How do i make an icecream cake?

I'm a total cake novice, and usually buy ice cream cakes ready made... but want to make one for DS1 birthday.

Where do i even begin? what do i need? and is it possible to make it in the shape of a 3?

Oh and he wants it to be completely chocolate. I'd possibly like to have his name on the top.

The icecream cakes I've made in the past are pretty easy to make, although in the shape of a 3 may be a bit difficult. I use a springform tin, get whatever icecream you want to use and let it soften, once softened put it into the tin and then back in the freezer to set.

You can also mix things in with the icecream, one of my favourites is mixing crushed maltesers and raspberries through vanilla icecream, and then decorating the top with more maltesers.... yummo!

Any flavoured icecream and treats to mix together would be yummy though, maybe you could write his name on the top with lollies or chocolates like maltesers?
