn disposables all depends on their birth weight in my opinion. DS was 2.9kg at birth and was in Huggies newborns for about two-three months from memory.

And I second the earlier post about projectile poos. The only time DS did it he was about two months old, and if I hadn't been standing in the way of it, it would've hit the wall 3 metres away .

We have only just stopped using them (coming up to 11 weeks) but DD was quite small (2.9kg). I think it definitely depends on their size.

Depends what you're getting. I get the newborn ALDI nappies and their quite big, DD is still in them and she's over 6kg!!

i think it definately depends on the one u gets coz my bub is already in infant nappies and he was only a week and a half old he was peeing through them oops

my ds was inthem forabout amonth i think... but i also found diff brands were better at diff stages.for dsbaby love was the best to start with...

We used one box, DD was 4.44kg at birth. I was determined to get through the whole box but won't be doing that again. I reckon it's better for the nappy to be slightly bigger for their weight
