Hi ladies.
I'm expecting my second child and want to use cloth nappies from the start. With DD I only started cloth when she was 15 months old and went straight to pocket nappies (mainly Green Kids).
After careful consideration, I decided to use flats and fitteds with gusseted covers in the initial explosive BF poo stage with the next bub. DD only did a poo every 6 days or so and we had the most unbelievable accidents. I'm hoping to avoid it this time by providing 2 barriers, the nappy and the cover.
I ahve bought some cheap cotton terry flats, some luscious bamboo terry flats and a few bamboo fitteds for out and about. Also some gusseted covers. Will add to this as I go along and find out what works for us.
Anyway, I have heard that bamboo cann be very drying on baby's skin and that you should use a liner. Does that apply to bamboo flats as well? And what about the fitteds? Can you reccommend liners that you like? Or should I just get some microsuede and cuut it into pieces?
Also, do you rinse off NB BF poo, or just throw it into the bucket and then the machine?
I've never heard of bamboo being drying on bub's skin? Microfibre is the only one that I have ever read that is a definite no no being used next to skin.
I've never had a problem (even from newborn age) with it drying out skin?
Arimeh, I can't remember where I read that. It might have been on nappycino. Not sure. Or maybe I'm getting things mixed up.
For a while I used bamboo fitteds (Baby Beehinds) on DD at night. But she always used to be very red in the mornings. Now I don't know whether it was just because she was being wettish all night, or because of the bamboo. But a cloth using friend of seemed to think it was because I used bamboo without a liner.
I might just try it without a liner on the new baby and see how he or she reacts.
It might have been because she had a wet fabric against her all night? Maybe.. I dunno.. LOL.. Miss M never got red from being in a BBB all night, but sometimes DS can wake up a bit red from being in a GK minky times if its been on about 14 hours - but it goes within a few hours - but that could be cos of the suedecloth - who knows! lol
Could be...
I never tried GK at night. Love them during the day, though. TBH, after the BBB didn't work out at night, I just went back to sposies for night time. I figure 1 sposie a day is better than 6. It also had one advantage. DD did her daily poos most often first thing in the morning. So I had most of them in a sposie. Lazy me... She has always had kinda sloppy, creamy poos that weren't all that easy to rinse off (and I do have a little squirt), add to that that I was pregnant and very sensitive to smells and you can see why I was glad when I didn't have to deal with the poos. I'll try and have the next one in cloth full time, though.
It's microfibre that is drying against the skin! The stuff that they sell as cleaning cloths.
Bamboo would feel wet which may cause irritation but in my experience it hasn't. You can use liners made from micro/polar fleece which is the same as most pocket nappy inners
