so i went to the Dr about my cough and it turns out i have a minor case of bronchitis (excuse spelling) he has put me on categry A antibiotics and told me its completely safe to take them, especially when im this far along.
i have been taking them for a day.. im getting better slowly but this cough is driving me insane. its one of those dry itchy coughs, my throat feels too dry
i just really didnt want to take anything while i was pregnant but i guess i couldnt really help it. i cant work in this conditon and i need to be as healthy as i can, right?

    Hi Hon

I've just finished a course of Amoxil antibiotics for an ear infection. My GP assured me they are perfectly safe while pregnant. He also said the infection had to be treated with antibiotics as it wasn't going to fix itself on its own.

Trust your GP, they don't want to harm your unborn baby. I'm sure they're fine and category A is definitley ok - there is plenty of into on the net.

Hope you feel better soon x

    dont stress.
I have very similar case. Im on fairly strong antiiotics for a very sever flu i have (not swine, dont worry

And the doc has told me that antibiotics, any brand or strength are fine to take anytime during pregnncy, as they are simply helping your immune system to fight an infection. also whatever your immune system can handle, its actually strengthening the fetus' also.

dont be too worried, just get well, im sure bubby will be more than happy if your happy.

FTM - not all antibiotics are safe during pregnancy, certain antibiotics such as tetracylines should not be taken. However class A antibiotics are safe during pregnancy. I always double check with the pharmacist when taking medication while bf or pregnant.

stevie - If you are really concerned call your local pharmacist and ask them, but if your gp knows you are pregnant Im sure he would have prescribed a class a antibiotic. Hope you feel better soon!

    Hi Stevie,
Cat A drugs are fine in pregnancy. They are the safest to take. Cat A basically means - it has been taken by a large number of pregnant women over a large period of time, without any harmful effects or abnormalities detected.
Always check with your pharmacist if the drugs are safe as they have the up to date info - dr's sometimes forget to check!
