    how crap is this

    Hello everyone
Im having a big grumble today because Iv found out that our class selection for next semester is not until 3 weeks before classes start, and I will have to change my daughters childcare from the two days she has now to two whole new days, with only 3 weeks notice! Yeah right! it took me three months last time to find those two days. Plus I like her current childcare, but they have no vacancies on other days. I can't even start trying yet because I don't know which days.
Plus its a first in first served basis, so I could get classes on every day - even though Im just doing part-time.
My friend told me she was selecting one of the classes Im not doing this year and she was on there at 9:59am pressing refresh and it went from not available to full instantly for the classes she wanted.
I mean, I could get lucky. But I don't want to be stressing out about it until then.
    grumble,grumble,grumble

Contact you lecturers/coordinators (or even student services or career counsellor if no luck with the other) as soon as possible and tell them exactly what you told us. Sometimes they can reserve or hold class spots for you, especially in these situations.

    no, qut.
Is this your first year? what do you do? (with your kids I mean
Crazy system. Probably fine if you have no other responsibilities though. You must have to have super fast internet connection. Plus I've just realised Im going up to see my friend that week, so I will have to go on her computer. Hope she has fast connection At least I will have some team support for my mad clicking

    Thanks Leasha,
I contacted student services for that department, and their response was, "well im sure that there are many students with similar circumstances to yours, and we have to make it fair for everyone so there's nothing we can do". hmm thanks
which its true, it should be fair, but thats not really fair for anyone who has responsibilities outside of uni.
Anyway, I feel like a big winger, but Im stressing a bit about it.
I wrote to student equity services too.

oh yeah, I forgot about that. I did try it last semester though and didn't have any luck. I had to get my mum who works full time night shift to mind dd while I was at two classes. I feel so bad asking her. Anyway, worth a try again though. Thanks.

Another option is to just enroll in whichever class is free and then turn up to the one which suits you best. Not sure if it would work for your degree but with mine the auditoriums are huge and they don't take names so you can just turn up to whichever one suits.
There may be some classes you can't do it with, I have to attend the lab I'm enrolled in but other than that I can go any time.

I can work it so I only have to change one cc day! how great is that.
NAh Amber, they checked rolls at our tutes last semester, and there is only one lecture. Thanks though.

It is so crap. From the childcare perspective too - we have to try and accommodate students, and it is really really hard for us.
Remind your cc provider of Priority of Access - they can ask non-working parents to swap days with you if you're studying as you are higher priority than them.
